Chapter 1 - The start

Tokyo Jujutsu High.

"Over the past months, the disappearance of countless people has risen exponentially, and we have yet to uncover a trail." The grave voice of a middle–aged man sounded, one who wore a black jacket, pants, and shoes.

He had short, spiky brown hair on top with the rest of his head shaved, and sunglasses covering his eyes.

This was Yaga Masamichi, the principal of Jujutsu High.

"Well, we can do nothing at the moment since our perpetrator is good at erasing his trail."

A carefree voice sounded from the one sitting in front of Yaga.

He had white hair pushed back into a spikier style, due to the black blindfold covering his eyes. He wore a dark blue jacket with a high collar, with matching pants and shoes.

"During your small investigation, did you really not uncover at least something that could give us a hint on who we are dealing with?" Yaga questioned lightly. He was skeptical if Gojo was keeping things to himself, as he always does.

Normally, Yaga wouldn't put such serious attention into anything that didn't require him to, but this case was different. Multiple reports of simultaneous disappearances of civilians had surfaced, and they had yet to identify the doer.

"Hmm, I did find something, but it would still not lead us anywhere." Gojo said flatly as he crossed his arms.

"And that is?" Yaga perked his ears as he listened.

"It was a small trail of cursed energy that, for some reason, only I could pick up." Gojo clarified. "And that type of energy belonged to an unknown cursed spirit."

'So it was not a cursed user.' Yaga narrowed his eyes. It seemed the one they were hunting was not a human but a cursed spirit, a spirit that should be a special grade considering how cautious it moved, which Gojo was surely aware of as well.

"But what do you mean only you could pick it up?" Yaga asked. From Gojo's words, it seemed whatever that cursed spirit left behind was specifically for Gojo.

"That cursed spirit seems to be aware of who I am, and what I can do." Gojo shrugged lightly. "And what confirmed it was that the only way I could pick up that trail was with my eyes." He continued, pointing his finger at his blindfold.

The functions of the Six Eyes, Gojo knew best. And that trail was purposely left in a form only his eyes should be able to perceive.

It was more like a provocation, which only made Gojo more interested in who it could possibly be.

"Well, I'll be off then." Gojo smiled as he stood up from the couch and stretched his arms. "All this thinking is making me hungry."

He turned around and walked away, leaving Yaga alone with his thoughts.

"Human anatomy sure is something worth studying."

A cheerful, yet sadistic voice echoed through an empty, dim warehouse.

The solid floor that was once dark stone and polished was now dark red.

"Finally, my creation has succeeded." Mahito clapped his hands in excitement. He looked at the bare human body in front of him, which was laid on a table and held the same exact features as himself, and he couldn't help but smile in satisfaction.

A year had passed since he came to this world, or to be more precise, reincarnated into it.

Previously, he was just an ordinary person with no extraordinary achievements in life. What differed him from others was his complex questions and thoughts.

After he died, he reincarnated into this world. A fictional world he knew from his previous life, Jujutsu Kaisen.

A world filled with cursed spirits and sorcerers. Cursed spirits manifested from the negative emotions of humans, and sorcerers were responsible for their exorcism.

And the one he had reincarnated as was Mahito.

A special grade cursed spirit known for his immature behavior and sadistic nature.

Since manifesting here, creative ideas had never stopped emerging from his soul.

And the first achievement he completed was now resting in front of him. His perfect creation, something he succeeded in thanks to his high understanding of the soul. The first step toward true transcendence.

"Let's start the fusion." Mahito muttered as he placed his hand on the chest of the body.

Purple cursed energy flowed from his hands, covering the entire body as well as Mahito himself.

"Idle Transfiguration."

The next moment, a small black cocoon formed around Mahito and the body. Inside, Mahito's whole body was shrinking. His soul, the source of his existence and what defined his identity was slowly shifting and merging into the new host that contained everything required for a successful fusion. His cursed energy acted as the bridge for the process.

Outside the black cocoon, in the warehouse, countless semi–grade two curses of different shapes and sizes manifested from the immense negative energy the cocoon emitted.

This negative energy came from the unusable human souls Mahito had stored within him.

After a minute or so, the dark cocoon dissipated, revealing only the naked body laying on the table.

Slowly, the closed eyes opened, revealing two distinct colors, the left dark blue, the right gray. He had long grayish–blue hair that draped down beneath his neck. The patchwork on his face and the stitches that once covered his entire body were gone.

"The feeling of flesh is really different from a spiritual one." Mahito said as he sat up straight. The feeling of being human wasn't different from the one he remembered in his previous life, but he could clearly feel how different it was compared to a spiritual form.

'Amazing! This power coursing through me is exhilarating!' He clenched his fists, feeling the newfound strength he now had access to, along with the abundant cursed energy flowing within.

His very state of existence had altered. Instead of being a cursed spirit, he was now half spirit and half human.

The only reason he thought of creating a body in the first place, was because he didn't want to remain a full cursed spirit, invisible to normal humans, only seen by sorcerers. He also wanted to regain the biological functions of a male body.

But this body, the one Mahito was currently in, was something he biologically modified beyond comprehension.

"Well then. Time to set off." Mahito jumped off the table and picked up the clothes on the ground, the ones his previous body wore and started putting them on.

Once he was done, he looked toward the cursed spirits that were staring at him, frozen in place for some reason.

"You guys are free to wreak some havoc." He laughed as he made his way out of the warehouse.

And once he stepped outside, the immobilized cursed spirits suddenly regained movement and spiraled out of the warehouse into the city.
