[Go to the set?!] Lily's eyes widened in horror.
"Jacob, why are you so mean?!" she burst out, abandoning the table and crossing her arms defensively. "Can't you just help me out here? Give me some time to prepare? Maybe a few weeks?"
"Help you?" Jacob raised an eyebrow. "Who else can handle my parents besides you? You're their daughter-in-law. It's your responsibility."
The question directly silenced Lily.
[He's... not wrong. Technically. But still!]
Jacob's expression softened almost imperceptibly.
"Don't worry," he said more gently. "My parents won't dare to do anything to you. At least not in front of Grandmother. With her present, you'll be completely safe."
[With Grandmother there, no one in the Cross family would dare to give Lily a hard time. Grandmother would explode on the spot. It's terrifying even to think about her wrath.]
Lily hung her head, still feeling deeply uneasy.
