Chapter 58 - Chapter 58 God is not here, God on earth

"Mr. Jones, are you alright?"

Clark finally arrived at the scene, his eyes wide with shock as he looked at the messy ground, as if it had been bombarded by shells.

Ten minutes earlier, he and Mark had gone to Luther Manor.

After learning that something had happened at the manor, he and Mark separated to look for Peter.

When he arrived shortly after, what he saw was the messy aftermath of a great battle.

Clark quickly helped the Martian Manhunter up from the ground, "Mr. Jones, what happened? Where are Godfather and John?"

The Martian Manhunter clutched his chest, enduring his discomfort and pointing to the sky, "They're in the sky!"

Clark was instantly struck as if by lightning, and he felt terrible.

"God took both Godfather and John away?"

"No, they are fighting the Parasitic Demon in the sky. I didn't say they went to heaven."

The Martian Manhunter was a bit speechless.

"That's good."

Clark let out a long sigh, then scratched his hair, somewhat troubled, "It's a pity I can't fly."

The Martian Manhunter didn't notice Clark's distress. He looked up at the sky and frowned, saying, "After absorbing my life force, the Parasitic Demon is now incredibly powerful. Even if you two, father and son, work together, it won't be that easy."

Clark nervously asked him, "Then what should we do?"

"There's only one way: find an energy source he can't absorb."

The Martian Manhunter was extremely weak, his voice intermittent: "Here, this power station is a nuclear power station. It's temporarily shut down now, but the nuclear reactor is still reacting. Have you heard of Chernobyl, Clark?"

Clark nodded, "Godfather told me about it. It was a tragedy, and many Soviet workers sacrificed their lives."

"Yes, that's the problem caused by the reactor."

The Martian Manhunter clutched his chest and told him, "The reactor will produce Plutonium-239 by fast neutron bombardment of Uranium-238. If the Parasitic Demon absorbs Plutonium-239, this nuclear energy body, his body will reach its limit. In fact, he should already be near his limit after absorbing so much energy."

"I don't quite understand, Mr. Jones, are you suggesting we use the material produced inside the reactor against him?"

Clark looked at the Martian Manhunter in shock, "Will that cause a disaster like Chernobyl?"

"No, it won't."

The Martian Manhunter looked at the power station in front of him, "But... someone needs to enter the nuclear reactor and retrieve Plutonium-239. Are you willing to do it, Clark?"

The Martian Manhunter knew that Kryptonians would not be affected by nuclear radiation, but Clark didn't know that.

He only knew that the workers irradiated by nuclear radiation in Chernobyl had a miserable end.

Clark, whose mind was in a turmoil, immediately fell into a difficult choice.

"I... I don't know."

He took a step back, his eyes filled with fear and confusion.

"Yes, I understand, Clark. Making such a choice requires a lot of courage."

The Martian Manhunter expressed his understanding.

Taking a deep breath, he sat on the ground, allowing his physical strength to recover as quickly as possible, preparing to enter the power plant and retrieve Plutonium-239.

"Mr. Jones."

Clark, who was struggling internally, suddenly asked the Martian Manhunter, "If I die, will I be one of the 144,000 seats above?"

"What?"

Clark looked at him with hope, "Godfather once said that many people died in God's green land, but he only prepared seats for 144,000 of them. If... I die, will I be one of them?"

"No, you won't die, child."

The Martian Manhunter looked at Clark in shock; he probably guessed what Clark was thinking.

Clark exhaled, and with his decision made, much of his fear of Death disappeared.

"If... I can save Godfather and Mark, I'm willing!"

Clark continued, "Godfather said that when I make a decision, whether it's right or wrong, you and I will always lose something. I understand, Mr. Jones, please tell me how to retrieve the Plutonium-239 you mentioned."

"You... you are willing to sacrifice yourself for your family? Clark."

"Yes, I am willing."

Although Clark was a little scared, he still forced down his inner fear, "This is the price Godfather spoke of, isn't it?"

The Martian Manhunter's heart was stirred, and he looked at Clark in shock, speechless for a long time.

A Kryptonian willing to sacrifice for Earthlings?

Strength, divinity, and humanity, compassion and sacrifice...

Perhaps God is not here, Clark, will you be the God on Earth?

After remembering what the Martian Manhunter had told him, Clark rushed to the power plant's reactor at the fastest speed.

Soon, following the steps the Martian Manhunter told him, he retrieved two glowing Shimmering stones from the nuclear reactor.

The moment he touched them, an indescribable feeling spread throughout his body.

Clark pessimistically thought he was going to die soon.

But the battle wasn't over yet, and he couldn't show weakness now.

Clark forcibly suppressed the urge to cry and quickly left the power plant with the two pieces of Plutonium-239.

"Bang!"

As soon as he left the power plant, he saw a scene that pleasantly surprised him: Mark landed on the ground, holding Peter.

The next second, the smile on Clark's face disappeared.

The Parasitic Demon also fell from a high altitude and was about to attack Peter and Mark.

Clark glanced at the Plutonium-239 in his hand and subconsciously shouted, "Hey!"

The Parasitic Demon turned around in astonishment, only to see Clark with his hands behind his back.

Peter didn't expect Clark to be at the scene too.

"Clark, why are you here too?"

"Because I want to protect you, Godfather."

Clark took a deep breath, a determined expression on his young face, "Parasitic Demon, come on, if you want to harm my family, you'll have to get past me first."

The Parasitic Demon, provoked by him, roared and abruptly changed direction, leaping towards him.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The Parasitic Demon's legs shook the ground, approaching him with incredible speed.

Facing the terrifying Parasitic Demon, Clark tried to remain calm. The moment the opponent reached for his arm, he suddenly brought his hands from behind to the front.

As the Parasitic Demon grabbed Clark's hands, he also grasped the two pieces of Plutonium-239 in his hands.

Originally, he wanted to absorb Clark's life force, but unexpectedly, he absorbed the Plutonium-239 energy instead.

Vast and enormous energy, as well as radiation waves powerful enough to cause an ordinary person's body to collapse, instantly burst forth, with purple, lightning-like arcs surrounding the two of them.

A scorching light, as if capable of completely obscuring the night, spilled out from where the two made contact.

Accompanied by strong winds and lightning, Clark looked up, enduring the pain, at the Parasitic Demon, who was letting out painful roars.

"I'm very... sorry!"
