Jenifer's POV
Lorelei's tears came on cue, each sob dripping with fake anguish.
I'd only wanted to verify my suspicions, but her earlier reactions had already exposed her, even with the crucial evidence missing.
"Think destroying the evidence makes you untouchable?" My voice cut sharp through the air. "I'm calling the cops. They'll dig up everything."
I spun toward the door.
In one swift move, Lorelei snatched my hand and slammed it against her own cheek before I could pull away.
Then she crumpled to the floor like a broken doll, crocodile tears instantly flooding her eyes.
I got it immediately. Didn't need to turn around to know Reed and Romano were lurking behind us. This whole show was for their benefit.
"Jenifer, I swear I had nothing to do with Romano's kidnapping. Why can't you trust me?" Lorelei whimpered, her tears catching the light as she trembled on the cold tiles, every gesture perfectly calculated.
