Doctor Li's heart turned cold; he knew Doctor Liu would not survive.
Xiao Dong withdrew his curious gaze, headed straight for their room, tossed the two bundles, one big and one small, onto the bed, and called, "Master, come try these clothes, see if you like them."
Doctor Li had little enthusiasm; he stopped him and asked, "What really happened today?"
Xiao Dong grinned, "I knew you'd ask, Master. It's just that Brother Qi's mother overheard something and sent me to look for Gu Shiliu. Perhaps Doctor Liu had the gate servant do something taboo."
"That's all?"
Doctor Li was suspicious.
Xiao Dong nodded vigorously, "Of course that's all. Brother Qi's mother said I'm still a child, shouldn't meddle in grown-ups' affairs—just told me to go find Gu Shiliu, and that's it."
Doctor Li frowned, pondering with effort.
Seeing no more questions, Xiao Dong jumped to the bed to rummage through the bundles.
