Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: A Crime Deserving Death

Jiang Feng spent a huge sum of money, hired two women from the brothel, and had fun with them until dawn.

Then, reeking of alcohol, he headed back toward Zhenbei Prison.

On the way, Jiang Feng checked his panel stats.

Name: Jiang Feng

Fortune: 158

Cultivation Technique: Prison Guard Health Care Skill (Mastery)

Skills: Prison Guard Long Fist (Proficient)

Realm: Seventh Grade (Marrow Refining)

Divine Power: Immortality

Last night at home, after successfully killing that Ninth Grade assassin, Jiang Feng's Fortune Point jumped to 358. When saving Wang He, he used 200 to upgrade Prison Guard Long Fist from Beginner to Proficient.

One night passed.

The Fortune Point didn't change in the slightest.

This made Jiang Feng a little nervous.

Could it be that Minister Yang is still fine, and Wang He doesn't actually have any evidence?

He hesitated, wondering if he should leave at once and quickly get out of Dragon Capital.

In the end, he decided to first check Zhenbei Prison.

Just as he arrived at the prison gate, he happened to run into Uncle Huo, who came to change shift with him.

Uncle Huo smelled the alcohol on Jiang Feng and cursed with a laugh, "You're something else, I've been looking after you all these days, and you went drinking last night without calling me."

"I went to listen to music last night, wanted to ask you along, but was afraid Sister-in-law would mind."

Jiang Feng said awkwardly.

"Haha, I get it."

Uncle Huo flashed a knowing smile only men would understand.

The two entered together to change shifts.

"Deng deng deng!"

"Hey, what's up with Captain Wang?"

...

Just as Jiang Feng and Uncle Huo entered Zhenbei Prison, outside the prison, Chief Huang led a group of government officials carrying Wang He back. Behind them was a squad of soldiers, as if escorting something important.

Last night, Wang He was slashed in the back by Jiang Feng.

His calf was pierced by a cold arrow, and now, still in shock, he lay on the stretcher, nervously watching his surroundings, afraid another arrow would be shot at him at any moment.

Jiang Feng and many others saw this.

Chief Huang ordered men to carry Wang He into the prison, then ransacked Wang He's office, and finally, under the floor tiles, found a long wooden box.

Chief Huang handed the wooden box to the commander stationed outside Zhenbei Prison with his soldiers.

According to the original host's memories,

Jiang Feng recognized that these soldiers were the Forbidden Army of Dragon Capital. Normally, they would only be deployed for major events; otherwise, they'd stay inside the Imperial Palace Inner Courtyard.

That Imperial Guard Commander exuded a powerful aura, his armor weighed several hundred pounds, but he moved like a feather. His strength was likely Upper Three Grades. When his gaze swept over the crowd, everyone felt like needles were pricking their backs, trembling with fear.

Jiang Feng and Uncle Huo both kept their heads lowered,

Not daring to peek.

"Sir, the evidence is inside."

Chief Huang opened the wooden box for the Imperial Guard Commander.

The other took out a scroll from the box.

Inside the scroll was a poem

Containing some sensitive content.

"Sir, this is the evidence of Yang Qi insulting the Imperial Consort. Please see for yourself."

Wang He said.

"Whether the content inside was really written by Yang Qi will require further verification and comparison. Men, bring Lord Wang to the palace with me for audience with the Holy Emperor!"

The Commander said.

"Yes, sir!"

...

Just like that.

Wang He's party came quickly and left just as fast.

After they left,

Jiang Feng quickly checked the panel stats.

He found that the Fortune Point still hadn't changed.

But with the situation at this point,

He and Uncle Huo wouldn't be targeted anymore.

Because Yang Qi's rebellious deeds would soon be known throughout the land. Anyone wanting to topple Minister Yang would seize the chance and stir up the Royal Family's fury.

By then, even if they really did see something they weren't supposed to and Minister Yang found out, so what?

Now that everyone knew, could Minister Yang possibly kill everyone?

An hour later,

Small rumors spread from Zhenbei Prison: Minister of Revenue Yang Rusong was detained and escorted to the palace.

Jiang Feng checked his Fortune Point and found still no change.

Three hours later,

News came out,

Imperial Guard Commander Liu Shishan led a thousand men to seal the Minister's Mansion.

Jiang Feng checked his panel stats.

Name: Jiang Feng

Fortune Point: 873

Cultivation Technique: Prison Guard Health Care Skill (Mastery)

Skills: Prison Guard Long Fist (Proficient+)

Realm: Seventh Grade (Marrow Refining)

Divine Power: Immortality

"As expected, that old fox Yang wants me dead."

Seeing the Fortune Point change, Jiang Feng slapped his thigh.

His Fortune Point jumped so much at once, he could totally imagine how deadly this crisis was—enough to kill him twice over.

But even so, Jiang Feng knew things were far from over.

Because there was still no news about Minister Yang's punishment. It was possible that Minister Yang was just trying to prove his innocence right now, applying to the Royal Family to seal his mansion.

And knowing that old fox,

There was no way that the Minister's Mansion would contain evidence of Yang Qi's crimes.

Night fell.

Dragon Capital's streets and alleys began to see sheets of paper fluttering down.

Each contained a single poem.

The whole city was instantly thrown into uproar.

The news reached deep inside the Imperial Palace.

The Royal Family was enraged, and large numbers of Forbidden Guards were dispatched, sweeping through the streets at night, arresting countless people.

Jiang Feng glanced at a sheet of paper that had landed at his doorstep.

It read:

"The Imperial Consort lies wanton each day, the whole nation seeks male guests. She claims to have the king's favor, but no beauty is found for generations."

...

Jiang Feng casually tossed it into the fire.

This kind of treasonous content absolutely couldn't be kept around.

Hearing the commotion outside Chaoyang Alley,

Jiang Feng blew out his candle and fell into a deep sleep, as if knowing nothing.

The next morning,

Jiang Feng hurried to Zhenbei Prison.

He checked his stats panel again.

Name: Jiang Feng

Fortune Point: 989

Cultivation Technique: Prison Guard Health Care Skill (Mastery)

Skills: Prison Guard Long Fist (Proficient+)

Realm: Seventh Grade (Marrow Refining)

Divine Power: Immortality

It seemed that only when Minister Yang was dead would Jiang Feng be truly safe for good.

Last night, Yang Qi's poems insulting the Imperial Consort had spread all across Dragon Capital from Zhenbei Prison.

Even though the Royal Family quickly sent Forbidden Guards to seize those papers, the content written on them was long memorized by all. The more the Royal Family suppressed it, the more vividly it spread.

As Jiang Feng walked through the streets, he could hear all kinds of heated discussions about last night's events.

When he entered Zhenbei Prison,

He found that, after a single night, the number of prisoners in Zhenbei Prison had increased by four or five hundred compared to usual. All these people had either discussed Yang Qi's poem, or kept those sheets of paper at home and were caught when searched by the Imperial Guard, thrown into Zhenbei Prison.

The place was filled with cries of injustice.

Several Prison Chiefs were holding whips, beating the loudest prisoners mercilessly.

Soon, the cells grew much quieter.

Jiang Feng turned a deaf ear and went about his duties as usual.

So another two days passed.

The Court announced the punishment for Minister of Revenue, Yang Rusong.

Allowing his son to slander the Court.

Insulting the Imperial Consort.

Treason of the highest order.

The crime warrants execution!
