The overhead bulb flickered dully,
The sounds of rapid typing echoed in the small apartment
The reflection of the laptops screen illuminating the facial outline of ayoung woman early twenties, a fresh graduate of Tsingua university
Her hair rolled up in a messy bun, her brows wild and untamed with a wild fire in her brown eyes
Her fingers danced around the keyboards keys illuminating a line of codes and words
"Urge!" She groaned slamming the keyboard keys hard, her free hand running through her hair in frustration
"he crashed it all again!" She groaned as she picked her cup of already made instant noodles, half eaten and took a big slurp
Her boss's words lingered in her mind
"This is your last opportunity Li hua, maybe if you can please Ms chuyunyi more...… maybe, just maybe we can push your works to the front"
This words rang in her mind like a mantra
Damn she wasn't atheist
But it sounded more like a monk's preaching
"You're still worked up over, Chuyunyi?" Her best friend and ally
Xi xiaoyan
Couldn't help asking, compared to Li hua who looked a total mess
Messy hair, a messy apartment with a pile of dirty clothes on all ends, empty paper wrappers, empty cans of soda's and soju
Even the cloth she wore reaked of sweat and something stale
Xi xiaoyan on the other hand was more put together, made up, dressed to the nines in branded clothes that could leave Li hua bankrupt
"I already advised you to become an internet celebrity but you continue declining, it's easier to make money and less stressful….. plus you get to meet people" Xi xiaoyan shrugged
Sometimes she couldn't fanthom what went on in her friends brain or how this friend of hers thought
Li hua was known for making rash decisions, just like in her high school finals, she had unceremoniously taken a year off to learn a craft
Not just any craft, she had ventured into Buddhism proclaiming
She had been called to be a devote
That wasn't even the worst part
Joining a provincial art competition just because, her teacher had called her lines
Smooth!
Just smooth
And then during the college entrance exams
Everyone found out
Li Hua, was intending to study
Mortality and existence
Life and death!
"If I can't even prove myself what's the 4 years spent in school all for?" Li hua grunted as she adjusted her glasses which fell below her nose bridge, every two seconds
"What have you achieved in this four years? Well if you exclude the three years you spent venturing into different impulses, you've spend almost 8 years in Tsingua" Xi xiaoyan shrugged
"Are you my friend or my foe?" Li hua raised a brow, not displeased however she was amused
"Your whole apartment stinks, maybe when you do a little bit of clean Mo yuhan would give you a glance" Xi xiaoyan mocked
"I already told you…. I do not like him" Li hua grunted as she reluctantly stood up and begun to clean up
"You said you didn't like him and I'm supposed to take it that you didn't like him? You turn red around him you know
You can barely even form a straight sentence when he's around and when he smiles
You smile so widely you look like a fool, even I am ashamed of you"
" You're the one who think I like him, I simply find him amusing" Li hua shrugged as she seriously begin to clean up
"He's interesting you now? Says someone who doesn't know about love yet! What you feeling is love pure unrequited love" Xi xiaoyan added dramatically twirling around for after effects
"Is that why you keep changing boyfriends every other week?" She couldn't help raising a brow in curiosity
"Zhang Li hua!" Xi xiaoyan's shout echoed through the neighborhood
~
The next morning Li hua was woken up by the darn alarm clock
"That's my alarm clock, you're late... again!" At Xi xiaoyan, Li hua hurriedly jumped out of bed and sprinted to the bathroom
Her bath took less than 10 minutes and once she was done she threw on her pants and top casually
The only clean piece she could find as the others had been washed and hung last night
Her hair was a mess but she had no such time to handle it hence she made it all into a tight bun and packed her bags
"Be careful on the way" Xi xiaoyan giggled, watching Li hua run around the house, when she was late for work Was exciting for her
Li hua on the other hand shot her a glare and ran off as fast as she could after grabbing a piece of bread from the table
She ran as her legs could carry her, silently praying and hoping she wouldn't miss the 8am bus
Cause that was the last bus heading to her destination
"You're late again Li hua" she could already picture her boss yelling so much his face reddened and his veins budged
And chuyunyi reveling in her misfortune, looking all gentle, kind and sweet
Damn second generation brat
Just because her dad was an investor
Unknowingly Li hua burst into laughter, a genuine kind that shook her core
The passerby's couldn't help giving her weird glances thinking she was crazy
"Why am I even so anxious? They haven't paid me my full salary in the past two months!
It's always one mistake or the other making them cut my salary by half, giving me only a third monthly! How am I supposed to survive
I Zhang Li hua isn't built for the corporate world, working like an ox only to eat like an ant! I could even become a farmer or the emperor of Tang Dynasty and you all will call me daddy" she spread her hands dramatically while laughing loudly
However the honks of the bus pulled her out of her reverie and she dashed forward widely
"Wait… wait! Wait!!!! I'm late for work alright! I need to get to work! My work is supposed to be presented to the higher ups
Stop that bus! You…. You…. You stop staring and stop the bus" she screamed panting heavily as she ran
But the bus didn't stop only disappearing further till she could see nothing again
Li hua plopped down dramatically glaring hatefully into the distance whilst panting heavily
"My name would have been saved in the ancient scriptures and told to generations to come!" She sighed
However before she could lift herself off the floor
She was crushed by a truck, which had a failing break, her body was thrown into the air and slammed heavily into the concrete floor creating a slight death
"Is this how what death feels like"
A small smile graced her lips watching the onlookers moving frantically over her body
She could hear the sirens of the ambulance
And then she heard nothing.
