Chapter 81 - Chapter 80: Bran's Recovery

"Old man, do you know the forging technique for valyrian steel swords?" Mufasa's spirits lifted.

"When I was young, I traveled to Volantis, Braavos, and Qohor, and there I learned an incomplete forging technique for valyrian steel swords."

"However, I believe that with you, Mufasa, we can revive the glory of valyrian steel swords."

"You have the Charcoal Fire Dragon Colt which can breathe fire like a dragon, and you've learned magic from the lord of light's priestess. With the forging technique I'll pass on to you, we can recreate valyrian steel swords."

Mufasa learned the forging technique from him, combined with the magic he learned from Melisandre, and Little Fire's ability to breathe fire.

Mufasa conducted experiments: using ordinary steel, enhanced with magic and dragonflame, and applying special forging techniques, he could indeed forge valyrian steel swords.

However, it was time-consuming and laborious. If using existing valyrian steel, it would just need to be melted down and reforged.

Later, Mufasa felt that was too wasteful. To destroy a perfectly good large gate just like that?

If that valyrian steel gate were installed in front of the Bloody Gate, perhaps it could halt the advance of the wight army, and a counter-attack in the Vale might be quite effective.

Returning to the present.

Mufasa said to Yohn Royce.

"In a month, Lord Earl, you can come here to collect a valyrian steel sword, but I won't give it to you for free. I want a set of bronze armor from your family in exchange, how about it?" Mufasa said.

"Agreed!" Yohn Royce said.

Their family had a lot of bronze armor; he wore one set, his two sons wore one each, and there were many more sets in the storeroom. Perhaps if Waymar Royce had worn a set of bronze armor when he went Beyond the Wall, he wouldn't have died. It was a pity he didn't.

After Yohn Royce and his men left, Mufasa rode his Charcoal Fire Dragon Colt to the North Sea Kindergarten. Gendry had set up his blacksmith shop here. Besides training the children, he also did some blacksmithing for the nearby villagers.

Not far away, in the living quarters Mufasa built for the thousand Unsullied, they would also come to Gendry for repairs when their weapons broke.

These thousand Unsullied were considered Mufasa's private army, and Mufasa trusted them more than the Red Cloaks of House Lannister.

However, Mufasa didn't often use the Unsullied; while they were good for fighting, they weren't suitable for other tasks.

The reason the Unsullied lived outside the city was also a rule. Someone like Renly, as King Robert's younger brother, didn't even have a hundred personal guards in King's Landing.

In the original story, after Robert's death, Renly told Eddard Stark, "Give me an hour, and I will gather a hundred soldiers. We will then seize Joffrey and stabilize the court. Cersei must not be allowed to take him away."

It's likely that the hundred soldiers Renly wanted to gather weren't all his own men, but included at least some of Ser Loras's men.

"Gendry! Let them rest today! We're going to forge a valyrian steel sword, and while we're at it, I'll enchant your Damascus steel knife." Mufasa said.

Mufasa had told Gendry long ago that his knife was not a valyrian steel sword and had no magical effects.

So Gendry told Babalu and the others to practice on their own, and he followed Mufasa to the blacksmith shop.

Little Fire breathed a puff of flame, igniting the coal in the furnace. Gendry placed his knife inside, and as the flames roasted it, the blade turned red-hot.

"Ser Mufasa, could you turn this knife into a hammer for me? I still prefer using a hammer." Gendry said.

"Yes, you can! But do you want to add some iron? Once I start chanting the spell, I can't stop." Mufasa said.

Gendry took two more swords and threw them in.

The three weapons were also burned red-hot by the fire.

Mufasa used magic to fuse them into one.

"Flame Enchantment! All evil disperse!"

"Cold blade, fiery heart!"

"Evil things, do not touch!"

"Touch and die, bones to dust!"

When Mufasa took out the fused weapon, which no longer looked like a knife or a sword, Gendry and Mufasa began hammering it together. The iron hammers fell, making clanging sounds.

Four conditions are required to obtain a valyrian steel sword.

First, steel material: easy to obtain. The steel is ordinary steel.

Second, magic: not easy to obtain. Ordinary blacksmiths do not double as mages and do not possess magic.

Third, dragonflame: not easy to obtain. Ordinary blacksmiths do not double as Dragon Riders and do not have dragons.

Fourth, special forging techniques: not easy to obtain. Only with the blessing of magic and dragonflame, combined with special forging techniques, can a true valyrian steel sword be crafted.

Mufasa and Gendry worked for a day and a night, during which Cosette brought them water and food.

The next morning, an iron hammer was completed, but it would be a long time before it could be held in someone's hand.

The Charcoal Fire Dragon Colt needed to continuously breathe fire onto the hammer, once every hour, for seven days. Only then was a valyrian steel hammer considered properly forged.

Gendry was overjoyed to receive such a divine artifact. He wielded it in the courtyard, like a god of hammers descended to earth. It whistled through the air, and explosive sounds echoed.

"Gendry's strength has increased even more recently! It seems lifting weights really is the best way to train strength!" Mufasa thought.

Afterward, they spent another seven or eight days forging a valyrian steel sword. Mufasa reserved the naming rights for this sword, deciding to leave it to Yohn Royce.

There was still half a month until the agreed-upon month. Mufasa began alchemy again. He had been busy forging iron earlier, so he had forgotten about Margaery taking the statues of the seven.

Margaery gnashed her teeth in anger when Mufasa hadn't come to find her after half a month.

"Hmph, hateful Mufasa, where did you run off to? I went to The Red Keep to find you, but you weren't there."

Margaery was throwing a tantrum in her home, fiercely tormenting her little Bambi doll, pulling its ears and tugging its arms.

During this time, Bran finally stood up again, walking on the ground by himself under the shocked and emotional gazes of the Stark family.

"That's great, Bran, you're finally standing up!" Arya laughed.

"Congratulations, Bran!" Sansa said demurely.

"My child!" Catelyn hugged him, bursting into tears. Who knew what she had gone through these past three months.

Eddard Stark also showed a long-lost smile.

"Bran, don't climb towers anymore! Especially ruined towers!"

"We should hold a feast to celebrate Bran's new lease on life!" Arya said.

"Yes, yes, yes, we must invite Mufasa as a guest!" Sansa said.

"Exactly, I need to thank him. If it weren't for his black jade balm, I would have been miserable!" Bran laughed.
