It has been three days since I last saw him. He'd said he was sick. He hadn't come to school for one of those. Early this morning he had let me know he would come to class. The wearing of winter uniform started yesterday, just in time for Tuesday's heavy rain too. As I approached our morning past the Drama Class I could hear people talking. It sounded like his best friend too.
Stopping to take a breath as my heart raced at finally meeting again after the weekend and Monday's absence. Taking a peak from the corner I happened to meet his wondering gaze. Eyebrows arching as he took a sip from his flask, he rose to his feet while making sure to swallow the contents.
A playful idea made its way to my fore-thoughts, picking my discarded backpack I quickly turned before he could catch up. Walking fast I looked to see he was closer now. Laughter escaped my lips as I ran now towards the History 'alley'.
Hiding between English class and History class I waited seated on one of the three park benches fitted into the space. The backpack on the seat I braced myself and climbed to the table's surface. The rain returned then luckily this area was roofed with waterproof mesh. So, as he turned the corner the rain would not touch him. Taking long strides, he finally stood before me. My eyes only focused on his tie. I could hear his deep rumble as his hands cupped my cheeks and lifted. When my eyes finally met his...
The rain fell hard then, and lightning stuck near illuminating the gray skies and thunder declared another storm. My arms found his waist and circled to hug him. My face burrowed into his chest as my hands formed fists unwilling to let go. Why did I feel this way? My heart ached and raced with joy of reunion. Perhaps feeling my unease, he followed suit and I felt his arms envelope me. As my nervousness settled soon spirited grip loosened, allowing for casual talk to begin.
"How was your weekend?" he asked me as he leaned close.
Would I get sick if I kissed him?
"Well, aside from the constant raining and homework, I would be safe to say I had a fantastic weekend. But. But. But," he cut me off then. The rain continued to pour buckets. My right hand found him as I pulled him closer. My legs opened to give him space to stand before me. He paused then; head cocked to onside as he gave me a pointed look before defeatedly stepping up and knitting our hands together.
"I knew there was a but somewhere there. Okay, "His lift thumb and index found my earlobe then. Making my jolt and knees instinctively close only to stop short of his waist. And his smirk said it all.
Oh, he's good at this isn't he?
"Tell me what it is you want to say"
"You weren't here yesterday. Making me write your English notes." I was cheeky. In fact, yesterday's English class had one flyer and the rest of the time we read the terms literature works.
"So, you want a reward for your hard work?"
YESSSSS!
I will not give him the satisfaction of my desperate attempts to gain rewards. "Well, if you, insist…" I dragged my words as I focused more on his lips.
Mhmmn, if only he wasn't sick.
Above me I heard him chuckle. Fixing my head still I felt him near me and then perhaps he did the unexpected. His empty left hand entered my open blazer and found the small of my back settling me from any further movement. Closing the distance, he took another step forward now he stood between my legs and from any angle this would not look good. "What are you doing?" I managed to ask. He didn't answer, instead he lifted my chin, and no sooner had he done so his forehead touched mine. My hands found his lapels and held tightly eyes wide open staring at his, he chuckled moving away he said, "Your supposed to close your eyes."
Close my eyes. As if I wanted to miss this moment!
My eyes closed anyway, instead of his forehead against mine instead his cheek found mine.my hand moving from his lapel to his nape as his left cheek moved away and soon it was his right cheek to mine. We continued with this sweet back and forth for some time before stopping, breathing heavily as we did. My eyes opening to see that his were still closed.
Tapping shoulder seemed to brake the spell and stepped out of my frame. Moving to take my backpack I dismounted from the tabletop and dusted invisible dirt from my tunic. Looking up he was waiting by the 'alley's' corner. The rain still poured though not as heavy as before. In the distance under the classrooms eves students stood hiding from the rain.
The autumn rain wouldn't ease up for a week at best. From my pockets I pulled the previously discarded gloves and began to wear them. Our homerooms were in the next teaching buildings. As we walked under the eaves he pulled his phone. A message from Zachery popped up.
Clicking the play button on the voice note his voice carried over the rain, "Aarghh, man your taking too long and it's starting to rain. 'Catch up next to your classroom."
