After the fire city area, there was a couple of feet of empty walking space, then a gigantic canyon. There was nothing between the end of the fire area and the canyon except a piece of land that was elevated, so no one could see what was up there. The only thing that they could see was the light pillar. The light pillar was on that piece of land.
It was clear that this was the last area — the canyon that they needed to cross to finish the test. But here was the problem.
"How the fuck are we supposed to cross this canyon…" Ren unconsciously said. He honestly didn't know how they could cross it without some sort of flying ability.
"Hey Ren, look over there," Rex said, pointing at something.
When Ren tried to look at the canyon, he spotted something. It was a zip elevator — or a carriage elevator. It was that elevator that goes back and forth between two places.
(Author note: I have no idea what this elevator is called.)
The elevator was coming back to the edge. Ren and Rex looked at each other. They understood the whole challenge behind the canyon now. There were probably multiple other elevators like that one going back and forth, which meant only a certain number of people could go to the light pillar at a time. It probably only held two people.
And the whole challenge was to fight for the elevator — or at least find another way to cross the canyon.
Ren and Rex moved along the edge, heading toward the elevator. They had their guard up. Who knew when they would run into other teams. Yes — other teams. It was most likely that the ones heading there had also guessed the challenge behind the canyon and decided to team up to increase their chances of winning and getting to the elevator.
The two of them quietly moved toward the elevator until they reached near it. The space at the edge near the elevator became wider, taking some space from the fire area. There were some pillars, cars, or whatever — enough space for people to hide behind.
Ren and Rex decided to quietly hide behind a car and see what was going on before deciding what they would do next.
They peered toward the elevator that had just arrived back at the edge.
Clank.
The sound of the elevator rang all over the place. But so far, nothing happened. It didn't appear like anyone was coming out of their hiding spot so easily.
For a while, nothing really happened. Until two girls tried to approach the elevator as quickly as possible. They dashed toward it fast — extremely fast. It seemed like both of the girls had speed-enhancing powers.
But before they could enter the elevator, they stopped — because an orange barrier appeared around it.
When they looked around, they saw a boy and a girl. The boy was holding his hand forward. He was the one that created the barrier.
And the girl dashed forward — toward the two girls.
The two speed girls moved toward her. They arrived in front of her pretty quickly and both tried to punch her in the face. But before their fists could land, wind around the girl started to spin around her, sending the two girls flying away from her.
One crashed into a pillar, and the other crashed into a carriage.
When the two girls looked at the one they tried to attack, they saw wind spinning around her — like a mini tornado that she was inside of. She quickly used the power of the tornado around her to move quickly toward the one that crashed into the pillar. The wind tore apart whatever was in her path.
The speed girl tried to dodge — but the tornado girl was just as fast as her now. The tornado sent her flying not only did the tornado damage her she also crashed pretty hard. On the other side other speed girl that looked exactly like her — her twin.
The twin got up as well and tried to interfere and help her sister. But the barrier guy held her back by creating a barrier in front of her, so the sister couldn't help but watch her sister being beaten.
"Wash — Hhh — Bang — Bokko—"
The tornado girl just kept ramming into the speedster girl until light appeared from the speedster. She got teleported away.
"Nooo!"
The sister was shocked. Now she was angry at the girl who just beat her sister up like that. She quickly moved around the barrier guy as fast as possible and took a stance — pointing her forearms straight and bending them back. She stopped for a second, then immediately dashed toward the tornado girl as fast as she could go — to the point that the tornado girl, who was just as fast as them earlier, couldn't react.
The speedster girl crashed into the tornado girl, pinning her to the wall. The tornado shredded and destroyed the wall along the way — but it was thick, so it didn't break immediately.
"Gyy— gyy—"
The tornado girl was choking because the speedster girl was gripping her neck with both hands. Even while the tornado was still around her, both of the speedster's arms were inside the tornado — being damaged and shredded by the strong wind.
It was painful, but her hands could handle it, because her power of super speed came with some durability enhancement. She could survive crashes — and the wind pressure like right now.
The speedster girl remembered the expression of her sister and how badly she got beaten. That memory made her even angrier. She squeezed the tornado girl's neck harder — to the point that she got teleported away. Not because she couldn't breathe anymore, but because of the sheer strength crushing her neck.
The whole thing happened so fast that when she looked back, the barrier guy was just realizing what the hell was happening. He looked into the speedster's eyes and saw the fury in them — and he took a step back in fear.
The girl disappeared.
He unconsciously created a barrier around himself — and bang.
He saw a fist hitting the barrier. Her fist.
He didn't react. He didn't flinch.
The only reaction he made was something he hoped no one could see right now — his pants were wet.
But the girl didn't care or even register that. She tried to punch the barrier from different directions, but it didn't work.
The guy was scared now. He saw how angry she was. He knew she wouldn't settle for a quick takedown.
The girl just kept punching and punching the barrier, but it didn't work. Her hands were too damaged for that.
So she thought of something else.
She backed down — went far away, giving herself enough distance.
The guy knew this was bad and immediately strengthened his barrier to the limit. But the girl dashed as fast as she could and arrived near the barrier.
This time she didn't punch it.
She kicked it.
The kick was so strong the barrier broke — and even before the impact could reach him, he got teleported away.
The girl fell to the ground and started inhaling air. She had just moved as fast as she could in a dash twice. Her arms were damaged, and the kick she just did was powerful enough that her leg hurt now.
But she smiled — because now she could pass the test.
Before she knew it, she felt something grab her neck and choke it.
She tried to rip apart whatever was on her neck, but her arms were too damaged to exert enough strength —
And she got teleported away.
