Rocket Raccoon asked in confusion, "Harry, you were caught in the laser field too, so why are you fine?"
Harry glanced at the drones circling around him and smiled. "It's a very crude way of using energy. You just cancel it out with the same frequency."
Rocket Raccoon fell silent.
Harry had been so mild-mannered earlier that Rocket had almost forgotten he was dealing with a true powerhouse. This was a man who could smash a spaceship apart with his own body.
At that moment, several ships descended from the sky and surrounded Harry and the others.
One Black captain spoke through a loudspeaker. "Test Subject 89P13, put down your weapon! In the name of the Nova Corps, you are under arrest. You are charged with endangering public safety!"
A sharp ring suddenly sounded from the communicator inside the ship, and Nova Corps captain Rhomann Dey heard one of his subordinates say, "Wait, Captain, something seems off. One of these criminals wasn't restrained by the containment beam at all. He can still move freely!"
Dey froze for a second. "What happened? Did the containment beam malfunction?"
His subordinate hesitated, then said uncertainly, "No, Captain Dey. Our scans show the containment beam is functioning normally. I suspect... that person used his own power to forcibly break free of it, just like Ronan once did."
"Ronan..." Hearing the name of that infamous figure who shared his own name, Dey's expression turned complicated.
Ronan the Accuser was one of the Kree's most powerful beings, appointed by the Supreme Intelligence as the Supreme Accuser. His family had been killed during the Kree-Nova War, so he refused to accept the peace treaty between the Empire and Xandar's Nova Corps. Instead, he set out to commit genocide against the Xandarians, making him one of Xandar's most dangerous enemies.
Ronan was terrifyingly strong. He could destroy dozens of Nova ships by himself, a living weapon in humanoid form. If the man below truly possessed power on that level, then ignoring the containment beam was entirely possible.
But...
Could their luck really be that bad?
Could some random criminal they ran into actually be as strong as Ronan?
Dey had serious doubts. He immediately ordered reinforcements, calling in dozens of ships to encircle the suspects, then looked at the criminal who had remained unaffected by the containment beam and spoke in a probing tone.
"Hello there, unknown powerhouse. Who are you, and why are you causing trouble on Xandar?"
Harry smiled and explained, "Sorry, but Rocket, Groot, and I weren't the ones disrupting public order. Maybe you should arrest Star-Lord and the green woman instead."
If someone had broken the law on Xandar, then naturally Xandar's laws should apply. Harry had no problem with that.
But Dey clearly had no intention of letting Harry go so easily. This was someone who might be on Ronan's level, a mysterious powerhouse who had slipped onto Xandar without anyone noticing. Who knew what his real purpose was? Better to seize him first and sort out the details later.
When the reinforcements arrived and dozens of ships surrounded Harry and the others in layers, Dey finally felt the situation was under control. He looked at Harry and ordered, "Unknown powerhouse, I'll repeat myself. You have violated Xandarian law. Surrender immediately."
Seeing this, Harry understood exactly what the Xandarians were thinking. He shrugged. He had given them a chance, and if they refused to take it, then they could hardly blame him for bullying the little guys.
When Dey saw that even after his final warning this mysterious powerhouse still refused to submit, and instead looked up at them with open provocation, he immediately grew irritated.
Seriously? Did this guy really think he could take on dozens of ships by himself? Couldn't he read the situation at all?
Dey had no intention of indulging this mysterious powerhouse. Not just anyone could run wild on Xandar. If they allowed that, the whole planet would descend into chaos.
So he gave the order without hesitation. "Attack. If the containment beams don't work, then we'll restrain him physically!"
The moment Dey gave the order, a mass of metallic cables shot down from beneath the surrounding ships.
As long as those cables wrapped around a living target, they could unleash a high-voltage current powerful enough to drop not just a human, but even a monster dozens of meters tall.
But very soon, Dey's understanding of the situation was turned completely upside down.
Harry, of course, had already noticed the ships surrounding him and knew they were about to attack, but he didn't care in the slightest.
Rocket Raccoon and the others, however, were nowhere near as calm. Star-Lord, who barely knew Harry at all, blurted out, "Hey, who are you trying to impress? Just surrender already! If these ships open fire, we're dead!"
Even Rocket Raccoon and Groot, who had seen Harry fight before, looked worried. Rocket asked, "Harry, are you sure you can handle dozens of ships? If not, just surrender. Even if they lock us up, I can still figure out a way to break you out!"
