Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Wife

About half a month has passed since

Donna Grimes is living with her son in

this tin shed. Her son goes to work early

in the morning and comes home back by

late night. Sometimes he even spends

the whole night out. She isn't exactly happy in this suffocating shed, but seeing all her son's

hard work and suffering she doesn't say anything to her son so as not to put more pressure on

him. She prays to her lord and saviour all day, alas there's no cathedral nearby otherwise she

would go and spend all her day there praying.

However, this morning her son had spoken to her "I miss Julie and the kids a lot. However, all of

us can't live here but the good news is I have saved up enough to rent an apartment by the

farthest side of the town. But it still won't be

enough for all of us, so I have decided

to call Julie back, but leave the kids at their grandparents. I'm going to post this letter out today"

She was delighted upon hearing the news. By the next day, they were shipping to their new

place. This place wasn't exactly big either. There were two bedrooms, a kitchen, and an

attached bathroom. But what she was most delighted at was the chimney and fireplace. She no

longer needed to endure the cold, she could spend her days sitting near the burning timbers.

Albert has somehow managed this cheap apartment. The rest of the building is

pretty dampy and there aren't any other houses by half a mile radius. He told his mother that he

had a night shift that night and he would return with Julie in the morning and she was coming by

the steam train. He left the house and headed toward his old shed, where he took his shovel

and headed towards the cemetery again. There he looked for the grave of Julie Grimes, it

wasn't long that his wife died so he did remember her spot. It was about a year ago when his

daughter of 10 years, Sharon, and his son of six, Kevin had died of illness and his wife passed

soon after in sorrow and shock. He had given all his leftover possession to make her a spot in

the graveyard. He started digging again

Dig... Dig... Dig... *Thud*

He heard the sound of the coffin wood. He removed all the coffin nails and slid it open. He

placed his hands on Julie's cheeks, gently shaking her face he whispered "Julie...Julie...my

love"

Julie opened her blue eyes gently, not even a year has passed and her eyes have become

greyish white.

"O Albert" she uttered. He led her a hand to help her sit up and then stand up. She couldn't

keep her feet straight. He hugged her tightly. A tear drop had fallen off his eyes, however, Julie's

mind was still in haze, as if she couldn't process a thing. However, the warmth of Albert's hug

felt pretty good to her. He left the coffin and grave he had opened this time, and led his wife to

the shed, left her muddled brain to sleep and came back to close the grave. After filling in, he

went back to the shed, rested for a while and wake her up a few hours before

the dawn. "Let's go home!" said Albert.

Julie's mind was a lot clearer now, she was finally able to process things.

"where are we?" asked Julie, "where are the

children" she added

"Don't you remember, I had fallen to big

loss in our business and I sent you and the kids back to your father's, however, I have saved up

some, I have missed you so much that I called you back and left the kids at your father's. So

you came back by the train, it was too dark so we stayed the night in this shed!"

"Oh, yeah, what has happened to me? how could I forget! Let's head back home!"

They walked back home, Donna had cooked the meal for their breakfast. She rejoiced upon

seeing Julie back, she hugged her and kissed her on the cheeks, Albert was happy upon seeing

their reunion, however, he was tired of all the last night's digging. So he told them to not wake

him up before supper.

He woke up around afternoon, eat with his

mother and Julie and left with her for the groceries shopping. She asked how their financial

situation was and he replied the same thing he had said to his mother that he had some

investments and he would get some profit return so they would be in their previous days in no

time. After the shopping they came back gossiping and in love as if they were in their

honeymoon phase again. At night she and her mother-in-law cooked dinner together and went

to bed.

"I still remember the day I met you the first time, a friend of mine had taken me to your father's

place to see the farm, there I set in the drawing room, you walked out of your room by mistake

on the second floor as you didn't realise there were guests out and you were playing with your

little cousin who ran out

of the room, I fell in love that very moment and instead of buying property I asked for your hand

in marriage that very day! oh it became so awkward, my friend couldn't stop laughing and

your father was so flabbergasted. He had quite the reaction on his face I tell you."

"Oh come on! you are making me blush

in this old age. What happened to you

all of a sudden being so romantic.."

"I don't know, you're just so beautiful I feel like I could fall in love with you all over again" he

kissed her on the lips as he said it. And with each passing minute, they sank in each other.

[P.S Albert is in his early forties, and Julie was in her mid thirties when she died]
