Chapter 572 - Chapter 571: Treating the Symptoms but Not the Root Cause

"Uh…"

After hearing that, Ethan had an even bigger headache, "Master, I already know this monster is powerful. What I want to know now is whether there's a way to deal with it. I can't just stop sleeping, can I?"

"It's not like there's no way," Nostradamus thought for a moment, "When you sleep, Sylas and I can take turns watching you. If anything seems wrong, we'll force you awake."

"I don't think that's a good idea," Ethan immediately shook his head and rejected Nostradamus's suggestion.

"What, you're afraid someone will watch you sleep?", Nostradamus's expression stiffened, "Or are you doing something at night that you don't want people to see? If you have to finish something before you can sleep, I don't mind waiting until you're done. Then we'll come in and watch you sleep."

As Nostradamus spoke, he also rotated his stone eyeballs and looked toward Attendant Five, who was standing to the side.

Attendant Five immediately lowered her head until it was almost touching the ground after being looked at by Nostradamus, as if she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it.

After all… although Lord Ethan hadn't actually done anything like that, it was also a fact that the two of them had just done that sort of thing.

Attendant Five couldn't help wondering if Lord Ethan's master had somehow noticed something.

'Ah! How embarrassing.'

"Master, what are you talking about?"

Ethan hurriedly stopped everyone in the room from letting their imaginations run wild, "The reason I think that's a bad idea is because I feel like it would be too much trouble for you two and too exhausting."

"Besides, I can't be so selfish as to sacrifice both of your time just to watch me sleep, can I?"

"So you're worried about us," After hearing Ethan's explanation, Nostradamus looked satisfied, "I've already spent so many years passing the time anyway. Watching you sleep for a day or two doesn't matter to me."

"I don't mind either. You have food and drinks here, and the environment isn't bad," Genie Sylas drank some fruit wine while eating some jerky, snacks, and other food that Attendant Five had taken out of the kitchen's prepared supplies, "Let alone watching you sleep for a few days. I think watching you for a year or two would be fine too."

"With two masters caring about me this much, I'll remember it forever," Ethan hurriedly stood up and bowed to the two of them, "The reason I don't want you two to do this is actually because there are several other important reasons."

"The first is that I don't know when they'll attack me. Or rather, they can afford to wait, but I can't."

"I may be going to participate in the Demon Tree Climbing Competition in a couple of days."

"We don't know when that competition will end. What if I fall asleep inside the Demon Tree? What if they choose that moment to attack me?"

"There's another point. If I fall asleep tonight and you wake me up to pull me out of the dream…"

"Although I won't suffer too much damage, the enemy won't suffer any damage either."

"In other words…"

"As long as they have an opportunity, they can keep attacking me over and over."

"Then I'm afraid I won't even be able to get a full night's sleep from now on."

"Master, isn't this just treating the symptoms without treating the root cause?"

"Mm."

Nostradamus rubbed his stone head, which had grown some moss, "What you said does make some sense."

"But if you want to deal with this kind of mental attack monster, it's very difficult. You could even say it's a bit like torturing yourself."

"Holy crap, Nostradamus, don't tell me you're talking about…"

Genie Sylas's expression changed drastically.

Ethan looked at the two of them speaking in riddles and immediately became confused, "What exactly are you two talking about?"

"Don't."

Genie Sylas not only failed to explain it to Ethan, but instead looked at Nostradamus with a troubled expression, clearly not wanting Nostradamus to hand something over to Ethan.

After thinking for a moment, Nostradamus eventually shook his head, "I don't think we should make this decision for him. We should let him decide for himself."

"What decision?", Ethan looked at his two masters, who both seemed to want to say something but couldn't, and hurriedly asked again.

He hated this feeling of only knowing half the story, like someone was deliberately keeping him in suspense.

It was like getting stuck at a cliffhanger in a novel.

"It's like this."

Nostradamus pressed a hand against his chest. A large stone suddenly popped out. Nostradamus removed the stone that had popped out, then reached into his chest and took out a black scroll, placing it on the table, "Actually, there is a way to deal with monsters that specialize in mental attacks."

"But Sylas is worried that you might not be able to endure the torment caused by this strange technique and eventually go insane."

"That's why Sylas doesn't want me to take it out and give it to you."

"But I think this is something you should decide for yourself."

"I can only tell you the pros and cons."

"But the final choice is still in your hands. No matter what you choose, just don't blame me afterward."
