"Make my brother happy." His hand lifted again, but this time it didn't reach for her. It just hovered in the air between them before falling back to the table. "He will do everything in his power to ensure your happiness. He is capable of that kindness. Of that.…..warmth." His voice dropped to barely a whisper. "I cannot give you anything."
Soyeon felt her heart crack. "You can't—you don't get to—"
"I am tired," he said, turning his face away again. "Please leave."
The dismissal was absolute.
Soyeon stood there, her hands clenched into fists, her entire body shaking with fury and hurt.
How could he? she questioned herself. How could he do this? Fight so hard to save me and then just.….give up?
She wanted to scream. Wanted to shake him. Wanted to demand he stop being such an emotionally constipated fool and just TALK to her like a normal human being.
Instead, she spun on her heel and marched toward the door, her footsteps echoing in the quiet hall.
