The servant who was seeing them off was not allowed to leave the mansion, so the luggage seemed even more excessive.
Doctor Li comforted him, saying, "Let's walk a bit further to the mouth of the alley. We can call for a couple of porters there; it will be fine."
Xiao Dong thought for a moment.
"Master, please wait here. I'll go to the end of the alley and see, maybe call a couple of people over. If there's a carriage or sedan chair, should we take it?"
Doctor Li replied, "Of course. I'm not made of iron after all. Besides, we'll need to clean up at home when we get back."
Xiao Dong put down the parcels and asked Doctor Li to watch them. Then he ran toward the end of the alley, soon returning with a burly man in tow.
Seeing the man's robust build, his short tunic, and hemp-rope sandals, Doctor Li was startled.
This was plainly a practitioner.
Doctor Li drew in a sharp breath, wondering how he could refuse him.
