Nicky paused briefly before continuing.
He had worked with them a little by that point, so they told him. He wasn't untrustworthy anymore.
And that, he realized now, had been the beginning of the end.
That made sense.
The longer Nicky worked with them, the more they trusted him. It was basic logic—trust earned through time and consistency, through proving oneself reliable and discreet. The breeding house's handlers wouldn't waste time on someone they couldn't count on. Nicky had passed whatever tests they had set, had proven himself worthy of their confidence.
The realization was useful. It meant Nicky had been given access to information that newer recruits wouldn't have. It meant he could fill in gaps in their knowledge, provide details that would help them understand the full scope of the breeding house's operations.
