Sensing the mote finally click, I fell backwards onto my bed.
"And that marks 100."
See, I had recently scammed my parents into getting me a tablet after getting shot down for a laptop. Between my endless energy and mature mind, I have never really stayed still, as stimulation was the name of the game. I was not destructive or anything but I think my mother was glad I had found something to focus on, even that made me turn into the dreaded iPad kid.
Finally having an internet connection that wasn't monitored like the family computer, I admit I went kind of nuts. It turns out my training ability considers studying a form of training. I feel like those sci-fi A.I. that download all the knowledge off the internet and then instantly ascend.
My first goal was languages. In my first life I sorta sucked at learning languages. A lot. Passing my high school Spanish class was not fun. So, upon finding out that I could mote a language after a few hours of effort? I went nuts. English, Spanish, Japanese, Cantonese and many more. Every major language in Europe, a few Native American languages, a dozen Asian languages, I learned them all. Then I moved onto ancient languages. Latin, Proto-Germanic, Ancient Chinese, Sanskrit, anything I could find on the internet.
It was fascinating comparing certain ancient languages with their modern counterparts, like Greek comparted to Ancient Greek.
After moting all the languages I could easily find, I branched out into non-standard languages. Sign languages, Morse code, and I even made the mistake of checking if coding counted as a language. It did. For every coding language. That caused me to spend a few months getting everything I think might be useful. Assembly, java, C, Python, Html, CSS, JavaScript, I ended up learning like 20. This lead me to end up attaining a Computer Architecture mote, which seems to be the 'base' computer skill that covers how computers work, how they are made and how to tear into their guts, both physically and coding wise. I haven't needed to touch it much yet, but having the knowledge of how humanity's greatest masterpiece works can't be a bad thing.
I also got a ton of science and math motes, which are probably my second favorite type, just below my Body motes. Math was actually just one mote, but I guess that makes sense since all math is super related. It is also super crazy, as from the Math training I can do ANY addition, subtraction, multiplication and division mentally. Not just 2 or 3 digit either, I can do 20+ digit division instantly. The mote is currently working on trig, calculus and 2D geometry, but those are going to take a while.
My knowledge motes are super thorough when it comes to the basics at the cost of learning speed. I think the only people who know more about addition than me right now are like the nerds who wrote Set Theory.
The science motes are amazing too. Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Botany, Zoology, and many more. Even looser sciences like Psychology got a mote. With the way my motes work, I was on the way to be the most knowledgeable person on the planet.
Using my tablet I manage to snag an Art mote, which covered things like drawing, painting, sculpting, and anything involving human expression. curiously it included singing, but Music was its own mote. Music covered things like music theory, playing any instrument and surprisingly modern mixing equipment and programs.
The big one was getting all these knowledge motes over the last few months finally got me my Mind mote. It was another important mote like the Body mote. Mind was also the first mote I was genuinely worried about. If my mind gets all juiced up, am I still me? Ship of Theseus and all that. I set the mote to focus on memory, memory recall and clarity of thought. I don't think those will irreversibly change me or my view of the world, and give me time to decide how I want to progress. So far my memory has become retroactively perfect back to when I first woke up in my crib, but won't go back further.
Perfect memory and instant recall have also sped up many of my knowledge motes, as they can focus on magicking up raw information, while my mind can now passively store the knowledge while perfect recall and clarity integrates the knowledge deep, freeing the knowledge motes from having to those things manually.
I managed to get my Ki under control as well. I was thankful I focused on stealth first as one day when we were getting groceries there was this older looking dude who felt like a sad lightbulb to my Lifeforce Sensing, and he really creeped me out. I just latched onto my mother and ignored him until we were done shopping, and I didn't calm down until we got home.
I cannot stress enough how icky that man felt.
[LINE BREAK]
I had recently learned more about my dad's job. He is some large local company's head of sales. This means that he travels a lot. Usually It is just day trips to clients or suppliers, which is why he would come home late and tired, but sometimes he goes international as well.
The reason this is relevant is that he just found out he was going to Kyoto, Japan to negotiate with one of the suppliers of a special electronic his company uses. Normally this would not concern me, as he has gone on similar trips, but after learning so many languages I have gained a bit of wanderlust. Before my learning spree I did not know how much a language has culture baked into it, especially as a native speaker which is what my motes learn.
It hasn't caused me any issues, but the half baked cultural knowledge has birthed a yearning to experience the real thing, instead of the faux-nostalgia that my motes cause.
Normally my Dad went by himself on these trips, but I think he was pleased when I asked if we could make it a family trip. That swiftly turned into surprise when I busted out arguments about wanting to see the cherry blossoms which were blooming at this time of year.
At first he tried to steer me away, citing that I wouldn't know the language and would get frustrated. Both my parents were gobsmacked when I admitted I had been learning 'a little bit' on my tablet. I meant to demonstrate a little bit too, but it turns out the reason my dad was chosen for the Japan trip was that he also knows Japanese, and is quite fluent at that. When we accidently slipped into actual conversation when I was showing what I knew, we both froze and stared at each other. He started howling while my poor mother was confused as she did not speak Japanese.
After that it was decided that we would go as a family a little early, and it would be a vacation while my dad deals with his work meetings.
I was extremely excited as this was my first time going outside of North America in both lives. Packing my little suitcase, learning some tourist destinations near where we are staying, and exchanging some currency, we were all set for fun family trip.
