The Underworld, Devil King Territory.
As the name implied, this was the territory directly under the jurisdiction of the Devil Kings and served as the heart of the Devil race within the Underworld.
There was more than one metropolis on this land. It housed Lucifaad, the old capital of the Underworld where the original Devil King Lucifer once resided, and Lilith, the capital of the current Devil faction.
Today, Lilith, as the current capital of the Devil race, spanned an area roughly the size of Tokyo. Its levels of culture and civilization were not far behind either; skyscrapers and a comprehensive network of roads could be seen everywhere, even high-speed rail trains. It was hard to imagine that this was a city located within Hell.
On this day, within the administrative center of the capital Lilith, four figures appeared one after another inside a luxurious conference room.
Their forms were slightly hazy and ethereal, clearly indicating that they were some kind of projection.
In other words, the owners of these figures had not come here in person but had cast their magical power projections to conduct a meeting.
"Thank you all for responding to my call and coming here."
The first to speak among the four was a red figure.
He had vibrant short red hair and the appearance of a handsome young man in his prime. Clad in magnificent attire, his voice was gentle, making it difficult for anyone to feel hostility toward him.
"What is it, what is it? Calling us here in such a hurry—has Heaven launched an attack or something?"
These words came from a blue figure sitting to the left of the red one.
She was the only female present. Her appearance was that of a beautiful young girl who looked out of place in such a setting, seeming even younger than Rias Gremory or Sona Sitri. Her tone was lively, far from the seriousness expected of someone in a high position; she gave off the vibe of a neighbor's daughter who had accidentally stumbled into an international summit.
"You know that's impossible, right?"
This came from a green figure sitting to the right of the red one.
He was a man with an alluring appearance, his eyes sparkling with the light of wisdom. His entire being radiated an intellectual aura. Compared to the red figure, the difference was that the former looked like an aristocrat while the latter looked like a researcher; their temperaments were vastly different.
"If Heaven really were attacking, I should have been the first to receive the news, shouldn't I?"
The last to speak was an orange figure. Unlike the previous two men, he wasn't particularly eye-catching. There was an inescapable sense of laziness in his voice, as if he were currently nodding off somewhere. Just hearing him speak made others feel a bit drowsy.
Yet, such a seemingly lazy person held the title of the Underworld's strongest strategist and was the head of the Devil race's military coordination.
With such a role, if Heaven truly came to attack the Underworld and the Devils, the owner of the orange figure would undoubtedly be the first to know.
"My apologies. I didn't want to disturb everyone since you are all busy, but this matter can be large or small. I wanted to invite everyone to discuss how to respond," the red figure said, first bowing his head in apology before continuing. "Just now, my younger sister—the next head of the Gremory House, Rias Gremory—sent a contact and brought news."
"She—Rias Gremory, Sona Sitri, and Leon Eligos—the three of them and their dependents were attacked by terrorists at Kuoh Academy in the Human World."
"The attacker was a descendant of the Trix House from the Old Devil King faction. He coordinated with other Devils from the Old Devil King faction to launch this attack, forcibly transferring them all to a divergent space."
As soon as these words were spoken, the other three figures shuddered simultaneously. Like snow on a television screen, their projections became distorted for a brief moment.
"An attack by the Old Devil King faction?!"
The green and orange figures took on serious expressions.
"How could this happen?!" The blue figure was even more panicked, jumping up and shouting in distress, "What about my Sona-chan? How is Sona-chan?!"
"Relax, she is fine," the red figure quickly reassured her. "The mastermind has been eliminated. Although most of them aren't in great condition and some suffered heavy injuries, after the mastermind was defeated, Rias and the others successfully found a way to escape the divergent space and rescued everyone in time."
"This is the detailed report that was just compiled. Please take a look."
As he spoke, the red figure seemed to transfer something via a magic circle, allowing the owners of the other three figures to receive the detailed report at their actual locations.
The report was written by Sona Sitri. Using a calm and rational format, she objectively detailed the entire process of the attack, including but not limited to the dialogue with the attacker, the structural layout of the destination they were forcibly transferred to, and the events encountered by the dependents of the three 'Kings' in different rooms.
The end of the report stated that after the mastermind was eliminated, the 'Dominator's Chamber' where the three Kings were located underwent a change. Just as pathways to the next room appeared once the trials of other rooms were passed, once the Dominator of the Dominator's Chamber was eliminated, the core controlling the entire divergent space appeared in the center of the room. A new Dominator could use the core to freely control the entire labyrinth space, including opening entrances and exits to return to the real world.