Ironically, the one who trusted Harry the most was Gamora.
At first, she hadn't paid much attention to him. It was only after she saw him stop Star-Lord that she truly noticed his presence.
The very instant she saw him, she was drawn in.
Not because of his looks, of course. She and Harry weren't even the same species, so their standards of beauty were completely different.
What caught her attention was the faint lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
As Thanos's adopted daughter, Gamora had always known his ultimate ambition, collecting the six Infinity Stones that had existed since the birth of the universe.
According to the information gathered by Thanos's forces, more than half of the Infinity Stones in the universe were now located on a backwater planet called Earth.
Back then, Earth had been protected by Odin and the Sorcerer Supreme, so Thanos had never dared go there to seize the stones.
But now, Odin was old and no longer able to act freely.
The Sorcerer Supreme had died for reasons unknown.
For a time, Gamora had been deeply worried that Thanos would take advantage of Earth's weakened defenses and send his forces to seize the Infinity Stones directly. Yet to her surprise, Thanos had shown no intention of doing that.
Eventually, her curiosity got the better of her, and relying on the fact that Thanos favored her, she asked, "Father, why don't you invade Earth? Now that the Sorcerer Supreme is dead, Earth has no way to resist anymore."
That was the first time she had ever seen her imposing father's expression turn so ugly. He stared at her with unusual severity and said, "Never underestimate that planet called Earth. The Sorcerer Supreme may be dead, but there is something on Earth far more terrifying."
"Wh, who?"
"The new Sorcerer Supreme, Harry Potter, the Destroyer of Hell, the Godslayer, an utterly ordinary multiversal-level powerhouse.
Someone that strong... even I am no match for him."
Thanos had looked deeply shaken and utterly dejected.
It was the first time Gamora had ever seen her father show weakness before an enemy, and from the many titles he had listed, she understood just how horrifying Harry Potter was.
From that moment on, she became intensely curious about him and quietly began collecting information on Harry Potter.
The more she learned, the more alarmed she became.
She couldn't understand how a being like this could possibly exist.
He looked like nothing more than an ordinary human, yet inside him was enough power to destroy an entire universe.
After learning how terrifying Harry Potter was, she had etched his features into her memory.
And among all of them, one stood out the most, the faint lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
And now, the Earth-looking man standing right beside her had that exact same faint scar on his forehead.
Could it be...
Was he the legendary Godslayer, Harry Potter?!
The moment that thought crossed her mind, Gamora tensed immediately.
Standing beside her was a man whose full strength could destroy worlds. No one could possibly ignore that.
Her mind raced, and after reviewing everything, she realized that aside from fighting that raccoon earlier, she hadn't offended Harry at all. Only then did she finally breathe a little easier.
At the same time, she was filled with anticipation. With dozens of ships here, she ought to be able to witness at least a glimpse of Harry's true power.
Harry paid no attention to the panic of his companions. As the many high-strength alloy cables shot toward him at incredible speed, he simply snapped his fingers lightly and said in an even tone, "There are no attack devices here."
At first, no one understood what that meant. Star-Lord had even been about to mock him.
But in the next instant, everything around them changed completely.
Guns, ship-mounted weapons, grenades, every kind of offensive equipment instantly turned into black ash.
Panic erupted immediately.
When Star-Lord saw the beloved pulse blaster at his hip crumble to ash, he let out a wail. "No! My beautiful blaster! I can't live without you!"
Rocket Raccoon looked at the vanished pulse rifle on his waist and didn't feel nearly as heartbroken. He could rebuild that kind of gun from spare parts anytime, and it wasn't expensive.
Harry's ability was what mattered to him.
Sure enough, Harry really was the biggest ace they had.
With Rocket's intelligence, it was easy for him to understand what Harry had just done.
This was rule manipulation, no question about it.
Unlike Rocket, the members of the Nova Corps were also deeply shaken, but not with excitement.
With fear.
What kind of method was this? With a single sentence, he had stripped dozens of ships of all offensive capability.
And that was only because he had said there could be no attack devices here. If he changed it to there are no Nova ships here, then wouldn't dozens of warships built at enormous cost be destroyed on the spot?
Even worse, if he said there are no Nova Corps soldiers here, would every soldier present be erased in an instant?
And as the commanding officer of the Nova Corps, Dey thought even further ahead.
If he could make combat weapons disappear with a single sentence, then could he also create weapons far more powerful than anything in the Nova Corps just as easily?
And more terrifying still, could he permanently alter the rules themselves?
