Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Who am I..?

I woke up to the sound of something scratching at metal. There were no lights where I was. It stank of rot and something I couldn't quite comprehend.

'Meow..'

The little sound came from beside me. Sitting beside what seemed to be a dumpster was a little black cat.

It was thin and almost dead but it still had a sharp predatory glint in its green eyes.

It stared at me with its head tilted to one side.

Meowing again, it turned away. Scavenging for food in the black dumpster.

I was hit with a bout of nausea as I sought to stand.

My head spinning. My body felt weak and utterly exhausted.

'Where am I..? Who am I..?'

I didn't have any memories of how I had ended up in a dark alley.

With my emaciated body I walked out of the alley.

My head still spinning and in pain.

The roads were filled with cars and unfamiliar dim lights.

The alley lead directly to the busy, car filled roads.

No other pedestrians in sight.

My eyes were starting to blur again.

I had to find someone or a hospital.

I walked towards the street as the traffic lights turned red.

My steps were slow, the black pants were ill fitted on my legs. The base dragged though the wet tarred road.

My head was spinning. The pain worsening the more I moved.

Then, like a tragic cannon fodder male lead, I fell. My head hitting the road.

I blacked out in the middle of the road.

The owners of the waiting cars all sat astonished in their vehicles, unsure of whether to help or not.

****

I awoke to the thick smell of disinfectant diffused through the bleached white walls o a hospital. My mind's buzz had been reduced to only slight pangs. There was an IV drip attached to my pale wrist.

As i sat up on the hospital bed, a man dressed in white coat walked in with an old man following closely behind.

The man's back was straight even with the obvious white of his hair. His eyes were soft and gentle but couldn't hide his sharp edge.

The Doctor was a young man, presumably in his late thirties. His voice was low as he spoke to the man. His respect for the old man seen clearly in his straight back and never-leaving smile.

The man was obviously not simple.

"Oh... you're awake. How do you feel?"

The doctors voice rose a notch as he spoke to me, though the amiable look in his eyes didn't fade.

"Just a little headache.. "

He hummed lightly. He raised up a patient file in his arms and glanced through.

He walked to my bedside, the old man stood a little farther away.

"Your file is currently blank.., i hope i would be able to fill it up right now, if you don't mind."

I nodded slowly, my brows furrowing in doubt.

"What is your name...?"

"I.. don't know"

The doctor frowned a little.

"Judging by your appearance and the state of your internals, you are in your early twenties..?"

"I don't Know"

"Where are you from...?"

"I don't know"

The doctor asked nothing else but he exchanged a look with the quiet old man.

"Young man, I am Mr. Saito Hiroshi, i will take charge of you from now henceforth..."

My muddled mind was forced to comprehend the old man's words.

I might've forgotten everything but i wasn't stupid.

"What do you want from me...?"

The man stared straight to my eyes. like he could see through my soul.

A shiver ran through my spine.

"You will be my son, attend Tenrei Academy and establish your own network before graduation... Do you agree...?"

I was baffled..., so was the doctor.

"My Lord....Tenrei Academy? we don't even know who he is..!"

"What is Tenrei Academy...?"

The Silence that came after my question was a little ridiculous... Was i supposed to remember that but forget my own Identity..?

The old man..., Mr. Saito coughed a little to disperse the silence before setting his dark eyes on me.

You will learn all that needs to be learned in due time...

He smiled.
