Chapter 10 - A Caged Bird and a Deal

Adam had paused, as he looked over to his would be "wife" with a raised eyebrow, a unintentionally dull expression compared to his eyes and hair that glowed Blue-Purple Gradient, colors of uncertainty, thoughts processing…maybe confusion is more accurate, but that is mental disarray and not necessarily an emotion.

"Lilith…could you repeat that?" All the while I have been petting a Caribean Monk Seal…something had gone extinct in the modern era in his time, said creature was laying on the beach, allowing Adam to scratch and pet him.

The perfect beach with pristinely white, a little pinkish sand here and there, crystal blue waters, under the beautiful sunset, where despite sitting for an hour straight before Lilith found me my Great Ass made sure I was comfortable.

(Which definitely drew eyes from Lilith and Samuel…it was actually a little entertaining how a lot of the angels just froze and were a little golden on the cheeks when the trait emerged)

All very innocent and sweet.

Lilith meanwhile looked at him, annoyed at having to repeat herself, "I think we should get out of Eden, and honestly get to personally know the outside world".

Right, Adam heard that the first time, and he was just as confused as the first time.

"…And pray tell why?" I swear if this was another jab at the angels-

"I'm starting to get irritated-" 'Started?' Was Adam's immediate thought, before Lilith continued, "-by the constant, and meaningless tasks the angels have us do…and keeping us contained to this one spot…as if we are just some…pets to them," she snarled at the last part bitterly to the side.

While the First Man rolled his eyes, a little exasperated…but pleased that the First Woman trusted him enough to actually speak to him on this, despite the clear failure that their marriage was becoming.

It's a little hilarious, true a love is growing, but it was aggressively platonic when we got along with mostly everything when the topic isn't sexual or angelic in origin.

"Lil, I'm gonna be honest…first of all…this spot you just insulted," he gave a blank smile to her as he tapped the sandy before pointing to the paradise behind them, "Is in of itself, incredibly large…it's unmatched with variety and beauty like no other,"

"Compared to what exactly Adam? This is all we ever know and whatever else the controlling angels deign to tell us when they deem to do so," she retorted.

Adam deadpanned at her, "One of the "Controlling" angels includes Samuel I hope you are aware Lilith," he reminded her.

She immediately scoffed and rolled her eyes playfully, "Hardly, he is actually…enjoyable…quite frankly adorable with his stumbling compared to his brethren who only come to tell us what to do".

…Well she had a point there, Adam heeded, most of the angels…were a little hands off with them, sure they were checking in on them, a lot of them he was assuming was when they were unaware, remembering how Uriel overlooked him that one time.

Samuel was…very nice, and chill really, though he probably came here at first because he was very lonely,…later because of their friendship and the fact that he was fairly sure Sammy liked them both…though sadly for him, while I felt no real disgust about his attraction towards me, I didn't really feel a thing towards him like how I felt towards Lilith at first.

He was also certain that he wasn't supposed to be here nearly as often as he has visited over the lengthy time he has lived.

…He may legit just nudge her and Sammy to be a couple, whatever interest he may have had has basically died off.

It was like living with a roommate that has dropped all sense of social manners and just acted as they will.

Whatever conversation they have had about their marriage, or even rarer about doing the "deed" has steadily become so rare, it no longer came up, the last conversation about it has been months ago.

Doesn't help that we put zero effort into convincing the other into actually going through with it.

Adam once decided that to just "fuck it" and just let her have control and fun for the night and have it over with.

But she immediately sniffed him out—probably due to his hair and eyes—and that annoyed and infuriated her more than literally anything else.

She made it painfully—to my ears at least—clear that if they were going to do anything, it wasn't going to be because he decided to just "give in".

Apparently, accommodating to her was insulting…in what way he was not entirely sure, it could have ranged from guilt, genuinely wanted it to be fully enjoyable to both sides, or it really was straight up insulting for her that he didn't also want her to be in control.

He had no real power to understand woman sadly, but than again, it might have also to do with the fact that she wasn't even technically one years old yet.

All the while she had the mind and decent grasp of knowledge—permitted by angels and God he guessed—to certainly seem like she was a lot older.

