Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Care

Rowan looked at Owen covered in injuries, feeling more uncomfortable the more he applied the medicine.

Just as he managed to stop the bleeding on the arm, he discovered old wounds that were slightly infected, along with quite a few frostbites.

The wounds on both legs were even more gruesome; even Rowan, who had witnessed tragic scenes on the battlefield, couldn't help but grimace. He didn't know how Owen acted like nothing was wrong, enduring it so well.

There were no healing pods here; he didn't know how Owen had survived.

The medicine Asa gave the Omegina was surely the best, but Owen's wounds were too numerous, and some spots were quite serious, so the medicine ran out quickly.

Rowan intended to go out and find Yanan to borrow some healing medicine: "You stay here and rest, I'm going out for a bit."

How could Owen let the Omegina he had found with such difficulty leave him for even half a step? He reached out and grabbed Rowan tightly.

"I'm fine, don't worry. It just looks scary, but it doesn't damage the body. It will heal slowly." Owen didn't mind these wounds; for a beastman, as long as it wasn't life-threatening or damaging to internal organs, it counted as nothing.

In the beast world, the self-healing ability of beastmen ranked first, otherwise, how could they survive in such a dangerous world?

"Okay, don't move around indiscriminately, just lie down and rest." Rowan was afraid his agitation would tear the wounds, so he had to stay for now.

Owen then let go and obediently lay down.

Seeing him resting, Rowan found a few pieces of meat to put in the stone pot to cook. Although Owen didn't say anything, looking at his visibly thinner frame, Rowan knew he had suffered a lot.

For the first time, Owen enjoyed a meal cooked by the Omegina for him; the feeling soothed the suffering he had endured in the past days.

The hardest part wasn't the injuries, but the torment in his heart from losing the Omegina, living in anxiety all day.

Now that the bitterness had ended and the sweetness began, it was all worth it.

After eating, Owen couldn't help but fall asleep, sensing the Omegina's breath and sinking into a deep sleep.

Rowan looked at Owen's sleeping form and couldn't help but sigh, his heart a tangled mess.

While sleeping, Owen suddenly fell into a nightmare about the time he lost the Omegina.

That day, Owen braved the heavy snow to search for the Omegina, but in a vast expanse of white, it was very easy to lose direction.

In addition, his body hadn't fully recovered; the wound on his tail tore open when he was controlling his flight direction.

But Owen couldn't care about that; the Omegina had been gone for several days, his heart was a mess.

However, the Snow Season was truly hard to endure for cold-blooded animals like them; they basically had no fur to keep warm.

Flying for not long, Owen felt his whole body freezing, his tail becoming stiff and hard to move.

He tried to persist, flying towards the Snow Leopard tribe that Leo once said was just a few mountains away.

When he crossed a certain mountain, due to the cold making his mind groggy, he lost control and crashed into a deep canyon. He was unconscious there for half a day before having the strength to crawl out; the fall made his injuries even worse.

These days on the road, Owen had never slept a good sleep; eating and drinking were also hasty, just enough to fill the stomach.

The exhaustion was too great, so his whole body became much thinner and haggard.

When he finally found the Omegina with great difficulty, it was just in time to see him surrounding prey with the beastmen of the Snow Leopard tribe.

The moment he saw the Omegina, his heart felt like it was put back in place; these days were finally over.

While he was observing for an opportunity to take the Omegina away, he suddenly saw a crazed beast ambush the Omegina, rushing to bite into the Omegina's neck.

In a flash, the white snow was dyed bright red, speckled like plum blossoms.

Owen only felt his ears ringing, his chest hurting as if torn apart; it seemed time also stopped in that moment.

Owen startled awake from the nightmare, hurriedly looking for the Omegina's figure. He looked around but didn't see him anywhere, his heart empty.

He hurriedly threw off the beast skin blanket and ran out of the cave.

Just pushing the cave door open, Rowan crashed into Owen's embrace, his nose hurting from the impact: "What's the rush? You're not allowed to go out now..."

The feeling of regaining what was lost made Owen hug the Omegina tightly; he almost thought what he experienced was just an illusion, luckily Rowan was still here.

Rowan felt the beastman's violently beating heart, fluttering with insecurity as if terrified.

"What's wrong?" Rowan didn't dare push him away hard, afraid of touching the wounds that had just stopped bleeding.

Owen calmed down for a while, feeling the Omegina's warmth before his heart felt settled again.

"Nothing, I couldn't find you just now. Where did you go?" Owen slowly let go of the Omegina and asked.

Rowan gave the healing medicine borrowed from Yanan to Owen: "I saw you sleeping soundly so I went out to borrow some medicine for you. Did you just have a nightmare?" He realized Owen's emotions were a bit unstable.

"It's fine, I thought you left." Owen accepted it, seeing there was quite a lot of medicine, he hesitated and asked: "Is this from that beastman?"

"Which beastman?"

Rowan understood: "It's not Leo's, I borrowed it from Yanan, an Omegina I just met."

Rowan didn't want to go find Asa or Leo to borrow now; it would surely cause suspicion. Only Yanan could be dealt with.

Why did he feel Owen's question was a bit jealous? Perhaps it was just his hallucination. He rubbed his shoulder that was sore from the hug.

He pushed Owen inside: "Don't go out randomly now, people from the Snow Leopard tribe are everywhere here, pay a little attention."

Owen also understood the current situation: "Okay, then remember to tell me a word when you go out in the future."

Rowan couldn't stand his clingy behavior; two grown men hugging each other and he even demanded reports. If it weren't for the fact that he was injured, Rowan would have given him a beating.

He turned and walked past Owen without paying attention, stepping quickly into the cave.

Owen had to follow behind.

Owen wanted to take the initiative to cook, but was chased away by the Omegina to rest.

Seeing Rowan busy alone, Owen couldn't sit still and lent a hand.

Rowan didn't stop him anymore, knowing he wouldn't sit still, so he let him supervise the seasoning. Regarding cooking, Rowan was indeed not as good as Owen.

Rowan couldn't spot the secret; clearly, he used the exact same spices, but the taste was completely different from when Owen made it. It seemed some things really depended on talent.

Having not eaten the familiar flavor for a long time, Rowan ate very appetizingly today, feeling extremely satisfied.

Owen was also very pleased; the joy of continuing to care for the Omegina made him feel the wounds on his body didn't hurt anymore.

After eating, it was time to allocate the stone bed; unfortunately, this time there were no extra beast skins for Owen to spread on the ground.

Rowan didn't mind sleeping with Owen, even though he had never had experience sleeping in the same bed with anyone; the only time was the first night he arrived here.

But now, it seemed something had changed.

Although Owen still viewed him as an Omegina, he didn't have any actions crossing the line.

At least until now, Rowan still felt their way of being together was like close friends, so he didn't mind.

"Don't space out there anymore, go rest first." Rowan told Owen to sleep on the inner side of the stone bed.

Owen looked at the only stone bed in the cave, his heart hesitating and undecided.

The atmosphere in the cave suddenly stagnated, an indescribable awkwardness creeping into both their hearts.
