Chapter 70 – Toward the Fight

As we marched toward Arlong Park, the air grew heavier with tension. Before we could reach the entrance, two Fishmen blocked our path.

"Oh? Looks like some fresh humans have wandered in," sneered one of them. He had light blue skin, long black hair, glossy red lips, and a pink fin protruding from the back of his head. A bluish-purple shirt clung to his muscular frame, paired with short pants that barely reached his knees. "Come to be enslaved by the superior Fishman race?"

"Hehe… seems like easy money," said the second Fishman. I remembered that his name was Kaneshiro in the manga.

His skin was pale pink, with two large blue fins jutting out from the sides of his head. He was wearing an open orange shirt that was exposing his chest and loose white pants.

I gently released Kaya's hand and stepped forward, Kuina following closely behind me.

"Just the Fishmen I was looking for," I said calmly. Then I glanced back at Kaya. "You'll handle them. This is your training. Don't worry—I'll step in if anything goes wrong."

Kaneshiro laughed in anger as he was clearly offended. His eyes flashed with killing intent.

"Cocky human. Die!"

He lunged forward while he raised his sword high. He was aiming straight for me with the intent to kill me.

Before the blade could reach me, Kaya moved. She grabbed a nearby sword and blocked the attack cleanly.

"How dare you attack my captain!" she shouted, her voice trembling with anger. "I may be a doctor, but I'll still kick your ass!"

The Fishman snarled. "Bitch! You're nothing but a filthy human. I'll kill you!"

He was enraged. He began to swing his arms wildly, striking heavily and quickly.

Kaya stood her ground, blocking every blow with surprising ease. Then she counterattacked, slashing across his chest.

Slash!!

"Why, you—!" The Fishman staggered back, blood trickling as rage burned in his eyes. He swung again, aiming straight for her face.

Before the strike could land, Kaya stepped forward and blocked it effortlessly.

She then took a step back and gathered her waist strength. She then swung her sword with full force.

Bang!!

The Fishman was sent flying. He then crashed into a tree with a loud thud. He slumped to the ground, unconscious from the impact.

"Hehe… looks like I'm a great teacher," Kuina said with a satisfied smile. "She managed to defeat a Fishman after only a few days of sword training."

Indeed, Kuina had taught Kaya proper swordsmanship, but her victory was largely due to the enhanced strength and agility portions I had given her. Even so, seeing her stand tall and confident was impressive. Normally, an adult Fishman could easily overpower a human, especially someone with little combat experience.

Nearby, Nami had already defeated the other Fishman with ease. She was already a capable fighter, and after taking the potion, her strength had increased dramatically. It was no surprise she overwhelmed an ordinary Fishman so quickly.

"Hey, Alex!" Lily shouted impatiently. "When's my turn? I'm done waiting—I'm going to kick Arlong's ass myself!"

Without waiting for a response, she took off toward Arlong Park.

It was both expected and unexpected. Hoping Lily would stay disciplined and follow the plan was nothing more than wishful thinking, so I wasn't surprised at all.

"Alright, girls," I said with a sigh. "Let's move. We'd better hurry before Lily kills everyone."

We all headed toward Arlong Park and arrived around the same time, despite Lily running ahead. Somehow, she had managed to take a wrong turn on a straight road.

Nami and Nojiko stayed behind briefly to inform the villagers, then quickly caught up with us.

"Should we knock?" Kaya asked hesitantly.

Kuina answered by swinging her sword. The massive gate shattered and collapsed instantly.

"That works."

"Perfect," I replied.

Arlong Park stood before us. It was a massive, multi-story structure designed like a giant fish. A large pool surrounded the building, connected directly to the ocean. Arlong and his crew were lounging inside and enjoying themselves.

Arlong rose from his chair the moment he saw the destroyed gate.

"Who dares disturb my peace?"

A confident voice echoed through the park.

"I'm Lily," she declared boldly. "The future Pirate Queen. And I'm here to kick your ass for making Nami cry."

"Shahahahaha! A weak, pathetic human like you?"

Arlong burst into laughter, and his sharp teeth were glinting dangerously.

"Nami… You've brought some interesting friends. I think I'll turn all of them into my slaves. Shahahahaha!"

Lily had clearly reached her limit. Her patience snapped, and without hesitation, she charged straight at Arlong.

"Gomu Gomu no… Punch!!"

