Swampert's mother stood speechless. She hurried over to her son and inspected him from every angle.

Chen Shi felt his stamina rapidly draining and quickly released the Key Stone.
Mega Swampert instantly returned to its normal form.
The elders fixed him with expectant looks.
Panting, Chen Shi explained:
"This stone in my hand is a Key Stone. The one your Swampert had is a Swampert Mega Stone."
"When a Trainer holds a Key Stone, and the Pokémon holds a matching Mega Stone, if they synchronize mentally, the Pokémon can temporarily Mega Evolve."
"All its stats get a huge boost."
"For example: Swampert originally had Torrent, but after Mega Evolving its Ability changed to Swift Swim."
"As you saw, it jumped from late-Elite to early Gym-tier in an instant."
"This was my first time. With practice, I'll be able to extend the Mega duration."
Grandpa's excitement burst out.
"So if I take the Key Stone and give my Swampert that Mega Stone—it can Mega Evolve too?!"
Chen Shi winced.
"This evolution drains a lot of the Trainer's stamina…"
Grandma immediately laughed.
She understood.
"Old man, don't even think about it."
"You try Mega Evolving something and your bones will be the ones cracking."
Grandpa sighed, though he wasn't angry—only thoughtful.
"I'm old, not dead. If anyone dares touch this farm, I'll tear off their claws."
Swampert's mother, after hearing the explanation, accepted the situation with a nod and patted her son proudly.
"Flaah!"
Suddenly Florges tugged on Chen Shi's sleeve, eyes blazing.
Beside her, Leafeon and Togepi also stared up hopefully—
"Mega Evolution, for us too?"
Chen Shi felt awkward.
He couldn't exactly say "Your species doesn't have one yet."
He cleared his throat.
"Mega Evolution requires a species-specific Mega Stone."
"Right now we don't have any for you."
The three drooped, disappointed but understanding.
If Chen Shi ever obtained one, he wouldn't forget them.
Chen Shi scooped up Togepi, ruffled her head, and teased:
"You haven't even reached your final evolution yet. Thinking about Mega Evolution already?"
"Chakki-doyii~!"

Togepi wriggled free, ran to Grandma, and began pointing at her forehead and wailing dramatically.
Grandma cuddled her, rubbing her head gently.
Chen Shi ignored the theatrics and turned to Swampert.
"For now, you'll train with your mother on the mountain. Don't slack off during the day. I'll check on your progress."
"Raa-chii~" Swampert nodded seriously.
Swampert's mother and Kingdra led him back toward the rear mountain.
The farm's Pokémon dispersed to their homes.
Grandpa and Grandma's Pokémon shuffled away too.
Chen Shi pouted at Togepi's dramatics, then called:
"Florges, Leafeon — let's go upstairs and sleep. Ignore that little black egg."
Florges and Leafeon followed instantly.
Togepi froze.
"This script's not right!"
Weren't they supposed to coax her? Offer ice cream? Apologize?
Why was everyone leaving?!
"Chakki-doyii~!"
She panicked and rushed after them.
The elders watched with soft smiles.
Grandma sighed and spoke seriously:
"Old man, be careful with those stones.
Shi'er's right — those are strategic resources."
Grandpa's expression turned grave.
"I'll start collecting them quietly. Don't let news of Mega Evolution leak. If people learn we have multiple Mega Stones, we'll be targeted."
"This farm already draws envy. Adding Mega Evolution will make people restless."
Grandma nodded, then asked:
"What about Shi'er? Why did you insist he travel to Sinnoh last year instead of Hoenn or Kanto?"
Grandpa's eyes dimmed slightly.
Grandma continued softly:
"We're old — what happens to us matters less.
But Shi'er is young. We can't protect him forever."
"We need to stay low-profile for a few years. Once he's stronger… it'll be different."
Grandpa thought of Dreepy's terrifying potential and nodded firmly.
Then he scolded lightly:
"That brat… comes home and already bossing me around."
Grandma chuckled and murmured with a hint of awe:

She began listing quietly:

Her voice dropped further.

Grandpa chuckled softly.
