Chapter 22
Maureen
"Come in."
His voice was cold. Flat. Emotionless.
I pushed the door open slowly and stepped inside. The room felt larger than it should have, colder too. The curtains were half-drawn, letting only a thin line of light cut across the floor.
Stefan stood near the window, his back to me.
"You sent for me," I said quietly.
He didn't turn around immediately. When he did, his eyes were sharp, unreadable, like he was looking at something he had already decided to destroy.
"Sit," he ordered.
I obeyed. My legs felt weak as I lowered myself onto the chair opposite his desk.
Silence stretched between us.
"Do you know why you're here?" he finally asked.
I shook my head. "No, Alpha."
The word tasted bitter on my tongue.
He walked closer, stopping just in front of me. "You're pregnant."
My heart slammed against my ribs.
"Yes," I whispered.
"I didn't ask for confirmation," he snapped. "I know."
