Chapter 20 - The Unbreakable Prophecy (Revised)

After summarizing and observing, Lumine and Paimon arrived at an answer.

Neuvillette: "Please, share your thoughts."

Lumine: "The people of Fontaine are not truly human. All Fontainians were created by the former Hydro Archon from Oceanids."

"Only Fontainians can dissolve in Primordial Seawater, and those who dissolve become Oceanids again. Navia once mentioned that during the trial in her consciousness when she was about to dissolve, everyone had turned into Oceanids."

"From this perspective, the Hydro Archon's sin is the very act of creating the people of Fontaine. This act—creating humans without authorization—angered Celestia. The guilty verdict the Oratrice delivered against the Hydro Archon... perhaps it refers to the sin that the Hydro Archon has borne for creating the Fontainians."

[Venti: How incredible! She actually created humans! That's the former Hydro Archon, Egeria, for you.]

[Zhongli: Water is intrinsically linked to the authority of life. Vision holders of Hydro often possess healing abilities. That is likely how she managed to circumvent the rules to create humans.]

[Nahida: Seen this way, the prophecy is a curse from the Heavenly Principles. Fortunately, those dissolved by the water did not truly die. They lost the right to be human and reverted to the state of Oceanids.]

[Navia: Silver... Melus...]

[Neuvillette: The Hydro Archon bore the sin, and yet the people of Fontaine stand here passing judgment upon her.]

[Lyney: So none of us were ever human to begin with... That's why we dissolve.]

[The Knave: This is truly momentous news.]

Navia: "So the Hydro Archon's true sin... was creating us?"

Lyney: "We're not real humans?"

Lynette: "I feel like we just heard something utterly staggering."

Neuvillette: "And yet, in this very Opera House today, the people of Fontaine have sought to put the Hydro Archon on trial. History, as it happens, is always the greatest playwright."

Lumine: "But I still feel that the order of the third and fourth tablets may have been reversed."

"The image on the third tablet looks a lot like Navia falling into the sea. It should represent what happens after the fourth tablet—the Hydro Archon also sinking into the sea."

"In the end, everyone dissolves into the sea, and only the Hydro Archon remains, weeping alone upon her throne. It is then that the sin of the Fontainians will finally be washed away."

Neuvillette praised: "A rather impressive ability to reason. Given the information currently at hand, this level of conjecture is quite remarkable."

"However, these tablets contain more than just images. Through some form of energy, hidden messages were inscribed within them. Back in the ruins, I attempted to read the information concealed in the tablets, but with one missing, only part of the message could be interpreted."

"Now that all the tablets have been gathered, I shall attempt to read them once more. If all goes well, the truth shall soon be unveiled."

With that, Neuvillette used Hydro elemental power to read the hidden information within the tablets—and arrived at a shocking answer.

[Neuvillette: Water not only contains life, but also emotion and knowledge.]

[Ningguang: I feel that Lumine's interpretation is not quite correct. The sequence of the third image should be correct as is. The final image shows the Hydro Archon collapsed upon her throne. At that moment, there should be no more humans left in Fontaine—everyone should have already dissolved. Since the third image still shows people, it cannot be the final scene.]

[Paimon: Lady Ningguang is so amazing! Her analysis makes perfect sense.]

[Ningguang: I have been doing business since I was a child. To have built my present empire step by step, the ability to accurately analyze information is of utmost importance.]

[Zhongli: That child Ningguang is indeed very meticulous.]

[Hu Tao: What, am I not meticulous?]

[Keqing: I think the word to describe you would be "lively."]

In the video.

Paimon eagerly asked, "What does it say?"

Neuvillette: "I believe that I should not only share this information with you but also that the citizens of Fontaine also have the right to know everything. Allow me to explain."

"Concerning the origins of the Fontainians and the Hydro Archon's sin."

"Lumine's deductions are entirely correct."

"In the earliest days of Fontaine, the former Hydro Archon sensed the desire of her familiars—the Oceanids—to live upon the land."

"The Oceanids of the sea envied humanity. The beauty and wonder of humans captivated them, and taking on human form became the Oceanids' wish."

"However, although water and life are deeply intertwined, as one of The Seven Archons, the Hydro Archon did not possess the authority to create humans."

"Nevertheless, she devised a method. By siphoning the power of the Primordial Sea, she transformed Oceanids into human form."

"Using their blood vessels to encase the Primordial Seawater within their bodies, she created mimetic humans..."

"And when a Fontainian comes into contact with Primordial Seawater once more, the power within them breaks free and returns to the Primordial Sea. The physical manifestation of this is the body dissolving, reverting back into an Oceanid."

"But the Hydro Archon's creation of humans did not receive the sanction of the Heavenly Principles."

"As a result, the people of Fontaine have always borne the original sin of having stolen the power of the Primordial Sea."

"This is the origin of the people of Fontaine."

The audience was dazed by these words.

"I'm a human... made from an Oceanid?"

"That's a bit too much information for me. I've decided to forget everything the Chief Justice just said..."

[Paimon: Hahahaha, that person is hilarious!]

[Ningguang: Neuvillette's words are indeed difficult for ordinary people to accept.]

[Keqing: I was just thinking—if someone told me one day that I wasn't actually human, I'd be just as shocked.]

[Hu Tao: Just like how surprised you were when you found out Zhongli was actually the Geo Archon, right!]

[Keqing: Ah... Yes. That's exactly right.]

[Lyney: As a Vision holder, hearing those words gave me a similar feeling.]

"In that case, how can we allow the Hydro Archon to be sentenced to death?! It was the Hydro Archon who created us!"

Paimon: "This information... it's just too much for the people of Fontaine to process all at once. But at least it answers a lot of questions."

But what Neuvillette said next was even more shocking!

"Lumine, your interpretation of the third tablet is, in fact, incorrect. Its order is not reversed."

"Look closely. The humans in the water in this tablet image are all in normal human form, not as Oceanids."

"They have not dissolved. That means the water in the image is not Primordial Seawater."

"This is the Nation of Justice and Judgment—Fontaine. It is also the Nation of Water. The water in this image signifies justice and judgment."

"Consider Navia's experience. When she fell into the seawater, her consciousness was surrounded by people, and she underwent a trial."

"So, the true meaning of the third tablet is that the people will hold a trial for the Hydro Archon in the courtroom!"

"That's right—it is the very scene unfolding before us now."

Like a stone cast into a pond, Neuvillette's words sent shockwaves through every heart.
