The streets of the Harlem district were completely empty at this moment.
Only cameras hidden in the shadows occasionally emitted a few blinding flashes of white light.
The gray-skinned, ferocious-looking giant let out an angry roar, and if you listened closely, you could even make out a hint of panic in it.
Dozens of media reporters hiding in the corners captured a scene they would never forget for the rest of their lives.
A massive, oddly shaped fusion of metal smashed down from the sky toward the culprit that had reduced this street to chaos, Abomination.
Under the overwhelming force of Corin's magnetic control, more than a dozen cars were kneaded into a gigantic club, none end large, the other small, extremely irregular in shape.
With the momentum of a mountain pressing down, it crashed toward Abomination.
"That'll teach you to throw trash around!"
As Corin's arm came crashing down, the enormous metal tower suddenly accelerated, engulfing Abomination's fleeing figure.
BOOM!
The ground shook violently. Civilians hiding in their homes hugged one another, trembling as they prayed for God's forgiveness.
"Did the military use missiles?"
People who had no idea what was going on wildly guessed at the cause of the quake.
The dust slowly settled.
On the wide road, a huge, ugly, unidentified object was deeply embedded in the ground, with only a small portion exposed.
If you looked closely, you could tell it was pieced together from various cars that had been compressed and deformed.
It was Corin's first time controlling so much metal, and it showed. The handling was extremely rough.
The chaotic street had now returned to silence.
Watching from afar, the aide saw that there was no longer any movement in the battle and tossed a walkie-talkie toward Corin.
"Cockroach, oh my God, you should've said earlier you were Mr. Silver Duke!"
General Ross's annoyed voice came through the radio.
"Nick Fury didn't tell you?"
Realizing that General Ross had not known his identity from the start, Corin secretly gave Nick Fury a thumbs-up.
"Brother Egghead, not bad. You're alright."
It was as if something painful had been brought up. General Ross muttered a couple of words that Corin could not hear clearly.
"I really wish he had told me from the beginning."
Then he asked about the battle.
"So? Is it settled?"
Corin did not know how effective this hastily cobbled-together big move really was. He did not answer the general's question and instead reached toward the metal amalgam on the ground.
As his ability activated, the massive iron block firmly embedded in the earth began to tremble and slowly rise, revealing what lay beneath.
Sewage pipes and communication cables were shattered to pieces by the giant object. Water sprayed everywhere, sparks flew everywhere.
After searching for a moment, Corin finally saw Abomination.
It was… pretty miserable.
At this time, Abomination's massive body was firmly wedged underground in an irregular shape. The bone spurs behind his elbows had even pierced into his own body.
People usually called this state, getting wrecked.
Looking at his face, his unfocused eyes were still struggling to stay open, but his gaping mouth and the white foam at the corners of his lips took away a lot of his former ferocity.
At the general's command, soldiers stepped forward to confirm the target's condition.
"Reporting to the general, the target is not dead and has temporarily fallen unconscious!"
The soldier shouted the report, and this result finally put General Ross's mind at ease.
The surrounding media reporters swarmed in like flies drawn to carrion, buzzing as they rushed over.
Cameras of all kinds flashed back and forth between General Ross and Corin, mostly focused on Corin.
After all, people had not seen Mr. Silver Duke appear in the public eye for a long time.
Naturally, they wanted to ask Corin one question, where is your crimson suit?
Someone actually shouted the question at Corin, and not just one person.
Corin looked at the army training uniform he was wearing, provided by the military and bearing no markings, and shook his head.
If you take the military's job, of course you use the military's skin. That's basic respect.
As for Corin's outfit, General Ross had done it on purpose.
He wanted everyone to know that even if there had been some minor hiccups in carrying out the plan,
in the end, it was still the military's people who solved the problem.
"That's right, Mr. Silver Duke is a specially hired consultant of our military," General Ross accepted the media's interview with a completely official expression.
But after just a couple of short sentences, he waved his hand and had the orderlies disperse the media, citing battlefield cleanup as the reason.
What a joke. If they were going to film, they should at least wait until this area was cleaned up a bit.
With things this messy, people higher up might think the military was incredibly incompetent.
That was what General Ross thought.
Beside him, Corin clearly had not expected the deeply calculating General Ross to quietly pull him into the military's camp. It made him feel a bit annoyed.
"Well played, you old fox."
He whispered into General Ross's ear.
"General, helping the military take interviews… that's a different price."
How could Ross not understand that his move had essentially given Silver Duke a military background? Ever since witnessing Corin's overwhelming strength, General Ross had set his sights on him.
'I must firmly grasp Cockroach in my hands!'
Hearing Corin's words, the general readily agreed.
"No problem, Mr. Silver Duke."
Seeing Ross agree so readily to pay, a thought stirred in Corin's mind.
'If this old guy is being this generous, then I must be getting shortchanged somewhere again.'
'These damn politicians. Their hearts are filthy. Better stay far away from them in the future.'
———
When the soldiers, faces stern, drove away the media reporters and onlookers, then turned back to look at Corin, their serious expressions instantly turned into deep admiration.
At General Ross's "request," Corin reprocessed the huge thing that had knocked Abomination unconscious. Otherwise, the military would have had no way to deal with something that big.
Clang! Clang!
Under Corin's control, the massive iron tower in the air disintegrated, turning into one-meter-square chunks of iron that fell to the ground, arranged into a rectangular formation.
Patting his hands and looking at the astonished expression on General Ross's face, Corin smiled slightly.
"General, taking down Abomination is three hundred million. Interviews and cleanup are two hundred million. Thanks for watching."
With that, his figure turned into a streak of light and vanished from everyone's sight.
General Ross, who had been marveling at Corin's unfathomable abilities just a second ago, felt his head buzz the moment he heard Corin's words.
'The interviews and cleanup that you solved with just a wave of your hand, cost two hundred million dollars?'
'Do I really look that much like a sucker?'
Ross did not know that this was Corin's small act of revenge for being dragged into the military camp without his permission.
———
"Yahoo~"
Feeling the wind whistling past his ears, Corin shouted happily.
He finally no longer had to struggle and throw flying knives just to achieve flight.
Earlier, during the cleanup, Corin had quietly picked out a piece of metal with good texture and appearance from countless metal fragments and kept it in his hand.
His sudden flight away was also achieved by controlling this piece of metal to fly.
When he had time, he could practice with this piece of iron, knead it into something like a glove, and then he would be able to come and go freely in the sky.
———
Leaving aside Corin returning to his residence to seriously practice how to control metal.
Tony Stark finally finished assembling the particle accelerator.
Holding a level, he carried out the final inspection.
Phil Coulson's gaze was drawn to a strange object, and he quickly recognized it.
It was a circular piece of metal, with half of a white five-pointed star in the center.
'This thing is just casually tossed here?'
"How did this thing end up here?", Tony stared at the object in Agent Phil's hand, his gaze lingering for a moment.
"That's it! Hand it to me!"
Looking at Tony's reaction, Agent Phil asked uncertainly, "You know what this is?"
He lifted his foot slightly and gently handed the object to Tony.
"This is what I need to succeed."
Tony had Agent Phil lift the coil, while he placed the disk in his hand beneath it.
He took the level and measured it.
'Perfectly leveled!'
[T/N: For those who don't know that's a prototype of Captain America's shield.]
