Helena's POV
I wake up before dawn breaks across the sky. If I really am some ancient wolf, I refuse to depend on others for protection. The time has come for me to learn how to defend myself. My father served as Delta of the largest pack in the country, and even though he wasn't my biological father, I know I have the strength to match his legacy.
I slide out of Asher's room carefully, stepping over his snoring figure sprawled in front of the door. Moving through the hallway on silent feet, I head toward my bedroom. The door makes a loud creak as it opens, and I wince at the noise. I navigate through the darkness, gathering my workout clothes and sneakers.
"Are the lights not working, Little Zoey?"
Victor's voice startles me so badly that I stumble backward into the wall. My hands scramble for the light switch, and when I finally locate it, I flip it on too fast. The sudden brightness blinds me, and I lurch forward, nearly losing my balance.
