Chapter 1 - marriage

"I won't! I won't marry him! No…" Abigail's voice rang out in the cozy sitting room. Her belly turned. She gritted her teeth hard. Her knees were numb from kneeling for too long. Hot tears streamed down her cheeks as her heart boiled.

"Oh? You don't want to marry, hmm?" her aunty asked, sitting on the couch with legs crossed as she sipped red wine from the glass cup she was holding.

In the other corner of the room, two girls sat. They were Abigail's cousins, Mara and Clara. They hadn't actually grown up together since childhood. Abigail had just been brought back from the countryside not too long ago. It had been eight years since she had stayed with the Leonard family.

When she came, she was treated like a slave by both Clara and Mara. They never cared for her. Now the family had decided to marry them off to the families that had offered marriage for the three girls. The two girls were going to marry well-respected, high-rank citizens. According to reports, they were handsome with good reputations.

However, the last person who had offered marriage to the Leonard family was from Malcolm's family.

And what was worse was that they lied, saying he was rich. Yes, he is one of the richest men in the country. Very influential. However, Abi couldn't swallow what they were saying. It was too good to be true that they would marry her to a well-respected elite. Turns out the man was a vegetable.

She was heartbroken. She knew she couldn't escape it. If the Leonard family refused to offer their daughter, the Malcolm family wouldn't take it lightly. They had saved the Leonard family once, and they had sworn they would offer their daughter. It was too late to back down now.

Clara and Mara's soon-to-be husbands are both vampires. While the vegetable Abi was going to marry is a dragon. They are all vampires in her family. Abigail is terrified of dragons, let alone stepping her leg into their palace.

And now, her life is a mess. Tomorrow is the wedding. She can't run anywhere at all. The only thing she can do is accept her fate.

But still, she wanted to fight for survival. The dragons are the superior beings. She, a lowly fox, can't compare to him. She had been told the man was still sleeping, for centuries.

Isn't it the same thing as marrying a dead being?

"Why!Why will you agree to this marriage? Do you hate me that much?!" she cried. Her voice came out crackly. She coughed out blood, squeezing the fabric on her chest.

"Why?Because I'm not your daughter, you choose to treat me harshly?" Both Clara and Mara are pureblooded vampires. So are their parents. These past eight years, Abigail had tried to gain their attention, but to no avail; it was only coldness they showed her.

"The wedding is tomorrow, Abi, we can do nothing. Hehe," Clara mocked, making Abi lift her face and send her a blazing glare.

"Shut up!Why don't we swap places? You marry the dragon, let me marry the rich pureblooded vampire!"

"Enough,Abigail!" Aunt Grace snapped. "Stop this. It's not like the dragon isn't rich. He'll take good care of you, my dear."

They all smiled. It made Abigail's heart itch. Realizing how stupid she was, she helped herself up. Each muscle trembled with every move. After successfully rising from the floor, she started walking out of the room, telling herself that there was no longer any hope.

The next day, she was already dressed in a white wedding dress. A message came early from the dragon kingdom, telling them to send their bride immediately.

After they were finished dressing her,she went to the sitting room to meet her aunty and her two daughters. Clara and Mara were already dressed, waiting for their ride to come pick them up so they could proceed with the wedding at the groom's place. Abi was a little jealous. She couldn't even get a perfect wedding.

'I hate myself,'she thought, stepping forward.

"Hmm,Abi dear, you look good. I'm sure your husband will wake up due to your beauty," her aunty mocked, making the two girls laugh.

"Haha, you country bumpkin! You look like a horse. Haha," said Clara.

Abi's fingers clenched into a fist, making her knuckles turn white.

Knock knock!

There was a knock on the door, pulling everyone's attention. A maid opened the door and a handsome young man in his twenties stepped forward. He was handsome and charming. He wore a bright smile. He had two beautiful horns on his head. They were brown in color.

Seeing the man smile at her,Abi smiled and walked towards him. He offered his hand and Abi immediately took it.

"You look good,"he complimented, making her smile. In reality, her body was in chaos. She was trying to control the rhythm of her heart. It was beating too fast. A dragon was holding her?

"Hello, you must be Zeries' cousin, right?"

Aunt Grace said, putting on a warm smile and even standing up to bow to the dragon. Clara and Mara did the same.

"Yes.Your daughter is very beautiful. If nothing else, I'll take my leave." Before they could reply to the dragon's compliment, he had already taken Abi away, slamming the door behind him.

Abi thought they were going to take a car or something. But it turned out they teleported to the dragon's palace.

They appeared in front of the gate.As soon as they landed, the strong iron gate rolled aside.

The building inside was as stunning as she had imagined. But her heart was too sore to enjoy the sweet view.

They went into the mansion, and it felt as if no one was in there at all. Lonely and sad. She had anticipated this type of atmosphere. It was heavily guarded. All the guards' faces were so straight, marked with no emotion at all, like robots.

Looking around the room, she saw twelve maids dressed in the same uniforms, smiling warmly at her.

"Welcome, young lady," they all said, bowing their heads, making Abi blink. No one had ever done that before. It felt weird.

"Haha,"she chuckled, not knowing what to say, turning to the dragon next to her.

"My name is Ace.Make yourself comfortable. I'll be taking my leave." Saying this, the man started walking away. Abi's eyes flew open; she raised her hand to stop him, but it was too late.

"Come on, young lady, let me show you to your room." Saying this, the maid started climbing the stairs. Not wasting much time, Abigail followed after her. On the second floor, they reached the first massive bedroom. The maid pushed Abi inside. Before Abi could push the door open, it was already slammed shut.

'I know they want to kill me!'Tears streamed down her cheeks. Turning around, she looked at the king-sized bed and on it lay a god dressed in fine clothes. And she was instantly spellbound.
