She stepped out of the room, and Soyeon heard her voice in the hallway. "Auntie, Uncle, the doctor wants to speak with you about Soyeon's treatment plan, it's urgent."
The moment she heard footsteps moving away, Soyeon ripped out her IV.
Pain exploded through her arm, but she gritted her teeth and swung her legs off the bed. Her shoulder screamed in protest. Her ribs ached with every breath. But she forced herself upright.
The blood-stained robes hung awkwardly on her body. She probably looked like an escaped mental patient, but she didn't care.
She stumbled to the door, peeked out. The hallway was clear. Her parents and Jiwoo had drawn the doctor into a consultation room at the far end.
Soyeon ran.
"Hey!" A nurse shouted behind her. "Miss! You can't leave! You need to—"
But Soyeon was already at the stairs, taking them two at a time despite the agony in her body. Behind her, she heard chaos erupting. Shouts. Her mother's voice calling her name.
