Chapter 47: Under Attack
Laboratory, Fourth Floor.
Martin Brenner was watching a child playing with a Rubik's cube.
A security guard knocked on the door and entered.
"All contact lost?"
Hearing the guard's report, Brenner couldn't help raising his voice.
The child opposite him stopped his hand movements and looked up at Brenner.
Seeing this, Brenner stood up and signaled the guard to come to the corridor.
"Are there any survivors?"
"Yes... but."
According to the guard, the first to third underground floors had fallen, and all electronic equipment inside had failed.
The last surveillance footage showed something emerging from the crack and attacking the researchers present.
Later, guards arrived and found traces of suspected "survivors."
But just as they were about to rescue them, those "survivors" suddenly attacked.
"They moved very fast and possessed extraordinary strength. We suffered heavy losses."
The guard looked serious.
"We need more support."
Brenner frowned, and after a moment ordered:
"Seal off the fallen area immediately. I will convey your request to the higher-ups."
After the guard left, Brenner went to his office.
He checked the footage sent back.
The underground was shrouded in shadows, many vines clung to the walls, and some things were vaguely wandering in the corridors.
Seeing this scene, Brenner immediately shut down the laboratory's communication lines.
From this moment on, no one could contact the outside world.
...
Byers' House.
After the previous plan failed, William immediately decided to find Jane Ives (Eleven).
She was a participant in the Hawkins National Laboratory, code-named 011, possessing strong psychic abilities.
The passage between the present world and the Upside Down was inadvertently opened by her.
But before that.
"Dustin, Mike, Lucas, it's time for you to go home."
Although the boys were reluctant to leave, it was getting late, and William had to send them off first.
Joyce offered to drive.
At this moment, William was her only hope of finding her son.
...
More than ten minutes later.
A car stopped by the roadside in the town.
Dustin and Lucas had already been dropped off, leaving only Mike.
The latter got out of the car with a reluctant look.
William also got out to ensure he arrived safely.
"Mike?"
At this time, a female voice sounded from the side.
William turned his head and saw a familiar face—Nancy Wheeler.
"Why are you here? Who is this?"
Seeing her brother with a young priest, Nancy was puzzled.
But then she saw Joyce.
Knowing that the three went to find Will, Nancy relaxed.
"I'm sorry about Will."
This was a big event in the town recently; she had known about it for a long time.
Then she came to William.
"Thank you for sending Mike home."
Nancy lowered her head as she spoke, tucking her hair behind her ear.
The priest in front of her was young, with calm eyes, looking very steady.
This made Nancy feel a different kind of attraction.
Seeing this, Mike shook his head.
William was a bit disappointed, thinking to himself: "Pair of A's, can't beat that."
The three walked toward the house together.
Seeing Nancy return, William originally planned to leave.
But he suddenly remembered—situations where accidents happen just a few meters from home often occur in American horror stories.
So he decided to walk them to the door.
On the way, Nancy indirectly asked about William.
Her elbow often "accidentally" touched him.
But seeing William's minimal reaction, she felt a bit disappointed.
Soon, the three arrived in front of the house.
Mike went upstairs first.
Nancy held her books and said goodbye to William.
"So..."
"Nancy?"
Nancy just started speaking when she heard someone calling her.
William looked in that direction and saw a curly-haired young man.
"Steve!"
Nancy's eyes lit up; she didn't expect him to wait for her here.
William recognized him, one of the few reliable humans in the original work.
Steve naturally took Nancy's hand, stood in front of her, and stared at William vigilantly.
"Didn't you say you were looking for Barbara? Who is this?"
Last night, the two had just spent a night together at Steve's mansion.
William narrowed his eyes and immediately sensed a trace of hostility.
He was about to speak, but frowned.
He pulled Steve and Nancy aside abruptly.
"Hey! Don't f*cking touch me..."
Steve was about to get angry, but saw a black shadow fly past where he had just stood.
Only then did he realize the priest was saving him.
After seeing the shadow clearly, Steve's eyes sharpened.
He saw a creature shaped like a dog blocking the road.
This thing had no head.
Instead, it had a petal-shaped mouthpart with many fangs inside.
And there were two more such monsters.
Nancy and Steve's hearts beat fast; they had never seen such creatures.
William recognized at a glance that this was one of the forms of the immature Demogorgon, also called a Demodog.
However, how could this thing appear here?
Before he could think further, the Demodogs attacked again.
Grrr... grrr...
They roared.
Two of them pounced on Steve and Nancy.
The remaining one circled William but refused to come forward, sensing a trace of danger from the creature in front of it.
Seeing this, William secretly said it was a pity and put away the holy water in his hand.
Due to the suddenness of the incident, he wasn't fully prepared.
And besides these three, he didn't know if there were more Demodogs.
So William planned to end the battle quickly.
"Since you're not coming, I won't be polite."
He exerted force under his feet and rushed from the spot instantly, surprisingly fast.
On the other side.
Steve was worthy of being one of the Gods of War in Hawkins.
After a brief panic, he quickly regained his composure and grabbed a dry tree trunk nearby.
Bang.
Steve was knocked flying several meters.
"So strong!" He grimaced, his chest aching faintly.
Seeing the Demodog pouncing again, Steve tried to attack this time.
He picked up a stone and smashed it hard at the Demodog's head.
But the latter just tilted its "head" slightly, then "stared" at the human in front of it again.
Steve swallowed hard.
The situation on Nancy's side wasn't optimistic either.
After dodging the last pounce, she unfortunately twisted her ankle and fell to the ground.
And the Demodog pounced on her again.
Nancy trembled, closing her eyes in despair.
"Nancy!"
Seeing this, Steve was burning with anxiety, but he was too busy to help.
Just as the Demodog pounced to a meter in front of Nancy, its head was suddenly stepped on to the ground.
William quickly took out holy water and splashed it.
The Demodog's skin was instantly purified, revealing the scarlet organs underneath.
The holy water seeped all the way down, dissolving the flesh inside.
This Demodog struggled on the spot, but couldn't move an inch from beginning to end.
After a few struggles, only a skeleton remained.
"Huff."
Nancy panted, looking at William in shock.
At this moment, he didn't look human in her eyes.
Seeing Nancy saved, Steve also breathed a sigh of relief.
But he was also extremely surprised.
He had personally experienced the power of the Demodog and couldn't shake it at all.
But under that priest's foot, this monster was unusually "docile."
And that liquid, what exactly was it?
Steve couldn't leave a mark on the monster with a stone.
But that liquid could melt it instantly.
In the gap of Steve's distraction, the last Demodog pounced again.
He was unprepared for a moment and could only hide behind a forked tree.
In the next second, the Demodog bit down, fortunately blocked by the tree trunk.
But at this speed, the tree trunk being bitten off was only a matter of moments.
On the other side.
William used [Night Vision] to check the surroundings and found no traces of other monsters for the time being.
Only then did he come to Steve's side, keeping a safe distance from the Demodog.
Seeing the priest coming, the latter hurriedly said: "Help me."
"Of course, but there is something very important you must understand."
William said as he took out the holy water.
"I'm not interested in your girlfriend; I prefer bigger..."
He made a certain gesture.
Steve looked confused upon hearing this.
"Huh?"
