Chapter 5 - Ch 5- Starting at the Bottom - Part 2

"Take me back to my office. Also, find me a list of actresses that look similar to Jenna Harvour. We will be sticking to our plan of using a body double for her."

Damian told his driver/bodyguard as soon as he slid in his car seat. His bodyguard opened his mouth to speak up, but the look on Damian's face made him pause.

Still, he felt like he had to be the one to speak of the new possibility fate had granted them.

"Boss, how about not using an actress, but that young lady you purchased to play the role of Lady Jenna? Their faces are so similar that you don't even need additional makeup. Most people would be fooled—"

The driver dodged the bullet his boss shot at him as a warning shot. The intent behind it was clear—keep your mouth shut.

"Don't speak nonsense. I am not going to risk involving a civilian in my revenge plan. Especially not someone who looks and acts so much like 'her'."

Damian sounded sure, and the driver could not help but think of this as a missed opportunity. But the driver had already put his neck out once. He was not going to do that again.

As for Damian? He just felt confused.

In his mind, he knew that the person he had rescued was not his first love, but someone else. But she acted just like the person he missed, and she looked like that person as well.

It also felt like that person had come back to him.

And that was why, even if he knew that the best course of action would be for him to ask the lady he rescued to play the role of Jenna Harvour, he could not bring himself to ask her.

He did not want to taint his memory of his precious person with another. He reminded his heart that the person he was leaving behind was a stranger to him.

But his heart refused to believe him and demanded him to go back.

'I will check on her once in a while. I am sure my feelings will change once I see that she has settled down safely in her new life. I will give it a week before I wash my hands off her.'

That was what Damian decided. But fate had other plans for him and Jenna.

"-This is the bathroom. Before we get you settled in, I will tell you what your duties are. You can eat your lunch once you are done with them. Oh, but you will have to buy your own lunch. Everyone buys their own lunch here."

The manager 'showed' me around the store. And by that I meant that she had me travel the same corridor of the bathroom section five times by now. I could even pinpoint the chipped paint on the wall.

Finally, after the fifth round, she left me in the bathroom without explaining what I needed to do here.

'Does she want me to clean the bathroom? Is that really the worst she can think of to harass me?'

I asked myself before I looked around for supplies. But there were none in the bathroom, so I decided to head back outside.

The manager saw me coming back and instantly frowned.

"Are you done already?"

"There were no supplies available."

The manager frowned and she opened her mouth to reprimand but then noticed that there were too many customers around. She put off speaking and instead told me to follow her.

As I followed after her, but because she was walking in front of me, I was not able to notice someone else heading our way.

"Hey, get out of the way—"

The server told us and the manager got out in time. Due to her blocking my vision, I was not as lucky, and the dish collided with my arm before hot, burning pain seared my hand.

"Oh—! I am so sorry. I was just delivering that hot coffee to a customer and I did not notice…! Are you alright? Here, let me help—!"

The server that had spilled hot coffee on my hand quickly grabbed it and squeezed my burn.

Searing pain shot up my arm, causing me to clutch and yank my hand out of her grip. Although the female in front of me apologized for hurting me, I could not feel any emotion of regret in her voice or face.

"P-Please, forgive me. You just suddenly appeared in front of me and caused this accident. I am trying to make up for it, so please don't pull away from me. I'm only trying to help."

The female played the victim card. She was the one who had injured me, but she was speaking as if it was my fault this accident had happened.

One look around told me that I would not get any help from the others around me either.

This world was not a fair place. Those in power could do anything, and those at other's mercy had to accept their fate.

Even I had to know when to cut my battle loose. And this time, I decided to retreat.

"It's fine. Just let me go and put my hand under cold water. Can someone get me some medicine?"

I asked, and someone finally went to get me some. As I left, I saw the manager and other girls trying to console the waitress who hurt me.

"Don't worry. We all know it's not your fault. She startled you by appearing suddenly."

The manager told the girl, and I felt too tired to argue. I went to the kitchen and popped my hand under running water.

Five minutes passed, but there was still no sign of anyone coming to give me medicine. I stood there awkwardly.

Finally, the manager came around and handed me the first aid kit.

"Tsk, you started causing me trouble too soon. Look at how much water you wasted already."

Her words cut but I endured without speaking. Little did I realize how big of a mistake I made.
