That evening, the three siblings boarded the train back to the Northeast. By the time they reached home, it was already noon the next day.
The autumn harvest in the village had ended, and there was basically no work left in the fields. The team leader organized the villagers to go thirty-some miles away to the mountains to chop firewood for the winter. Since it was a long journey, they spent the whole day there, with everyone bringing their own food to eat on the mountain.
All the young people in the village went, leaving only the elderly and young kids at home to watch over things.
At the Wang family, it was Wang Mu and several kids who hadn't started school yet. Wang Mu was coming out of the kitchen with a bucket of pig feed when she saw her eldest son, second son, and youngest daughter entering through the courtyard gate.
"Yuan Chun, you're back." Wang Mu put down the pig feed and happily came up to meet them, hugging Yuan Chun tightly. "My daughter, I've missed you so much."
