Chapter 3: A Calf That Fears No Tiger — A Rank-10 Brat Sneak-Attacks a Rank-99 Ultimate Douluo

"You're saying this child has twin martial souls?"

Qian Daoliu stared at the boy in front of him—Fan Chen—who was devouring food like a starving ghost reincarnated. A faint trace of bewilderment appeared in his eyes.

He had rushed over after sensing the powerful fluctuation of Golden Crocodile Douluo's aura. After all, he was intimately familiar with his old friend's strength.

And on top of that, this old crocodile had the nerve to secretly take his granddaughter out of the Douluo Hall. Qian Daoliu had been looking for him already.

At this moment, Qian Renxue was holding a pair of chopsticks, gently feeding a piece of meat to the little white beast.

Fan Chen had named it "Xiao Bai," simply because it was snow-white from head to toe.

This little creature's true form was Bai Ze, one of the Four Sacred Beasts.

Not only that, but it was an extremely rare external manifestation-type martial soul, similar to Yu Xiaogang's Luo Sanpao.

"That's right," Golden Crocodile Douluo replied proudly. "I've checked thoroughly. It's indeed a twin martial soul. What your granddaughter is feeding is one of them. The other is a set of armor."

He gave a brief explanation, his tone brimming with smugness.

Qian Daoliu naturally sensed the bragging, but he chose not to respond.

However, when he looked at the Xiao Bai Ze, a trace of disgust flickered across his eyes.

Qian Daoliu stepped toward Qian Renxue.

Understanding instantly, she set down her chopsticks reluctantly, ready to leave with him.

But before she could move—

Xiao Bai suddenly leaped into her arms and bared its sharp little teeth at Qian Daoliu.

"Bad… guy…"

The halting but clearly intelligible human speech from the tiny creature shocked everyone present.

"Can this little thing talk?!"

"Stay away from her!"

A bone flew through the air, shooting toward Qian Daoliu like a bullet.

Qian Daoliu raised a hand and instantly crushed it to powder.

But the moment the bone shattered—

Fan Chen shot forward like lightning.

At some point, he had already donned the Reverse-Edge Demon Armor.

The black armor gleamed with ghostly blue light, exuding a chilling killing intent.

He threw a heavy punch straight toward Qian Daoliu's face.

Qian Daoliu's brow twitched—he was about to make a move when Golden Crocodile Douluo intercepted him, grabbing his arm.

His other hand pressed Fan Chen firmly to the ground.

"You brat, what are you doing?! That's her grandfather!"

"Old friend, calm down. He's just a child."

Golden Crocodile Douluo hurriedly explained.

It was obvious Fan Chen had misunderstood Qian Daoliu's intentions toward Qian Renxue, and Bai Ze had transmitted that panic directly into his head.

"His second martial soul… quite peculiar."

Qian Daoliu wasn't angry about being attacked. Instead, his eyes were full of curiosity as he studied the armor covering Fan Chen.

"Grandfather…?"

Fan Chen stared blankly at the man in front of him, who looked barely past his thirties.

He simply couldn't associate him with the word "grandfather."

But then he remembered—Title Douluo often retained their youthful appearance.

'Xiao Bai… you tricked me!'

Fan Chen hadn't expected his own martial soul to set him up like this.

He had been happily eating when Xiao Bai suddenly sent him a surge of panic, prompting him to attack without hesitation.

How was he supposed to know it would turn into such a ridiculous misunderstanding?

Sensing Fan Chen's anger, Xiao Bai immediately darted behind Qian Renxue, peeking out pitifully.

"What an intelligent little fellow… is this really a martial soul?"

Qian Daoliu swept his sleeve lightly.

A powerful suction force surged out—

And Xiao Bai, who was hiding behind Qian Renxue, was instantly sucked into his grasp.

"Let… me go… bad guy…"

This time, Xiao Bai's words were noticeably smoother, making Qian Daoliu even more fascinated.

"Grandfather!"

Seeing Xiao Bai caught in Qian Daoliu's hand, Qian Renxue panicked and cried out urgently.

"I'm not hurting this little thing—just taking a look."

