She sighed. "I warned you to avoid that one on purpose. Tell me, have you been feeling particularly bloodthirsty lately? Irrationally angry, violent, racing thoughts?"
"Yeah, for a bit, I guess," he said. "I really only meant to do the first one, the other two it just -"
"Well, that explains it. I should have seen this coming." She dug around in her desk for a long moment and pulled out a potion. "This is Morgan's Drought. A very powerful calming potion. Drink it, it'll help soothe your withdrawal. You'll likely need to take it for a few weeks." The lemony potion instantly settled his mind.
"What's happening to me?" he gasped, realizing now that his mind was empty that he had been fixated on negative thoughts for a while.
"All I do is talk about the negative side effects of necromancy, and you haven't ever taken a second to think about how none of them have applied to you? The continuous use of Dark magic has warped your mind permanently and it has begun to manifest. It's an addiction. You've been using Dark magic so continuously that you start to crave more and more, require more intense usage to reach that same high. Usually it's centered around strong emotions, like when you're angry. You will default to solving all your problems through cursing instead of words."
"Oh. I was already bad at that though."
"Indeed. Now, don't panic too much. This happens to all necromancers over time. Although I think combined with the stupidity of puberty will make this an unpleasant combination for you. It's very important to remember that you are not controlled by this, it is not an excuse to go around cursing children," she gave him a pointed look. "Necromancy requires a clear and level mind. You must not give in to your base urges. Your tattoos will help with this, they will keep your soul grounded, but you have to keep better control of your impulsivity. I know you despise it, but you really should try harder to learn occlumency too."
"So, I'm just going to be haunted with the urge to crucio people now?!"
"That particular yearning will fade, although never completely. It is some of the purest Dark magic there is - it does terrible things to your soul. And as you have seen, it is incredibly intoxicating. Clearly, you are more affected by it than most. I insist you avoid it in the future, Harry. No matter how much you may want to."
He nodded.
"I'm serious. I will start checking your wand if I think you have a problem. I've lost several apprentices to this madness, I will not let that happen to you as well"
He nodded again.
"As much as I hate to say this, I think your relationships will be beneficial here. Next time you decide to act like an idiot, think about how upset everyone will be when you have to explain yourself to them. Luna will be furious about this, you know. And you'd better not use Necromancer's Madness as an excuse, young man. I understand that your emotions were overwhelming - I really do, I experience these urges as well, but honestly, Harry! What the hell were you thinking? What part of lay low do you not understand? You will come up with a plan right now to fix this mess and then you will calmly and rationally act it out without failing."
"I'm sorry," he said. "I know I have to be careful, and I'm sorry I messed up but I couldn't let Luna continue to suffer, they made her cry. I didn't know I would react to the Cruciatus like that, I thought no one would know what I had done."
"Alright, forget what I just said about friendship being good. I change my mind. Look, faulty logic aside, this is not a mistake you can afford to make again, is that clear?"
"Yes, mama."
"How will you fix it?"
"Well," he thought for a moment. "There is still a couple of fourth years who bully Luna badly. I could frame them for the Cruciatus. I was going to murder them, but that would make things worse probably."
"Yeah, it would. See, that's the madness talking. Take a deep breath. Clear your mind."
"You know I can't!" Harry complained. "I have too many thoughts I don't know how to turn them off." Harry was abysmal at occlumency and mama had abandoned attempting to teach him any long ago. His mind had excellent natural defenses according to her, being "too damn annoying to sift through" that his chaotic mind kept people out. He was constantly focused on song lyrics or random inner monologues (his current was him acting out interviews where he was a famous Quidditch player) that his mind was a disjointed mess of stream-of-thought knowledge impossible to navigate. Calming that chaos was also impossible, however.
"I'll have to look into it," she sighed. "There must be something that can be done about that. Until then, how about this - you will make no decisions besides what to eat for dinner without getting the okay from someone else, is that clear?
Now, I agree we'll pin this on someone, but not two random students. If someone is spontaneously accused of being a killer, it will be suspicious as well. Dumbledore will know that the Imperius is an option if he has already seen that crucio isn't off the table. I would vastly prefer we pin this on someone with some evidence against them, fabricated or not."
"One of the teachers probably. I would say Mr. Lupin since it's always the Defense teacher who's suspicious, but he's actually nice."
"I'm not sure anyone would believe that, and you would anger Sirius if he ever found out."
"What about the Inquisitor lady, Umbridge? She's racist and a bitch."
Alabasandria considered it for a moment. Umbridge had implied that she thought corporeal punishment was acceptable. While that wasn't close enough to child torture, it might be enough to stretch it. However -
"She's a top-level Ministry worker. It would be dangerous."
"You're too scared of the Ministry," Harry argued. "They aren't a threat to us!"
"Yes, they absolutely are, idiot boy. Just because you ignore politics does not mean that I can afford to. You want the government knocking on our door demanding answers? We'd have to flee to Siberia or somewhere else and I hate the cold."
"Everyone knows she's racist and hates children, the whole class heard her tell you to beat us. No one at the school would vouch for her."
Alabasandria sighed and relented. "We need to play this extremely carefully. We need some substantial evidence of her being violent towards students. I don't care if you have to fabricate it or coerce her into it, but make it believable and make it something that could hold up in court. Until then, you will be on your best behavior, is that clear?"
