Housekeeper Cao hurriedly put down the small teapot in his hand, muttering, "Tonight the mansion's to be sealed, the Madam's setting rules now."
He turned his head and saw Sun Accountant looking unconcerned, so he urged, "Stop dawdling, hurry up."
Sun Accountant responded absentmindedly, just as he saw Housekeeper Cao already rushing out.
By the time Sun Accountant stepped out, the front courtyard was crowded with people.
Everyone had received the notice earlier—tonight the mansion would be sealed, and it would only reopen when the smallpox patients recovered and no new cases appeared inside.
Although smallpox was deadly, the past few days had seen no new patients in the mansion; they'd been busily cleaning, sweeping, taking medicine and burning incense, so no one was overly panicked.
"Madam said lime was scattered all around the mansion, medicinal incense burned, and when gathered together we wear aprons soaked in medicine, so no need to worry too much."
