A week has passed
An explosion that became a sign of an impending apocalypse.
The world had not ended in a single moment, yet it manage to put the world in a brink of extinction, the chaos it sows leaving destruction as it passes by, followed by sooth as it's fall from the sky, temperature drops as there is no longer living creature to heat up the world, the zombie claim lot of lives yet nuclear claims the world, humanity hubris makes the world stop and without a world to destroyed they turned on each other. With each breath turning sharper, colder so do human heart.
To be claimed by the creature that no longer breathing or consumed by nature.
And yet, somehow... here we are, still breathing, scratching the ground and fight just to live for another day.
But for what purpose?
"Oii Stella, what are you doing? Let's go"
"Where? Oh... right...."
Today, mark the third time the group ventured outside again, after hiding in the basement for three days and two suffocating nights. They couldn't take it anymore despite the risk from radiation, zombies even other survivors, That two days underground is enough to drive them insane.
Anything is better than rotting underground.
Yet it doesn't mean they make a bad choice as on the first day out, they encountered a survivors from the apartment across the street. As pre-rule of an apocalypse they both are wary of each other but as they start talking they decide to join together, as it's always better to be in a group rather than alone.
"Are you sure you will be alright once we leave you" Rin asked.
"n-no...no, we will be alright. Really. trust us, we can guard the house"
"yeah, yeah. Just stay safe out there and don't worry about us"
Reality struck Rin's group hard. The two survivors they'd adopted turned out to be a burdens, a lazy, coward and spoiled people that devours their supplies while giving zero contribution to the group.
"Rin, let's move. The sun is about to set"
"Got it"
"See-ya"
"Good bye, Rin"
The two women stood by the door, watching as Rin's group walk away, disappeared. Only then they lock the door.
Silenced filled the apartment.
"Finally!! Freedom!!! Give me BBQ flavor chips!"
"Sure, I will take this banana chips then"
They tore the chips open, carefree just like their clumsy way of eating, the world outside didn't exist for them, no plan, no worries and no guilt. Just like all the chips that fall they just swept it under the rug.
At first, they tried to fit in with Rin's group. But over time, they revealed their true nature—lazy, coward and unwilling to risk anything.
They choose comfort over survival.
Meanwhile-
"So, what's the game plan?" Gina asked, they don't really have a plan each time they went out, just a general direction, the first outing get them two parasite while the second outing they went to convention store which led them to a zombie police.
"To get more weapons, obviously" Rin answer with a grin, she show off her newly acquired gun.
"Yeah... stop waving that gun, it's dangerous" Chloe protest.
"What are you so afraid off" Rin tease
Rin aim the gun at her temple and pull the trigger, the gun make a click sounds as it fires an empty chamber, only to reveal that the gun has the safety on.
"I know stop playing with that gun, whose idea is it to give her a gun?" Gina chimed in, stopping Rin and Chloe banter as they are starting to leave their usual hunting ground.
"Well, I'm the only one with experience of using a gun in here, anyway I was thinking to check outdoor supply store down this road"
Their destination, an outdoor supply store. Owned by one of their old classmate, located down the street close to their university.
At this point they already went to uncharted territory, once familiar road where they often used when they go to university, now littered with debris, a road once filled with human now it's devoid of lives, an eerie silent where they can't even hear any zombies.
The group becomes more wary as they can find more and more body pieces. A cut on the corpse body can tell a lot of stories, this one show that it was being cut by a sharp object, yet it's not all that happen, the closer they are the cleaner the cut as if a samurai checking their new katana on random passerby.
Something was wrong.
Too quiet, their guts feeling told them it's dangerous to keep moving and the group decide to stop moving as an ominous feeling start creeping in, they stopped to find a place to rest.
"Run!!!"
A sudden scream shattered the silence.
Rin froze, her body tensing as she scanned her surroundings. The voice came from behind and they can feel a heavy rhythmic getting closer. But a building blocking their view, the sounds come from just around the corner.
Then they felt it.
Vibrations. How heavy an object needs to be to make a small vibration from far away.
They are doom, on the front an unknown monster that cut corpse into pieces and from behind a giant monster closing in.
The ground began to tremble.
They ran out of time, without hesitation, Rin signaled the group to hide, they slipped into a nearby building searching for shelter.