Even his own granddaughter was treating him like a villain. Qian Daoliu couldn't help feeling helpless.

But in that moment of distraction—

Xiao Bai suddenly broke free from his grasp, darted straight toward Fan Chen, and vanished into his soul seal.

All four of them were stunned. Even Fan Chen was beginning to wonder whether this thing was truly a martial soul— it was way too smart.

"This… if I say I wasn't controlling it, will any of you believe me?"

Fan Chen scratched his head awkwardly, but the three of them stared at him without expression, eyes locked onto him.

"What is this martial soul called, and what abilities does it have?" Qian Daoliu asked directly, clearly intrigued.

"My martial soul is called Bai Ze. It can see through all mysteries and perceive the essence of all things…"

Seeing that Qian Daoliu didn't intend to punish him, Fan Chen explained everything he currently knew about Bai Ze.

Of course, even though it was his martial soul, many details were still unclear. Martial soul awakening only granted him limited information; he would need to explore the rest slowly.

"Bai Ze, huh? A non-offensive, purely supportive martial soul. That's extremely rare."

Qian Daoliu murmured thoughtfully.

Clearly, Bai Ze had exceeded even his vast knowledge. But martial souls came in countless forms—nothing was impossible.

Besides, he had never even heard of such a creature. He judged it to be an extremely rare mutated beast-type martial soul, similar to Yu Xiaogang's Luo Sanpao.

Beast martial souls were typically power attack or agility attack types. Even control-type beast martial souls were few, let alone pure support types.

And this one could speak human language and showed obvious intelligence—that was the truly shocking part.

A martial soul with independent intelligence was nearly unheard of. Unless the martial soul was the body itself, or a transformed soul beast.

But if Bai Ze were a soul beast incarnation, it would be impossible for Fan Chen to have a second martial soul. Moreover, it was impossible that both he and Golden Crocodile Douluo would fail to detect the aura of a soul beast.

Fan Chen's aura was purely and unmistakably human.

Qian Daoliu pondered for a long time but still couldn't figure it out.

In the end, he chalked it up to the uniqueness of Fan Chen's twin martial souls. Rare things tend to defy logic.

As for Fan Chen's other martial soul—the Reverse-Edge Demon Armor— it was a rare armor-type weapon martial soul, capable of both offense and defense, perfectly compensating for Bai Ze's lack of attack power.

"Congratulations on finding yourself a good disciple. I'll prepare a gift next time. For now, I'll take Xiao Xue back."

Qian Daoliu walked over and took Qian Renxue's hand.

Qian Renxue turned back and waved at Fan Chen. Fan Chen waved gently in return.

"We'll play together again next time!"

"Mm! See you. Oh—my name is Qian Renxue. I'm happy to meet you."

Qian Daoliu gave Fan Chen one last deep glance. A soft breeze swept through—

The grandfather and granddaughter vanished instantly.

With Qian Daoliu gone, Fan Chen finally let out the breath he'd been holding.

'Thank goodness… I was scared to death. I thought he was going to kill me. My tiny body can't take that!'

He exhaled heavily. In all of Spirit City, his teacher ranked second in power— so that meant this man was first.

"You brat, next time watch yourself and don't attack people randomly. If he actually got angry, I wouldn't be able to save you."

Golden Crocodile Douluo sighed heavily.

Within Spirit Hall, he could shield Fan Chen from anyone— except that one man.

And out of everyone in Spirit Hall, Fan Chen just had to pick that exact person to attack.

Even Golden Crocodile Douluo had nearly died from fright.

If Qian Daoliu had slapped Fan Chen to death, he wouldn't even have a place to argue. After all, Fan Chen did throw the first punch—and Golden Crocodile Douluo wasn't strong enough to stop Qian Daoliu.

"It won't happen again!"

Fan Chen apologized immediately.

When it's time to admit fault, admit fault quickly— that's how you live longer.

"You'd better not let there be a next time. But… this incident is something you can brag about for a lifetime."

A rank-10 brat attacking a rank-99 Ultimate Douluo— and surviving.

It was indeed a heaven-defying "achievement."

Though, of course, if he ever bragged about it in public, he'd probably get beaten.