Still, ignoring his nonexistent love that laid in shambles, he was devastatingly going off topic.

He lifted a second finger alongside the first, "Also, may I remind you, my little spitfire, of the danger and chaos that roams on the outside here,".

"Allegedly," she immediately responded quite pointedly to which he barely acknowledged.

But he DID hear her, as Adam nodded, "yes, from their words. What of our dear duckling of an angel? what did he say?"

Looking to the side, quite obviously in thought, before she answered, "It was essentially the starting point of life…where they dropped off whatever cells are…before they stuck them together to create a bigger thing made up of that one small thing…he said that it was essentially their workshop, where they experimented and after a while just…abandoned them and started the "Eden Project"," she quoted with her fingers.

"And what happened to the animals left behind?…" He was leading her on so she could get to the answer all on her own.

She shrugged, "That they started changing all on their own, with so many variety that there was essentially as many as the stars he worked on. A lot of beauty with the colliding natures, but the animals fighting over each other,"

He gestured her to "go on" as he nodded, "Yes~ you are on the right track, but let's expand on the last bit…fighting over each other…what does that mean?" He was getting the impression she was skimming it over without actually considering what it means.

"…They fight each other," she repeated, not sure what else he was asking.

"Over what?"

"I…I don't know?? Their nice resting spot? Perhaps their favorite fruit?"

"Nope…to live,"

Her eyes blanked, "To…live?" Her voice just as dulled as her expression, I could see how her gears are refusing to compute.

He nodded, a little interested what my only other human thought about this without my idea of context added on top of that, "to live…to not die,"

"…The angels said something about that as well about eating the forbidden apple, that we would surely die…I…am somewhat aware of what they were talking about…I believe," she paused as she carefully chose her words as she looked down at the seal that had steadily fallen asleep.

Adam nodded, still paying attention but eyes still on the very friendly animal that was dozing off, "yes, they fight to live, to not die, to not…stop,"

"…what is death?"

Ah hitting him with the tough questions are we?

He took a very deep breath, looking up at the sky, tilting his head in contemplation, "It's like…when your body is too hurt, it goes to sleep…forever,"

She froze, I can practically see how much this information was so very…hard for her to swallow, barely able to understand what I was talking about, couldn't wrap her mind around it.

"…Forever? You cannot just shake them awake? Or wait them to stand back up?"

The first man shook his head, hair and eyes gray, feeling solemn grim, "Forever, you wouldn't be able to wake them up, much like a rock, and soon to become just as cold and hard,"

"…but why?…why does that…exist" She sounded small, the first time he honestly heard her sound so…vulnerable, as if she just heard the cruelest thing in existence, when it was the most basic principle of life…it ends.

There was afterall far crueler fates than dying afterall.

But still…it was a heavy topic, one that…he couldn't really answer, much less translate to her, and so…he gave a helpless shrugged.

"…We are supposedly not meant to die…so…hopefully it does not come to that," he turned to her, and she looked troubled, and maybe a little down and bitter.

"So that's how it is…we are to be trapped, birds in binding and restricted and told what to do for the rest of our existence, like dogs in leashes," heatedly staring at the ground, her flowing hair whipping and lashing out in her currently high emotions.

"Trapped in these walls…when freedom lies just beyond them, kept in by our handlers!" Ok Eren Yeager, jeez calm the fuck down.

Adam looked at her as she spatted out the words, he never really understood on what exactly the people meant by a gilded cage.

Something about freedom and choice, which sure…are important…but he lived in a time where people had to live to work and not the other way around, and it was still not enough most of the time…

He knew if people had a choice to go to a cage or prison, one in gold where they had every luxury and delight in exchange for not being able to leave the cage, a lot of them would kill to get in there.

A little bit of self reflection…he realized that he was one of those people, sure he had his pride…but he genuinely loved Eden, and did not so much as care over the fact that it was a very small part of the world they were allowed to roam.

However, if there was one thing that was honestly upsetting…

He recalled Samuel while not disliking the Garden, he wasn't entirely attached to it either, caring only for the two of them.

