Chapter 138: Why Not Join the Xiao Clan as a Guard Dog?
Hearing the serpent's explanation, even Xiao Yan couldn't help but show a slight reaction.
"If these Seven Colored Scales can be gathered to unlock the Seven Colored Demon Saint's legacy…"
This was no ordinary inheritance this was a legacy of a five star Dou Saint.
For Xiao Yan, before he became the Xiao Clan's chosen heir, even hearing about such an inheritance would have made him envious. A powerhouse of this level wasn't just a core figure in the Xiao Clan but a pinnacle existence on the Dou Qi continent.
Even now, as the Xiao Clan's Imperial Son, Xiao Yan was tempted by the idea of acquiring such a legacy. His current strength and rank didn't yet grant him access to many resources or treasures that rivaled what a five star Dou Saint could leave behind.
More importantly, the Seven Colored Demon Saint's inheritance might hold secrets or tools useful for Xiao Yan's next plans especially his intended visit to the Tagor Desert. After all, nurturing a certain "snake wife" was part of his long term strategy.
For the sake of his yet to meet wife and their possible future offspring, Xiao Yan's interest in the Seven Colored Demon Saint's legacy grew stronger.
The spectral figure of the Netherworld Demon Snake, noticing Xiao Yan's contemplative state, adopted an ingratiating smile.
"Imperial Son, rumor has it that the Seven Colored Demon Saint's inheritance also includes a Heavenly Flame."
This revelation made Xiao Yan's gaze sharpen instantly.
"What kind of Heavenly Flame?"
"Based on what my grandfather said, it should be the Ten Thousand Beast Spirit Flame," the snake replied, sensing Xiao Yan's heightened interest.
"The Ten Thousand Beast Spirit Flame?" Xiao Yan narrowed his eyes slightly.
While not among the top ranked Heavenly Flames, having any Heavenly Flame was always better than not. Each one had its uses, especially for someone like Xiao Yan, whose techniques revolved around mastering and combining these flames.
"Yes, Imperial Son," the snake confirmed, sensing Xiao Yan's interest and capitalizing on it.
"The Ten Thousand Beast Spirit Flame forms from the fusion of a nine star magical beast's natal fire, multiple eight star beast flames, and over ten thousand intermediate to high level magical beast flames.
"During the Seven Colored Demon Saint's era, the Southwestern Continent teemed with high tier magical beasts. Even eight star beasts were abundant. The Demon Saint reigned supreme over all of them, gathering flames from countless beasts to create the Ten Thousand Beast Spirit Flame."
Intrigued, Xiao Yan raised an eyebrow. "And what happened after?"
The serpent hesitated before continuing. "Legend has it that the Demon Saint encountered a terrifying enemy. Their battle nearly tore the Magic Beast Mountain Range apart, resulting in the death of many high level beasts. The mountain range never recovered and fell into decline. My grandfather said that after that battle, the Seven Colored Demon Saint perished, and the inheritance was scattered across the land."
Hearing this, Xiao Yan furrowed his brows. "So you only have two of the Seven Colored Scales. What about the other five?"
"I only know the location of two more," the Netherworld Demon Snake replied with a hint of bitterness.
"The current 'Beast Sovereign' of the Magic Beast Mountain Range holds two of them."
"Beast Sovereign?" Xiao Yan's brows arched.
"Indeed. After the ancient battle, the Magic Beast Mountain Range was left with only a few surviving eight star magical beasts. Over time, a new eight star beast rose to dominance a Phantom Lightning Purple Hawk and became the current Beast Sovereign.
"The Beast Sovereign covets the Seven Colored Demon Saint's legacy, hoping to use it to ascend to the Dou Saint realm."
The serpent's eyes glimmered with resentment.
"I fought the Beast Sovereign in an attempt to claim the inheritance but was gravely wounded. Surrounded by its minions, I was forced to seal off this area and sacrifice my physical body to survive."
Pausing, the snake then said slyly, "Imperial Son, the Beast Sovereign would make an excellent steed or a valuable source of resources if you were to claim its magic core for alchemy. Plus, it holds two of the Seven Colored Scales."
Xiao Yan shot a cold glance at the snake. "Leave that to me. You don't need to concern yourself with such matters."
"Yes, Imperial Son," the snake quickly lowered its head, no longer daring to overstep.
Xiao Yan pondered further. "But that still leaves three Scales unaccounted for. How do we find them?"
"Imperial Son, the Scales attract one another." The Netherworld Demon Snake demonstrated, using a wisp of soul energy to manipulate the two Seven Colored Scales.
The Scales floated mid air, gently rotating toward each other.
"The more Scales you gather, the stronger their mutual pull becomes. Once five Scales are united, you can sense the locations of others within a hundred miles. With six, you can detect Scales within a thousand miles. And with all seven, the inheritance space of the Seven Colored Demon Saint will automatically reveal itself."
Hearing this, Xiao Yan nodded thoughtfully. "That simplifies things. Anything else?"
"No, Imperial Son. I've told you everything I know," the serpent said with utter obedience, its earlier arrogance long gone.
"Well done. Although you were disrespectful earlier, I'll spare you for providing valuable information."
"Thank you, Imperial Son! Your generosity knows no bounds. Truly, you are destined for the Dou Di throne!" the snake gushed, bowing repeatedly.
Xiao Yan smirked at its groveling. "You're quite good at flattery. Perhaps being part of the Netherworld Demon Snake clan limits your potential. How about joining the Xiao Clan as a guardian beast?"
The snake's soul quivered with excitement. "It would be my honor! Serving the Xiao Clan is the greatest privilege I could ask for!"
"Good. That's settled, then," Xiao Yan said, clearly satisfied. He motioned for Elder Wu, who promptly stowed the snake's soul and the entire blood pool into a storage item.
Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Xiao Yan couldn't help but chuckle.
"All I planned was to flirt with Xiao Yi Xian. Who would've thought I'd stumble upon such treasures and a lead on the Seven Colored Demon Saint's inheritance?"
After finding a secluded cave to train in, Xiao Yan sat down, his mind turning toward the Beast Sovereign.
"A mere eight star magical beast? It better know its place."
As he strategized, Xiao Yan caught sight of smoke rising from the small hut where Xiao Yi Xian was staying.
