Chapter 1 - Awakening

Jason moved before he could think. The screams of people, heroes and the fire filled his ears.

'What the hell am I doing?!'

His breaths were ragged as he saw a blur of green next to him> A boy the same age as him with tears in his eyes and trembling.

But.

But his eyes held a frantic determination Jason was sure was on his own face.

'So were both idiots'

They both raced towards the sludge villain that held a spiky blond hair boy who was struggling to breath and let off blasts of explosions. Feeling his breathing hitch he pumped his arms faster and took a deep breath. And he let his quirk surge. Everything seemed to slow down to a snails crawl as Jason felt he was moving through tar. His quirk Bullet Time allowed him to slow down the time around him to a crawl. But that included him as well, the things and people trapped in his rang of fifty feet could comprehend everything around them in that state as well. He had once thought that he could be a hero with it, that was until he realized he couldn't do much with only slowing time, his peers let him know it as well. Years of being known as the kid with a useless quirk was all he knew.

It ate at himself as everyday he would watch as people seemed to already know what he would grow up to be. It pulled at his lungs as they tightened farther than they should in a situation like this. He saw off to the side the green haired boy with freckles had begun to launch his backpack at the villain. Jason could see that the pencils and pens, even a notebook with the words,

"Hero analysis for the future. #13"

Time seemed to freeze farther than his quirk did. This guy, he wanted to be a hero to. He looked into those eyes and he saw something familiar. A pain, a pain that ate at himself, a face that had false smiles because they were a form of protection. Jason knew that look to well. And they were both going to die if they didn't do something soon.

Jason turned back at a snails crawl and looked at the malice coming off the sludge villain. The rotting smell of its slime like body threatened to suffocate him.

'Damnit!'

Jason screamed in his mind as he raced to think of something to do.

'Think damnit! Think!'

He wasn't going to let that boy trapped in the villain die, he couldn't!

The boys eyes turned and they met his, deep red eyes full of fear and desperation.

'MOVE!'

Jason lurched forward moving through his quirk like he had never done before, but he wasn't thinking. He was acting.

Stepping forward he grabbed a fist full of the boys shirt and turn yanking with all his strength as a pressure built up in his eyes and nose.

'Quirk drawback'

He thought numbly as time resumed and the villain roared in pain as pens stabbed into one of his eyes.

The sound of the fires and people screaming assaulted his ears as Jason struggled to get up.

"AGGUH! You damn brat! Ill squash your like a paper cup!" The villain screamed and Jason snapped his head up to see as the green haired boy seemed frozen.

Despite the pain in his eyes and nose, including the warm trickle pod something that came from his nose he activated his quirk again. Time crawled to a snails pace again as the green kids eyes widened in horror as an arm of sludge was feet from his face threatening to crush him.

'Move! Move faster! A hero will not stop until everybody is safe.'

Jason forced himself to drag the still stunned blonde boy as he lunged forward shoving the green kid to the ground just as time sped up.

Jason coughed as blood splattered the ground as a migraine began to form. He panted into the ground and more shouting started.

"You shitty Deku! You quirkiness Dumbass! What was your plan!"

The blond boy was yelling from Jason right.

"Kachann! I-I I don't know! I just moved!"

'He just moved to huh? Idiots unite'

"Who are you idiots talking to! I'll break your spines for ignoring me!"

The sludge villain roared and all three of there heads snapped back to see a double fist rocketing towards them. Jason desperately started to try his quirk again but more blood rushed up his throat and he didn't have time to cough. Only enough time to realize that he had failed.

WOOSH!

A sudden gust of wind swept over the boys and there hair flew wildly. They all gasped and heard the cheers from the crowd in the distance behind them and they all looked upward and smiled.

"FEAR NOT! WHY? FOR I AM HERE"

All might, the symbol of peace. Relief flooded through Jason as he slumped back.

They were going to be alright.

"I am sorry my boy, you have shown me what it means to be a true hero, I nearly failed to save an innocent because of my hubris."

All might whispered to the green haired boy who looked shocked, amazed and possibly on religious enlightenment.

"NOW! I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT IT MEANS TO GO! PLUS ULTERA!"

"Wait All Might! Let's be rational!"

The sludge villain suddenly seemed a lot smaller and not as scary in the presence of such a hero.

"DETROIT SMASH!!"

The punch itself was perfect, Jason watched each twitch of muscle and the twist of his hips. He had never seen such a perfect punch.

And the villain simply disappeared, a whole blasted through the street as fires went out and the clouds parted.

Then silence

Jason gaped.

'A hero, this is what it means to be a hero.'

He thought as he wiped blood from his mouth as feeling of hope and determination blossomed inside himself and he grinned through the blood.

Plop.

A single raindrop that landed on Jasons nose slowly began to turn into a down pour and a noticed a notebook near his side that he picked up.

It was the same one that green kid had in his back pack. He tucked it into his waist band under his hoodie as the rain began to fall and All Might jumped off with a hearty laugh.

Jason just looked up in awe at the retreating form. He noticed that the green kid was doing the same tears in his eyes.

A hero, not just "A hero" The hero. It was like a legend come true.

And it only made a fire burn brighter in Jason.