On how Lilith seemed so utterly dissatisfied with…everything the angels have built, how she longish looked up at the stars or the gate we passed by through daily routines.

How for all everything the angels have done for us,…they hardly ever too seem to be hear and just…enjoy it with us or even be physically present.

…It was a fact that he was the only one that seemed to actually enjoy the Garden.

So despite the fact, that he would much rather she gave up and actually started enjoying the paradise with me, to our hearts content…

He was a bleeding heart, and she wanted the winds over the golden luxury and safety.

He stood up, or more accurately, he floated up with Airbending to which Lilith looked like she was just a little bit jealous.

Samuel could do something similar to his trick, but it always impressed him how Adam seeminglessly just did it…with no lick of magic apparently.

Lil however after staring in awe at his display of elemental manipulation, tried for a week straight to just…wave her hands and make things happened.

After a while she just stared at him with a heated glare and a pout as she could never seem to crack how to make what he did…happen.

It's a skill…so he was under the impression that it was…to some extent, possible to just learn it, but he had a feeling it was something far more down, minor to the inner core of his being that he needs to alter.

Lilith sighed, figuring it was time to actually finish up our daily chores we left to be done later tonight.

Adam stretched, cracking his knuckles and his neck, "Let us get started," as he went to go grab a stick laying nearby.

She sighed glumly as she stood up as well, "I'll handle the Hippos, powers know that they get too fussy in the dark-" his chuckle interrupted her, as she frowned at him.

He twirled a particularly long straight stick, that disintegrated Intermeidtae Polearm Mastery found acceptable to use, "I am going to teach you how to actually bite back when needed, bark is not enough I'm afraid".

She paused, genuinely stunned at what I just said, "But…our chores?" She said in confusion as she stared at me expertly maneuvering my "weapon" around.

Adam shrugged, "Why do you care, they are just chores in the end of the day," Now she really looked lost when he was typically the one who nags to the fact we need to remain consistent, as her mouth and closed, not sure what to say.

He clapped his hands, and closed his eyes, as suddenly a bright green light emerged from his chest, causing Lilith to stand back in surprise.

Before gasping when she looked at what popped out, little green and other ranging colored spirits, numbered fifty as their adorable selves surrounded the First Man and the First Woman.

Junimo

Adam kneeled down, a soft, monotone smile and tone as he quietly whispered, "Could you help us out little guys? Me and the pretty girl here, I believe we will be pretty busy for quite some time, I think you guys are aware of what needs to be done~" the little guys jumped up and down with indecernable language in obvious joy and excitemen, saluting at me, before they ran off into the distance, splitting themselves into 10 squads, each holding five Junimo to get the tasks done.

Back to buisiness, Lilith having eventually gotten over the cute little guys and sorted it under "things Adam can do and I can't" she frowned at him.

"Adam…are you feeling ok?…You are usually insisted that we do everything the angels say," Adam rolled his eyes.

He retorted, "I had no real reason to say no~ Besides that was then, this is now, now I am going to have to get you into proper shape!" Tossing another stick like his own at her to which she clumsily tried to catch but promptly managed to drop it to the ground.

She went to go grab it, while narrowing her eyes at me, "Whatever for,"

He shrugged, "I can't stop you, you are eventually going to just go off into the wilds…I want to at least make sure you actually have the skills to survive and run, if not thrive in that environment," it was inevitable from what he understood, he didn't need to delude himself further.

Her frown deepened, "There's no need, I can take care of myself-" she started proudly before suddenly he was in her face.

Enhanced by speed of Swiftness, the genetic freakiness of Hanma that reinforced his Intermediate Polearm Mastery, Intermediate Savoir Faire, and even Aura Farming as he stood there, Airbending the air resistance away and enhancing my speed even further, various amounts of Caryll Runes, and a little bit of Novice Blunt Weapon Mastery.

It was completely unfair when suddenly, I crossed a several meter distance, my stick swung, and just an inch or two away stopped from slamming it to her temple, a burst of wind to the face as she froze.

