Wendy's POV
The space between us shrinks until only our mingled breaths exist. Everything beyond this small cabin fades away, leaving just Javier and me in this suspended moment.
His thumb brushes along my jawline, sending electricity through every nerve. "Tell me to stop," he whispers against my skin. "One word, and I'll walk away."
The words won't come. I don't want them to.
My breath catches as his scent envelops me completely. The mate bond awakens beneath my skin, urging me to finish what we started in those forgotten lifetimes.
I eliminate the final inch between us, pressing my mouth to his.
The contact starts tentatively, as though we both fear what we might unleash. Then something shatters inside me. The bond ignites, and gentleness abandons us entirely.
His arms draw me against him. My fingers twist into his shirt, pulling him down until no space remains. His palm travels along my throat, across my shoulder, blazing a trail wherever he touches.
