By the next morning, half the Academy whispered about me and two Alphas.
I hadn't given Gideon an answer yesterday. Had just pulled away and left the cafeteria without a word, my mind spinning with his proposal. Join him. Destroy Darius. The words had echoed in my head all night while my wolf paced restlessly, confused and upset.
But apparently, my silence didn't matter. The damage was already done.
The whispers started the moment I stepped into the main building. Students clustered in groups, heads bent together, voices dropping to hushed tones when I passed. But not quiet enough that I couldn't hear them.
"Did you see what happened yesterday?"
"Darius almost attacked Gideon right in the cafeteria."
"All because of her."
I kept walking, head up, refusing to show any reaction. My wolf was tense inside me, picking up on the hostility in some of the voices, the judgment.
