I could tell right away that she didn't believe me, but what did that matter to me? I was making conversation that would paint us in a better light.
If we are just people that fix up cars, we may end up getting looked down on. But, If we also design new car parts and potentially make significant amounts of money. Then we get a sort of armor to protect ourselves and our pride.
It could be seen as shallow or nonsensical. Because why would you worry about that? But, I am a real person, I am going to feel things when insulted.
Not sad, but indignant or pissed that someone would look down on me.
As for that other guy from yesterday? He was so corny that I really couldn't be bothered. But, ordinarily I would have been perturbed.
Then Layla spoke up, "Well, we have developed past what the current market has just released, and they are new parts that don't have a previous patent. So, technically we could just design our own car. But, we don't have the capital to start a project that large."
Aerial, "Well, that is commendable. I am an Air Force pilot, but the way I can afford these toys is because my family works in weapon development and manufacturing for the government. So, I can say with certainty that the weapons the military has access to are way more advanced than what the public is aware of."
Me, "How many generations would you say? I was guessing two."
Aerial, "It's closer to four. Mainly depending on how quickly the major manufacturers release new designs."
Layla, "Then how far ahead are actual major corporations?"
Aerial, "Maybe a generation and a half. They usually just trickle new technology out to play the market. They aren't going to show their full hand afterall."
Me, "Huh, well my designs have reached two generations. How about you?"
Layla, "Maybe a half generation, if I'm lucky."
Me, "Well, you design new parts from scratch, while I just improve what already exists. Which might I remind you is not marketable. While yours are a brand new design full of potential."
Layla, "Ok, ok. I get it, let's move on and get to actually why we came here. Driving."
Aerial, "Right, then let's see how you currently drive. That way I'll know what tips to give."
Layla, "Cool, let's go."
I let Layla take the wheel while I rode passenger, Aerial will follow us from behind.
We pulled out onto the track with Aerial close behind. Layla revved the engine and took off.
I don't know if she was actually driving much faster than I was yesterday but it felt like it. Though that could also be because of how off I was feeling today.
As Layla took one turn after another I felt like I was on a boat, sloshing from one side to the other.
I felt like I was getting sea sick on land, car sickness is probably the right term.
I didn't feel like I was going to be sick, I just felt dizzy, slow to react, and tired.
…
After a few laps Aerial passed us effortlessly and guided us off of the track into the bay area.
We alighted from the car and Layla started receiving tips from Aerial.
When the tips were coming to an end I spoke to Layla and told her, "Hey, Layla, I'm not feeling super good, so I'm going to sit this out for a while."
Layla asked in concern, "You're not feeling well? Then do we need to go home? I can pack up right now."
Me, "No, I'm just feeling a little tired. I'm going to get some food from the cafe and take a break. You have fun."
Layla, "Are you sure? If you are feeling bad we don't have to stay. I can always come back."
Me, "No, it's fine. It's like allergies or I didn't sleep well. I just feel drained, so I just need to take a breather. You have fun."
Layla, "Ok… If you're sure. Just let me know if it gets worse. Ok?"
Me, "Ok."
Layla made her way back over to Aerial and they exchanged phone numbers so that they could talk while they drove.
I watched as they pulled out and started driving.
Then I turned around and went inside to find some food. I got a light BLT and sparkling water.
I was hoping that the sandwich and carbonated water would help with the headache.
While eating I pulled out the AR glasses that I keep on me at almost all times and started watching some Metube.
Man I feel like I haven't watched this in a while, everything seemed so foreign and also uninteresting. I scrolled and scrolled, some people were playing video games, others were doing home renovations, some were reacting to car crash videos, and a very few were people talking about "super heroes".
I guess some more vigilantes showed up wearing flashy costumes calling themselves modern heroes.
I just don't really care what goobers are running around playing make believe.
I want to find something to take my mind off of reality for a while. I eventually settled for a video about one of my favorite games, CyberPuke77.
It was a new player playing through the game and doing a deep dive on the lore. Which I thought was pretty interesting.
…
A few hours later Layla and Aerial stopped for lunch while I was engrossed in the playthrough of this new player.
The way she described the futuristic dystopia and talked about the functionality, it made me think about how close to reality that could end up being.
But, more importantly, it made me realize what a good VR game it would be. I really want to make VR a reality, because legendary games could be made even better by the possibilities of VR.
I really need to get a check on how the progress for the RAM company set up is going. I know that there is a long check list for them to go through but I wish they would hurry up.
The sooner I can get the RAM company going the quicker I can start trying to get VR working.
But enough about that, I saw Layla and Aerial coming over with food in hand.
