~~~~~Author here, this chapter is a bit gruesome I wanted to set a foundation of what time of person the mc will be. Let me know what you thought of the chapter, I dont plan on making many dark scenes but there will be some in the future and id just like to know how I did or how I could improve. **Chapter Two: A New Horizon**
As I hovered above Kuoh Town, the soft glow of the moonlight reflected across my armor coupled with the slowly fading green glow and my white wings created a heavenly like image. The stunning view of the sleeping town spread out beneath me filled me with a sense of excitement and resolve. Resolve to make to most of this new life and to not squander it under the guise of conforming to the society around me. "From this moment on I shall be free." My heart raced at my silent resolve as I took in this town's lights, observing my new home while relishing in the peace, the quiet, and the calm that the sight below me brought.
However, this calm moment was fleeting as a weight settled on my shoulders. I closed my eyes for a brief moment, centering myself. As I was forced to feel so many emotions, a side effect of the Newtype abilities that I wished for. I steadied my senses and slowly filtered through the area for in an attempt to bring myself under control. As I came under control I felt the emotional fluctuations of the people below, their joys and fears brought about by dreams and nightmares one at a time instead of the mess it was before.
Just then, an alert flashed across my HUD, interrupting my makeshift meditation session. A notification appeared across my screen which indicated a sudden spike of energy originating just three blocks away. Excitement flared throughout my body compelling me to investigate and potentially test the Zero's strength. I reactivated my thrusters and pushed them to the max, feeling the suit's entire frame respond to my will I launched myself towards the source of the disturbance. The serene weightlessness I had felt moments ago now transformed into a thrill of anticipation as I streaked through the night's sky.
As I approached, I realized the energy emanated from a old abandoned warehouse. As I neared the scene, I felt an unsettling chill run down my spine, the emotional emotions that I could feel were now saturated in fear and violence. A flash ran through my mind, not a though but rather a feeling that something was terribly wrong and that there was some form of danger.
Acknowledging that feeling I pushed forward as I prepared to make my entrance. With precision, I decreased my speed while maneuvering the Zero above the warehouse with caution as I prepared for my entry and with a steady stream of power from my thrusters I started my descent through a sizable hole within the roof.
As I descended into the warehouse below, I activated the suit's night vision causing my eyes glow lightly and below me I saw the source of my uneasiness. A stray devil exuding emotions and thoughts foul enough to make me sick, and below it laid it's untimely victim now turned meal.
"Who… a angel?!" the stray devil exclaimed, momentarily distracted from it's meal, its voice a mixture of hate and annoyance.
The sight below sent a jolt of revulsion through me. A human, innocent and unsuspecting, had just fallen prey to this stray devil mere moments ago. My heart raced at the realization that this world, one that I had always believed was fiction was now real with real consequences. And with this truth so openly brought to me the veil that convinced my that this was just a story world was lifted.
I spoke out loud, disgust and fury echoing within my voice as I spoke out to the devil. "I am going to kill you, filth like you shouldn't be given the chance to exist." I coldly declared, as my words cut through the blood scented air.
The devil sneered, unimpressed. "A single two winged angel thinks he can stop me? I could slaughter you with ease," it taunted, unaware of the strength of the man standing before it.
In response to it's word's, I reached behind my back then pulled out and activated one of my beam sabers, the dazzling light illuminating the horrific scene surrounding us. "You will die in ignorance never to be remembered." I stated with finality in my voice.
The stray devil hesitated for a moment, analyzing the supposed angle in front of it. The sight of my my armor coupled with what it thought was a green tinted light sword seemed to slightly shake its confidence.
"You think you can fight me?" the stray bellowed, reassuring it's self of his own strength. "I shall kill you and savor your flesh and blood!"
The stray devil lunged towards me, intent on ending this fight and devouring me. But I was ready, countless possibility's filled my mind as I faced the devil approaching towards me and after choosing my path I brought my saber to a ready position and maneuvered myself with precision possible only due to the zero system's precognition that's within the suit. Readying myself I unleashed a counter attack towards the devil. The energy blade cut through the air, creating a brilliant arc that separated the stray from his legs.
He howled in rage and and pain, taken aback by the accuracy and strength of my strike. With the realization on what happened, the devil now on his chest laying down screaming in pain, sprouted his wings in an attempt to escape, however due to the zero system I foresaw his actions and swiftly moved in, severing his wings from his back without mercy.
"Does it hurt? do you feel the fear and despair as I hold your pathetic life within my hands? How does it feel to be the ant? The prey?" I growled out, my voice steady though laced with my anger. The stray devil still screaming in agonizing pain failed to respond.
The stray's anguish was palpable. It had not expected to face such a life or death situation from such a weak two winged angle. Frustration, pain, and hatred boiled over into a hasty decision as he eventually roared in defiance.
"You will regret this! I will kill you!" He bellowed, rolling to his back while summoning dark energy to his hands lashing out with reckless abandon.
Remaining calm, I let the energy wash over me taking the risk that it wont cause my armor any harm. I advanced forward through the energy as I let the zero system obtain more data of the magic from this world. Moving with a fluid grace, I arrived in front of the devils fallen form.
I knelt to one knee, beam saber in one hand as I griped the top of his head within the other. "Your life is mine," I declared, leveling the blade to his face.
Realizing his impending death, he roared out in fury, in defiance while flailing in desperation. Without mercy, I advanced the saber forward with precision as the beam saber pierced his face with absolute lethality. The devil reeled back, its dark aura faltering as it it's life was extinguished.
I stood up and de-powered my blade while returning it to its holster all while observed the scene surrounding me, as the quietness of the night returned, a stark contrast to the chaotic noise that was just moments prior. I saw the half eaten human lay still on the ground, a life taken too soon by an encounter from a world hidden from most.
Taking a moment to compose myself, I slowly rose and walked over the victim, I offered a silent prayer for their departed soul. Though I couldn't save this life, I could honor it with the death their killer. After a moment of silence I turned away and with a boost from my thrusters I ascended through the whole I exited the warehouse from the hole I originally entered from.
As the night continued on, I coasted through the sky as the physical and psychological strain exhausted me. With such a intense entrance to this world I eventually landed in an empty park. On the ground my armor retracted back within me as I collapsed onto a nearby bench. Grateful that it wasn't in the winter I closed my eyes and let sleep claim me.