Her fist slammed into Arlong's gut with tremendous force, sending his massive body flying straight into the main building. The walls cracked as he smashed through them.

Lily didn't stop. She followed immediately, disappearing into the wreckage after him.

"Kuhahahahaha!" laughed a Fishman dressed like a martial artist, wearing a dark blue gi with a black belt.

"Very weak, chu," sneered another Fishman in a striped blue vest, dark-brown leather pants, and sandals.

"Hmmm," muttered an octopus-like Fishman, his many arms twitching.

"Let's take them down."

A Fishman wearing a purple short-sleeved shirt decorated with pink stars and a puffed collar around his neck said as if he was not worried about Arlong. There was a confidence in their voice, as the punch Arlong just received was not anything serious to him.

"There are only four of us but many fishmen," Kuina said calmly. "We'll take them one on one. Fight whoever you want."

"There are still some scary Fishmen," Kaya added quietly, her grip tightening on the handle of the sword.

"Doesn't matter," Kuina replied firmly. "We've trained for this. Let's show our power and finish this quickly."

Without further hesitation, Kuina, Kaya, and Nami moved forward to fight.

I stayed back and watched carefully. It wasn't that I couldn't help—I chose not to. They needed real combat experience. I wouldn't always be there to protect them, and this battle would prepare them for what lay ahead.

At the same time, my Observation Haki was fully active. The moment any of them was in danger, I would step in.

Kuina charged straight toward Hachi, recognizing him as a fellow swordsman. He was one of the rare Eight-Sword Style users. In the original story, Zoro had defeated him.

"Eight swords… interesting," Kuina said. A brief shadow crossed her face, as if old memories had surfaced.

"I've seen three-sword style before," she continued calmly. "Let's see how your eight compare."

Clang!!

Clang!!

Steel clashed violently as their blades collided, sparks flying with every strike.

Nearby, Kaya leapt forward and punched the Fishman named Chew, knocking him off balance. Earlier she had relied on a sword, but now she was using her fists instead. She still hadn't fully decided on her fighting style.

Personally, I thought a powerful, close-combat style like Tsunade's would suit her perfectly.

"Why you, chu!" Chew growled, swinging his fist at her.

Kaya narrowly dodged the blow.

"That was close," she muttered, quickly regaining her stance.

Meanwhile, Nami was fighting with ruthless efficiency. She used anything she could get her hands on—stones, swords, even her fists. She deliberately targeted weaker opponents and overwhelmed them quickly.

She had already taken down more than three of Arlong's men in a short time.

"Nami, you traitor!" One Fishman shouted. "No matter how hard you try to fit in, you'll always be an Arlong Pirate! That tattoo on your arm proves it!"

"Just shut up and die, you pathetic fish," Nami snapped.

She wasn't in the mood for words. Her fist crashed into another Fishman's face.

Crack!

I heard the unmistakable sound of a skull breaking. Whether that Fishman was alive or dead was unclear—but either way, he wasn't getting back up.

Kaya lunged forward and punched Chew again, but this time he raised his arm and blocked the attack effortlessly. She immediately stepped back, breathing hard.

"You little brat," Chew sneered. "Do you really think you can compare to Chew, a Fishman?"

Chew snarled and charged, driving his fist straight into Kaya's stomach.

Bang!!

The impact forced the air out of her lungs and sent her staggering forward, but she gritted her teeth and recovered quickly, slamming her forehead into his face.

"That was supposed to hurt?" Chew laughed.

He struck her again, harder this time. Kaya was sent flying backward, crashing to the ground. She clutched her stomach in pain. Her training had strengthened her body, but she still lacked proper combat techniques, and it showed.

I could help her, but I decided to believe in her this time. Moreover, her opponent was weak and I didn't think he could defeat her.

"Water bullet!!"

He spat a concentrated stream of water from his mouth. The impact was brutal, like being hit by a bullet. Kaya cried out and collapsed. Shot after shot struck her body—her shoulders, chest, stomach and legs. Each hit burned with pain she had never experienced before.

This was the pain of real combat.

"Pathetic human," Chew mocked. "If you're this weak, your captain must be even more pathetic."

Kaya trembled as she pushed herself up. Bruises were already forming across her body, with some broken skin leaking blood. Her vision blurred, but her eyes burned with fury.

"So you still have some strength left," Chew said. "I'll kill you, then wipe out this village. Then I will also kill your captain!"
