The morning sun over the Jade Phoenix Palace was a cruel mockery, far too bright and spring-like for the darkness Yifeng felt in his chest. He hadn't slept. When Su Yan hadn't returned from her "walk" the night before, his worry had been a low hum, now, it was a roar. His grandmother had claimed she was just exhausted, and needed rest.
But….
How come she didn't return to the Jade Phoenix Palace?
"His Highness, the Second Prince, has not been seen since last night either," his eunuch whispered, trembling.
Yifeng's jaw tightened. Liang Jian. His brother was a shadow, a ghost of the battlefield, but Su Yan was light. The two didn't mix. He moved around, searching for her desparately.
He moved around, asking questions. Then a thought flashed in his mind…..his brother's palace.
Hmm….
Without hesitation, he strode toward it, ignoring the many greetings that were extended to him. His very presence was breaking protocol, but he couldn't care less. He needed to know where she was.
