Phoebe's POV
Brittany snapped her fingers with satisfaction. "Bingo! You nailed it."
My expression turned stone cold instantly. "When did this hit the news?"
I clenched my teeth and twisted around, grabbing for my phone on the nightstand. The device had been set to silent, but notifications flooded the screen - missed calls and texts from both Brittany and Johnson.
Ajax had tried reaching me too. When I didn't answer, he'd sent a text with the morning's news summary instead.
"They released it early in the morning on purpose," Brittany explained.
I gave a sharp nod. "Understood. Where's Harold?"
"Your guy bolted the second this story dropped, and he dragged my man along with him," Brittany complained, wearing the wounded expression of someone who'd been abandoned.
I rubbed my exhausted eyes, deliberately ignoring the undertone in Brittany's comment. Switching to safer ground, I asked, "Johnson didn't go?"
