On the screen, the scene continued.
After Captain America destroyed one of the fighter jet's engines, it immediately lost its balance and swayed in the air.
Captain America seized the opportunity and slammed the motorcycle's brakes. The motorcycle instantly stopped, and Captain America was thrown off due to the immense inertia.
He took advantage of the momentum and leaped onto the fighter jet.
He pulled out the shield that was stuck in the fighter jet and, with a flick of his wrist, shot it out.
Clang! Clang!
The shield ricocheted off the fighter jet's two tailfins, instantly destroying them.
Captain America smoothly caught the shield as it bounced into the air and, with a graceful leap, jumped from the fighter jet to the ground.
The fighter jet, like a drunken man, wobbled and then crashed onto the bridge with a loud bang.
Thick smoke billowed, and it was smashed beyond recognition.
A Quinjet fighter was taken down by a single shield in just a few minutes.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, Nick Fury would never have believed such a thing.
At this point, the camera cut back.
Back in the command center.
"Attention, everyone! Drop everything you're doing; this is a Level One alert!"
"Contact the Department of Transportation and turn all traffic lights in this area red!"
"Close all runways at Washington Airport, Dulles Airport, and Reagan International Airport!"
"Transfer all surveillance footage to this screen."
...The bald commander began a series of arrangements to capture Captain America.
"With all due respect, if S.H.I.E.L.D. orders Captain America's arrest, we have a right to know why!" a female agent suddenly interjected.
"Because he lied to us!"
Pierce's figure appeared. "Captain Rogers has information about Nick Fury's death, but he refuses to provide it."
"Although it's hard to accept, Captain America is now a fugitive of S.H.I.E.L.D."
The scene ended there.
"If these are truly events that will happen in the future, then Nick Fury's death is definitely not that simple."
After a brief silence, Captain America was the first to speak in a deep voice.
"That's obvious," Nick Fury nodded in agreement. "This whole thing reeks of conspiracy."
"How exactly I died remains unknown, and what crucial information I told you before my death is also unknown."
"But I told you not to trust anyone!"
The scene was slightly quiet. Nick Fury's earnest instruction to Captain America could reveal some very important information.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. must have been involved in that assassination attempt against you," Captain America interjected, his expression grave.
This was indeed obvious.
From the previous footage, it was clear that Captain America was already a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but Nick Fury told him not to trust anyone. It was clear who he was guarding against.
Nick Fury was silent for a moment, but his face was incredibly grim.
He had thought that after years of managing, he had the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. under his control, but now it seemed that was not the case at all.
As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he would actually die at the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future!
How ironic and ridiculous.
"Nick Fury, don't you have anything to say?" Iron Man asked, seeing Nick Fury fall silent.
"The information provided by the footage is insufficient for a more precise analysis. Besides confirming S.H.I.E.L.D.'s involvement, we cannot draw any other definite conclusions."
"It's possible that a certain agent leaked crucial intelligence to my enemies, or perhaps an agent provided me with false information, leading me into an ambush."
"Even more, a high-ranking official with real power within S.H.I.E.L.D. meticulously planned my assassination... and so on and so forth."
"We don't know which situation it is."
"The only thing we know is that someone in S.H.I.E.L.D. wants me dead, that's all."
Nick Fury had climbed his way up to the position of S.H.I.E.L.D. director, and during that time, he had made countless enemies, both openly and secretly.
Even those who weren't his enemies, many coveted Nick Fury's position.
In a vast intelligence agency, with all the power struggles and conflicts of interest... there were simply too many people who wanted Nick Fury dead.
Nick Fury's conclusion that someone wanted him dead was almost meaningless.
"What about that Alexander Pierce?"
Captain America asked in a deep voice, "Do you think he's problematic?"
"Looking at Pierce's series of actions, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong," Nick Fury mused, speaking to Captain America.
Although Pierce's methods were somewhat forceful and he looked like a villain in a movie, everything he did was in accordance with procedures from beginning to end.
His presumption of Nick Fury's guilt was not without basis, but based on solid evidence, including the arrest of Captain America, which also followed procedures.
Nick Fury inwardly thought that even if he were in Pierce's position, he would have done the same thing.
"I'm guessing there's a 'but' coming next, isn't there?" Iron Man couldn't help but interject, seeing Nick Fury's expression.
"But!"
Indeed, there was a 'but'.
"Pierce is a bit too efficient," Nick Fury continued, finally expressing his thoughts. "I was killed 'last night,' and according to emergency protocols, Pierce would temporarily take over S.H.I.E.L.D., which is fine."
"But Pierce found so much evidence in just one day!"
"Even if I were to do it, I wouldn't be confident in doing it that well."
Initially, Captain America and Iron Man hadn't thought much of it, but after Nick Fury said it, they also felt that something was indeed a bit off.
As a secretary who didn't interfere with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s operations, after suddenly taking over the director's job, didn't he need time to familiarize himself and adapt?
Didn't he need various handovers?
He just jumped right in and was already comparable to the original director?
"Could it be... that Pierce received false intelligence prepared by someone else? Is that why he succeeded so easily?" Captain America pondered for a moment and proposed a possibility.
"I know Pierce; he's not that incompetent," Nick Fury shook his head.
Pierce was the previous director of S.H.I.E.L.D.; his abilities were very strong. How could he be so easily deceived by false intelligence?
"Then there's only one possibility left."
As Captain America said this, his expression also became somewhat serious, because what he was about to say next would be a very serious matter.
"Pierce is the kind of person I mentioned earlier. All of this was orchestrated by Pierce, and all that evidence was prepared in advance!"
