Chapter 404 - Chapter 404: Why Is It Only Targeting You?

"What's going on?"

With one teleport, Nostradamus appeared beside Ethan.

Because the moment Ethan ran in the opposite direction, large and small spatial black lines appeared where he had originally been standing.

If Ethan hadn't run fast enough, he would probably have ended up with at least a dozen wounds on his body by now.

And those were still spatial black lines that hadn't fully opened yet. Once they fully unfolded, it wouldn't be as simple as getting cut open. He might even lose a body part directly.

"I suspect these spatial gates are being released by someone unconscious."

Ethan was currently running toward the dormitory area.

The attendants had already taken Nini back to rest. Ethan had to find her to confirm whether these spatial gates were really being released by her. And it seemed that even Nostradamus didn't have any especially good way to deal with these spatial gates.

"An unconscious person?", Nostradamus immediately denied it, "Impossible!"

"I've never seen an unconscious person open spatial gates!"

"Spatial gates require condensed mental power, along with enough intent and commands, before they can be opened."

"They aren't something you can open just because you want to."

"Move!"

Halfway through speaking, Nostradamus suddenly shoved Ethan.

The huge force sent Ethan crashing to the ground. He quickly looked toward Nostradamus and noticed that one of Nostradamus's stone arms had already been swallowed by an opened spatial black hole.

"Master!"

Ethan's pupils shrank.

If Nostradamus hadn't pushed him away just now, then the person who lost an arm would probably have been him.

'Holy shit!'

'I almost turned into Bucky.'

"I'm fine!", Nostradamus replied, "Go find whoever you're looking for! I'll do my best to block things here for you!"

Ethan then saw countless stones from the garden fly toward Nostradamus's arm. Soon, they gathered together and formed a new stone arm again.

Only then did he finally relax a little.

"Okay!"

Ethan continued rushing toward the dormitory area.

But this time he had learned to be smarter. Anytime he heard that "zzzzt" electric sound near his ears, he immediately changed direction and ran another way.

Sure enough, every time he changed direction, two or three black lines would appear either where he had originally been or where he was about to arrive, like invisible roadblocks.

"Disciple, why are these spatial gates only targeting you?"

Nostradamus had originally planned to help block things for Ethan for a while, but after standing there waiting for a long time, not a single spatial gate appeared around him.

Meanwhile, no matter where Ethan ran, countless spatial gates kept appearing beside him at any moment, ready to open at any time.

That left Nostradamus completely confused.

After all, with his disciple's current abilities, if he had truly offended a spatial mage, then before Ethan could even return to the territory, that mage could casually snap his fingers and kill countless versions of Ethan with ease.

But the spatial mage didn't do that. Instead, only after Ethan came back did the person deliberately keep using spatial magic like a cat toying with a mouse, forcing Ethan to run all over the place.

And although the spatial gates the mage opened each time weren't large, Nostradamus really wanted to ask one thing: Was this person's mental power an endless ocean?

Opening spatial gates this recklessly was absurd. It was like mental power cost nothing at all.

"I didn't offend her. I even saved her."

Ethan had now basically confirmed that Nini was the one releasing the spatial gates.

And Nini was very likely still unconscious, so she probably didn't even know what she was doing. But why was unconscious Nini constantly chasing Ethan around, and why was every target still his right hand.

"The pinky ring!"

Only then did Ethan lower his eyes to his injured upper right arm.

Although his arm had already become covered in blood because of the wound, the witch ring on his pinky finger didn't have a single drop of blood on it. Under the faint torchlight, it was even giving off a soft golden glow.

"I already searched the whole manor once, but I still found nothing," Genie Sylas had also returned, but he looked troubled as he said, "Old ghost, this time we may really have run into an expert."

"Not an expert. Just an unconscious little girl."

After Ethan figured out the reason, he finally stopped running.

Because, at that moment, he also understood why Nini kept opening spatial gates.

Even while unconscious.

"A little girl?", Sylas kept shaking his head, "Impossible. A spatial mage who hasn't reached the proper age couldn't possibly have enough mental power to open spatial gates endlessly."

"Wait, I'll take you there. You'll understand once you see!"

Ethan didn't argue with Sylas. The most urgent thing right now was solving the issue of Nini endlessly opening spatial gates first.

But when Nostradamus saw Ethan suddenly stop running, he immediately panicked and shouted, "Good disciple, hurry and run! Doesn't matter whether this spatial mage is a girl or a boy, right now she wants your life! Until you find her and kill her, you absolutely can't let your guard down!"

"It's fine. I already know what she wants."

Right then, that "zzzzt" electric sound rang beside Ethan's ears again.

But this time, Ethan didn't panic like before. Instead, he transferred Nana's corpse out from the pinky ring and placed it on the ground.

Sure enough!

The next second, the electric sound beside his ears disappeared.

And beneath Nana's corpse, a spatial gate appeared. It rapidly expanded until it became large enough to hold Nana's body before finally stopping.

The spatial gate kept enlarging and shrinking because it seemed unstable.

Eventually, it gradually stabilized, and soon afterward, Nana's corpse disappeared into the spatial gate.

"Such a huge spatial gate!", Sylas pointed at the massive spatial black hole on the ground and said, "And you're telling me this was made by a little girl? What kind of joke are you making?"

"I don't really believe it either," Nostradamus scratched his stone head and said, "But why does she want a corpse?"

"That's her older sister."

Ethan said, "Come on. Since neither of you believe it, I'll take you there to see for yourselves."

Originally, Ethan had still been hesitating over what skill to copy with that Skill Copy Scroll.

But after seeing the effect of the spatial gates Nini used, he no longer needed to hesitate. This skill was practically the ultimate long-distance killing weapon. If he didn't copy it, he'd be an idiot

And, he also had a Skill Book Copier.

Didn't that mean he could directly make a thousand copies of copy scrolls, then endlessly copy other people's skills?

And if he gave every citizen a skill-copying scroll wouldn't that mean he could have an entire territory full of spatial mages.
