Chapter 1 - Shattered By Betrayal

"You're broke, poor, and I don't see me in any future together with you—so stop forcing things and move on with your miserable life!"

Sophia yelled angrily at Jordan, her voice sharp and rough, her eyes filled with disgust and hatred almost as if she wanted to tear Jordan into pieces of Shreds.

"Sophia, I've tried so hard to provide everything you've ever wanted as my girlfriend, working extra hours and even starving myself just to make you happy, and this is how you choose to repay me? By stabbing me in the back?" Jordan replied, his tone calm, though disbelief flickered in his eyes of reverie. He was trying hard not to let anger consume him, nor let his emotions crumble him.

"Maybe you're just not trying hard enough, as I had always wanted, so get lost and make yourself useful somewhere else," Sophia muttered, folding her hands around her chest as she pushed her gaze away from Jordan.

"Well," she continued with a scoff and chuckle, "just know I've moved on and am no more interested in you anymore. I'm with someone now—someone who can provide all my needs, giving me ten times more than you ever could offer," Sophia laughed after saying these horrible words that made Jordan swallow hard with disbelief.

Just then, a man stepped out from behind the door where Sophia stood facing Jordan.

The moment Jordan saw him, his heart sank like a solid metal thrown into an ocean. Rage surged through him like an arrow piercing through a tree, and for a second, he felt the impulse to attack—but he froze, standing like a statue. The man was massive, muscular, intimidatingly strong. If he came down to a fight with Jordan, Jordan knew he'd be crushed like an egg. Jordan had not even a single chance toward the man.

"Sophia, who is this?" Jordan asked, his voice below his breath, his brow furrowed in confusion, and at some point, he felt like not believing what he was seeing.

"Oh, him?" Sophia laughed sarcastically. "He's my boyfriend—the new one I told you about. can't you see how muscular and good looking he is? unlike you who looks so skinny."

Sophia sighed in a relieved, chuckled then continued her scornful words.

"Now that everything is Clear to you, I want you to cut whatever attachment you still have to me, be it love, be it concern, be it anything, just get the hell out of my life. That's all I have to say to you, and please take this as an advice not rejection. but if am to make this entire situation blunt and truthful to you, yeah of course it's rejection, and I have never, even for once loved you," She laughed scornfully, her words cutting deep.

Jordan stood there, stunned. Betrayal burned through his chest like a volcanic eruption. Sophia's words were almost unbelievable to Jordan, he had worked extra shifts, skipped meals—done everything he could to make Sophia happy—and still, it wasn't enough for her.

"I can't believe this is actually happening," he mumbled under his breath. "I had trusted you my entire life, loved you unconditionally. And now... you just want to throw me away, like I was nothing in your life at some point?" Jordan said.

Sophia scoffed with a chuckle then narrowed her eyes away as she gave a casual reply to Jordan words of disbelief, "Love doesn't pay the bills," Sophia replied coldly. "What matters now is what you can offer. If you can't meet my standards, then I am sorry but I can't stay in poverty."

It was hard for Jordan to admit the fact unfolding before him. Furious, he pulled the small gift box from his pocket—the necklace he'd bought for her birthday—and flung it to the ground, the box rolled and the necklace slipped out from it. Just after then without warning, his hands began trembling. Tears welled up in his eyes and rolled down his cheeks like a river of endless water. the weight of the moment crushed him deeply to the verge of nothingness.

"uhm Jordan—or whatever your name is," Alaric, Sophia's new boyfriend, growled. "You've got two minutes to get out of here, or I'll beat the hell out of your skinny body which you know won't end well," Alaric warned.

Jordan stepped back, not from the threat itself, but from the clear realization that he stood no chance against this man standing In Front of him.

"Sophia... thank you for the insult, the betrayal," Jordan mumbled under his breath, his head down, his voice breaking. "Just know I'll never forget the good times we shared," he added.

Jordan wiped his tears with the back of his wrist, then turned and walked away, his steps aimlessly his breath hardened.

Sophia felt a small sting of pity at his words but quickly shoved the emotion aside. Her decision had been made and nothing in this whole world could change it.

Jordan continued walking aimlessly through the streets, seething with heartbreak with the experience below his chest. And at this time, it was already midnight. The heavy glow of the streetlights shone like a guiding lamp though his way until suddenly, they all began flickering then went out in an instant.