The author, Sona Sitri, placed extra emphasis on the fact that the greatest contributor to handling the Old Devil King faction's attack was Leon Eligos. It was he who alone defeated the mastermind—the Dominator of the Dominator's Chamber—and gained control of the core. After he used the core to open passages to the rooms where the dependents were located, the girls were then able to go to their respective dependents and work together to defeat the remnants.
In this battle, ninety percent of the attackers from the Old Devil King faction, including the mastermind, were collectively eliminated. The remaining ten percent were unaccounted for; perhaps they escaped, or perhaps they became lost elsewhere. The fates of the monsters and stray magicians that appeared in the labyrinth space were similar—they were mostly executed.
Afterward, the three Kings led their dependents out of the labyrinth space and returned to Kuoh Academy.
"Phew—"
After reading the report, the blue figure let out a long sigh of relief, patted her ample chest, and said, "Thank goodness, thank goodness my Sona-chan is okay. Otherwise, as her sister, I would have charged into the exile lands of the Old Devil King faction alone and wiped out every single bad Devil who hurt my Sona-chan."
These words sounded like a joke, but in reality, they were not a joke at all; it was something that could truly happen.
"Well, as long as the people are fine. Otherwise, the loss to the future of the Underworld would be too great," the orange figure returned to his lazy demeanor. "Those three are quite capable, being able to eliminate the mastermind. According to the report, the opponent was an Ultimate-class Devil with a mysterious means of empowerment, right?"
"The strength shown at the end was apparently comparable to an Ultimate-class Devil of the Cadre level," the green figure said thoughtfully. "And one person eliminated such an existence? That little fellow is indeed quite capable."
"Leon Eligos... it seems we have still underestimated his potential and ability. He is even more excellent than we imagined," the red figure praised as well. "This time, I actually owe him a favor. If it weren't for him, it would have been very difficult for Rias and Sona to overcome this trial on their own."
Upon hearing this, the blue figure seemed somewhat indignant.
"Hmph, don't think for a second that this means he can whisk my Sona-chan away! Even if it's a case of the hero saving the damsel, my Sona-chan will absolutely not fall for him that easily!"
At this point, the blue figure looked as though she were gnashing her teeth in resentment.
"Is that so?" the orange figure suddenly said with confusion. "But why did I hear that your father, the current head of the Sitri House, intends to have Sona and that little fellow of the Eligos House enter into an engagement?"
The blue figure fell silent.
"I heard that too," the green figure added from the side. "It's not surprising. The successor of the Sitri House personally destroyed her own engagement and regained her freedom, but the people of the Sitri House certainly wouldn't want to see her remain single forever."
"Nowadays, the number of pure-blooded Devils in the major Devil families has been steadily decreasing. The head of the Sitri House only has two daughters in this generation; one became a Devil King and inherited the name Leviathan, making her unable to inherit the Sitri House. That leaves Sona Sitri as the sole heir."
"If something were to happen to her, the Sitri House would be finished. They would either have to find someone from a branch family to inherit or let the bloodline die out."
"Lord Sitri must be very anxious, right? With a male of the opposite sex appearing who is quite close to the next head, he would naturally want to do his utmost to facilitate a good match."
Listening to the green figure's words, the blue figure began to tremble all over.
"It's quite like my family," the red figure sighed. "Because I inherited the name Lucifer, and Rias is the only other child in the Gremory generation, my parents were so hurried to arrange an engagement for her."
"But your family's engagement still exists and hasn't been resolved, right?" the orange figure offered a different opinion. "Moreover, although your sister is still single, you already have an heir. Your son can inherit the Gremory House just as well, so there's no need to be as anxious as the Sitri House."
"The Eligos House was once near extinction, and now there is only a single sprout left. It was the Sitri House that was responsible for sponsoring them behind the scenes. Both sides know each other's roots thoroughly; joining them together is a great blessing." The green figure nodded and smiled. "I actually quite approve of this engagement. I am very interested in that little fellow's mutation characteristic. I really want to know if he and the little princess of the Sitri House have a child, whether their child will inherit that bizarre trait."
These words were the final straw that broke the camel's back, causing the trembling blue figure to explode.
"No! Big sister does not agree!"
The blue figure raised her hands high and began to wail as if her heart were breaking.
"My Sona-chan! My cutest Sona-chan! When she was little, she always followed behind me crying for hugs! How can she suddenly get married?!"
"She's still small! She's still a child! Giving birth to someone else's baby or whatever—how can that be allowed?!"
"I don't agree! I don't agree, I don't agree!"
The blue figure collapsed onto the table, sobbing loudly, leaving the other three speechless.
Thus, the three of them tacitly ignored her and began discussing official business.
