Chapter 50: The Wind Rises in the Nine Heavens!
Deep night in the Nine Heavens Holy Land.
The moon was bright and the stars were sparse. Looking down from high above, all that met the eye were towering peaks as bright as daylight.
In the twelve outermost directions of the Nine Heavens Holy Land stood twelve Elder Holy Peaks, like heavenly guards protecting the holy land.
On each Holy Peak resided a member of the Nine Heavens Holy Land's Elder Council.
The reason the Nine Heavens Holy Land was such a sacred place was that these twelve council members guarded its perimeter. This prevented external demons and monsters from daring to target the holy land, leaving them only able to deal with the human cities within the holy land's territory.
From this, one could see how important these twelve Supreme Elders were.
This also showed why Gongsun Chi was so surprised when he learned that one of the twelve council members was a demon spy.
The easternmost Elder Peak was the great mountain controlled by Wang Song.
Among the twelve council members, Wang Song ranked seventh. His cultivation was at the eighth level of the Dao Integration Realm, only a single step away from the ninth level.
In the past, Elder Wang Song had once slain three powerful demon race experts at the Dao Integration Realm. His innate talent spiritual root was of the metal attribute, and his attacks were the most formidable aside from sword cultivators.
Paired with his natal magical treasure, the Heavenly Gold Demon-Slaying Saber, his power was extraordinary. He had quite a few followers among the disciples of the Nine Heavens Holy Land.
On Wang Song's Peak.
At the lofty and towering summit stood a unique courtyard. The buildings were not as luxurious as magnificent palaces, but simply a courtyard with a corridor.
There was a wooden pavilion, and within the not-so-large courtyard, a lotus pond of less than half an acre had even been excavated. In the pond water, a few spiritual creatures were being raised.
On one side of the pavilion, a white-haired old man with a stern face, dressed in a neat black robe, was sitting at the pavilion's table and chairs, playing chess against himself.
Just then.
Wang Song, who was about to place a chess piece, put it back instead. He stood up and walked out of the pavilion, looking toward the northern sky.
Swish!
Within his line of sight.
A green light suddenly appeared, arriving in his courtyard in an instant.
From within the green light emerged a thin, dark-skinned old man wearing brown light armor. It was Li Li, who ranked fifth among the twelve council members.
Among the twelve council members, Li Li and Wang Song had the best relationship.
"Old Li, weren't you refining your magical treasure? What brings you here!"
Wang Song asked with a chuckle.
"I'll come and go as I please. You come with me. I have something to tell you!"
Li Li sized up Wang Song and said, somewhat agitated.
"You old coot, did you eat gunpowder or something?"
Wang Song found Li Li's change rather strange.
Both of them sat down.
"Wang Song, you and I have been guarding the Nine Heavens Holy Land for a thousand years. We have the best relationship, and we've both saved each other's lives. We've struggled through mountains of corpses and seas of blood to get to where we are today, and I trust your judgment very much. I have a supreme treasure here, and I'd like you to help me appraise it!"
Li Li said earnestly.
"Hmm? A supreme treasure?"
"You want me to appraise it? Old Li, you're a master artifact refiner capable of forging fifth-grade magical treasures. Isn't this your area of expertise?"
Wang Song said, a flash of gravity in his eyes.
Li Li's strange actions, for some reason, made his chest feel a bit tight.
"This supreme treasure of mine is no ordinary matter. I also want to broaden your horizons!"
Li Li said.
"Hahaha, since you think so highly of it, Old Li, I'd like to see for myself just how extraordinary this supreme treasure is!"
Wang Song said with a chuckle.
