Chapter 81 - Chapter 81 Yu Xiaogang Wants to Take a Disciple

Chapter 81 Yu Xiaogang Wants to Take a Disciple

How could Yu Xiaogang not be excited?

The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda was a flawed martial soul—similar in nature to his own Luo Sanpao.

Both had fatal shortcomings. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda could never advance to a Title Douluo, and Yu Xiaogang himself had been stuck at level 29 for years.

If not for that night…

He couldn't help recalling the mysterious existence he had encountered then. Just thinking of it made his heart tremble slightly.

Though he had broken through thanks to the ritual, that being was too enigmatic, too unfathomable.

"Xiaogang, about Ning Rongrong's martial soul—remember, that's a secret of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. Her father, Ning Fengzhi, is the Sect Master himself," Flender said sternly.

"I know your martial soul problem has trapped you at level 29, but the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan isn't something we can provoke. Don't do anything you'll regret."

Yu Xiaogang came back to his senses. Seeing Flender's serious face slowly cooled his excitement.

"Of course, I understand." He nodded, then smirked slightly. "Flender, I need to correct you on one thing."

"I'm no longer level 29." Yu Xiaogang's lips curved as he released his soul power.

Flender froze, his eyes going wide. "You broke through?"

"Of course."

"You found a way to fix your martial soul's flaw?" Flender grabbed his friend's shoulders in shock.

"Of course," Yu Xiaogang answered, though a guilty flicker crossed his eyes.

"Xiaogang! Truly worthy of the title 'Master'! Those fools who said you copied others' theories—they must be blind!" Flender said enthusiastically.

"You even broke past your martial soul's limits. How could anyone doubt your genius?"

Yu Xiaogang felt a pang of guilt but said nothing. His thoughts drifted to the Blood Demon Ritual stored inside his soul tool.

Though it required flesh and blood from something that had died within twenty-four hours, soul beasts worked just as well.

Couldn't he perhaps reframe the Blood Demon Ritual as a new theory to publish?

The idea burned hot within him again.

After all, humans and soul beasts were natural enemies. They hunted soul beasts for rings—using their corpses afterward wasn't unreasonable, right?

"Dean, I've gathered all the students at the training field," Zhao Wuji's voice came from outside.

"Let's go take a look, Xiaogang," Flender said, standing.

Yu Xiaogang didn't refuse. It had been a while since he'd last seen Tang San.

The two walked out of the office together.

Soon, they arrived at the training ground.

Luo Ling and the students were already assembled.

Flender stepped forward and addressed them seriously:

"All right, everyone's here. I've got a few announcements to make."

"Today, I'll be introducing a new teacher." He gestured toward Yu Xiaogang.

"This is Teacher Yu Xiaogang—or better known by another name. The entire soul master world knows him as the Master."

"Heh."

A laugh echoed across the field, completely out of place.

Flender's face darkened instantly as he turned toward the source.

Not far away, under a tree—

Luo Ling sat casually in a chair, a table beside him piled with snacks and fruit.

The sight gave Flender a headache.

Luo Ling wasn't a student, and with a Title Douluo protecting him, Flender didn't dare scold him.

He pretended not to see anything and tried to ignore it.

But Yu Xiaogang noticed and frowned as he looked at the laid‑back youth under the tree.

"Flender, who is that? A student of the academy?"

Flender's mouth twitched. He had hoped to avoid the topic, but now he couldn't.

"That's Luo Ling, Rongrong's cousin. According to Sect Master Ning's wishes, he's here to study alongside her and act as her guardian."

"Guardian? At his age?" Yu Xiaogang blinked.

"He's thirteen this year—and already a forty‑sixth‑level Soul Ancestor." Flender's expression turned complicated. Such monstrous talent, yet not his student—it was a tragic waste.

But while Flender sighed, Yu Xiaogang's eyes went wide in disbelief.

"Flender… did I hear that right? Thirteen? Level forty‑six?"

"When have I ever lied to you?" Flender replied with a shake of his head. "His strength is undeniable. He even managed to injure Zhao Wuji."

Yu Xiaogang was stunned. A thirteen‑year‑old Soul Ancestor—unthinkable!

He had thought Tang San was already an unmatched genius. But this? What kind of monster was this boy?

"What's his martial soul?"

"It seems to be a weapon-type martial soul—a scythe called the Scythe of Shadows," Flender recalled.

"You didn't enroll him in the academy?" Yu Xiaogang pressed.

Flender sighed helplessly. "Of course I wanted to, but he refused."

Yu Xiaogang said nothing, his eyes burning as he fixed his gaze on Luo Ling.

Tang San was already a prodigy. If he could also take in someone like Luo Ling, who would dare to look down on Yu Xiaogang again?

With that thought, a confident smile appeared on his face as he strode toward Luo Ling.

"So you're Luo Ling?" Yu Xiaogang said loftily, looking down at him.

"What do you want?" Luo Ling frowned, holding back the urge to swat the man into dust.

"You have great talent. Would you like to become my disciple?" Yu Xiaogang's tone was calm—patronizing, even—as though he were granting a favor.

Luo Ling froze. Tang San froze. Everyone around froze.

Was this man out of his mind?

Luo Ling's expression turned strange. Had that ritual addled his brain?

He shook his head slightly and looked at Yu Xiaogang with open disdain. "Become your student? You—just a Soul Elder?"

"At your age, only level thirty? How do you even have the face to say that aloud?"

Luo Ling mocked him mercilessly, and Yu Xiaogang's arrogant expression instantly stiffened.

But he didn't grow angry, assuming Luo Ling simply didn't know who he was.

Taking a deep breath, Yu Xiaogang forced a calm smile. "Child, a teacher's worth isn't only about power. Do you know who I am?"

"I'm quite famous in the soul master world. They call me the Master. I'm the one who published the Ten Core Theories of Martial Souls."

His face shone with pride. But Luo Ling's next words made it darken immediately.

"The Master? The Ten Core Theories?" Luo Ling pretended to think, then snapped his fingers as though recalling something. "Oh, you're that 'Master' who took other people's research and claimed it as your own."

"I've heard of you. Weren't you in Nuoding City before? It's been years since you've taken a student—and the last one was only because he had innate full soul power."

Luo Ling's cold voice sent Yu Xiaogang's face completely black with anger.