I gave her a more cocky smirk, "If this was the great unknown, you, sweetheart, would already be hurt, tsk tsk tsk," he lightly mocked her.

He nerve struck, she angrily picked up the stick and attempted to hit me for the scare, shaking my head "no", He redirected her blow and lightly "bonked" her in the crown of her head.

Immediately she dropped her weapon, she hissed as she clutched her head, "What are you doing!" Raising her voice to him in anger.

My smirked widened, "Your dead once again, we may be made equal, but it is clear that we are not the same~" he goaded her, one would have expected her to look at him with wrathful glare.

Instead, she blinked, startled and frankly confused over his sudden shift in behavior, "…What?" Which was…fair, over most of our existence, he was more patient, soft spoken, relaxed, and seemingly spiritual tranquil.

Quite frankly…Lilith felt inferior, she knew whenever the angels that wasn't Samuel came down for a visit, they always looked so proud and joyful with how he acted, how he learned and how he spoke and behaved without talking back and questioning, how seemingly…perfect he was at everything.

While giving her looks of concern, worry, she even at some point caught guilt in those eyes…as if they somehow messed up enough to make her imperfect, how she was flawed in comparison to their First Man..

He never demanded, he seemingly always knew the right answer, inventing concepts that she never would have considered in a million nights.

Suffice to say…she was…more befuddled with his words than feeling any amount of anger towards him.

Adam's smirk widened, a touch of unburdenced, a edge of cockiness that reflected unto his hair in prideful gold, yellow joy, and mischievousness…and if she watched closely she could see a small amount of Desaturated Teal the color showing that he felt some amount of fear…though not for himself.

Adam twirled the stick, "We may have our specialities, you are not suited for combat, you can't fight, you will coming out there will get hurt, damaged, and die without being able to do anything," as he helplessly shrugged.

Now that royally pissed Lilith off, "what?" Her eyes narrowed, and despite the fact her voice has grown softer and quieter, there was a edge to it that would have had anyone be on edge with.

Though not with Adam, he once more shrugged, "You are helpless, a damsel in distress-," he casually, with no effort blocked the stick that his companion swung at him.

It was almost comical, he was a towering figure, she was in comparison to him, an birch tree, to the largest oak one.

His muscular form had muscles on top of muscles, looked hard as stone, looked more like he was made out of marble and then colored, some may have suspected at sight that he was on some serious drugs.

Even if he allowed her to hit, she most likely wouldn't even cause him to feel a tickle…not with Thick Skin, not with Hanma, not with my skill with Intermediate Polearm Mastery and Novice Blunt Weapon Mastery, etc.

And certainly not in a combination of all those, Lilith glared at me even with our size difference, her eyes seemingly glowing, her expression blank.

"Prove me wrong~"

She paused, dropped her gaze and looked at him once again in confusion, she couldn't understand what was his game.

"Here's my proposal, I don't believe you can survive with how you are now, you will never beat me in a straight fight…so you are not to leave the garden, you are not to try to sneak out or do anything of the sort, or even talk about this again…not until you can prove to me that you can thrive, that you would be okay out there…land me a decisive, solid hit on me…and then we will talk again on the outside world…," He said, leaning on down his head to her, the smirk still on his expression, fully utilizing Dealmaker and Persuasive.

Adam tilted his head, the smile turning more gentle, "Do we have a deal?"

She stared at him for a minute, contemplating on his words, she scanned his body this time more analytically than all other times.

She knew her chances were low, Adam's body had far more mass, a form seemingly built to dominate,…but there was this burning sensation in her chest that demanded that she answered him in kind.

"I'll have you eat those words, Adam," a promise, a cold one, a look in her eyes that the Ruler of Eden recognized as competitive spirit.

He chuckled, his face got even closer, to the point his and her nose almost touched tips, "Game on, Bitch~"

Suddenly, she used her stick, and quite strongly swung at the cold ocean water, and while she was no where near as strong as him, she very much was stronger than any modern man, as a large amount of water struck Adam, where he was now soaked in salty liquid.

In his female form, deadpanning at Lilith now only slightly taller than her, while she smirked in victory of revenge, that tasted all so sweet.
