Lara's POV
I wake up wrapped in Austin's strong arms, and for the first time in years, I feel truly free. The crushing weight that has pressed down on my chest for so long has finally lifted. All those burdens I have carried alone seem lighter now.
Rolling over to face him, I trace my fingers through his dark hair. He leans down and brushes a soft kiss across my nose before his eyes flutter open.
"Good morning, beautiful."
"Good morning."
Buck starts purring quietly as Austin presses his lips to my forehead. "How do you feel this morning?"
"Good. Different."
His brow furrows as he studies my face. "Different how?"
"You make me feel valued in ways I have never experienced before. Like someone actually loves me and wants to protect me."
His arms tighten around me, pulling me closer against his chest. "Taking care of you makes me happy. That is what mates are supposed to do for each other."
He closes his eyes again, holding me in comfortable silence.
